I drove these big 1980's Benzes when I did valet parking. They were built as solid as a tank! This was a car from a bygone era when Mercedes put function and quality over gimmicks.

I crashed one of these new at 140mph on the highway. A semi truck pulled out in front of us. It was the same year and I was 17. All 4 tires were off the wheels and the engine was still running. Not a scratch on us.

Agree. I had a 380 SE (but a little older (about 1985/86 model, the one with the stripes in the plastic parts at the bottom of the doors), and whilst perhaps a little low on power with the 3.8 it still did 190 kp/h here in Germany, and indeed it felt like you were driving a tough lump of rubber, just stiff and tight all over. NOTHING made a noise, no creaking plastic or anything. Astonishing. It was my company car at the time!!!!!! Heavy, tough and yet still fairly agile. Great times.

I had a 280SE years ago with a four speed standard and mechanical fuel injection on the model 110 engine, straight six shocks, dual exhaust. Great solid car.

THESE TRULY WERE THE BEST CARS EVER MADE. THE 560 SEC PUT EVERYTHING TO SHAME IN THOSE DAYS. EARLIER ON THE 280CE AND CD WERE AS WELL MADE. AND THE LAST OF THE BEST WAS THE 1999 CL600. ISTILL HAVE ALL OF MINE FROM THIS ERA AND THEY ARE IN MINT CONDITION..THEIR BETTER THAN THE CARS THEY BUILD TODAY.....

I have this i love it its my daily driver its very Beautiful and dependable starts every time

the car lot the cars, totally. It is the classic I'd have. Always wanted.

My favorite part always is when HaLEYton get out of the car, walk toward the camera, put their hands on hips and proclaim 2 is better than 1...the sight of these drop-dead gorgeous BEAUTIES knocks me over every time! And their automotive knowledge continues to grow!

OMG, WIH PROPER MAINTENANCE EXPECT THE CAR TO BE DRIVEN UP TO 300,000 MILES. I AM SOO IN LOVE WITH THAT CAR...I WAS IN GERMANY AROUND WHEN THIS CAR WAS MADE AND THEY ARE OVERBUILD AND MADE TO CRUISE DOWN THE AUTOBAHN HIGHWAY FOR HOURS AT HIGH SPEEDS OVER 80... WHILE AMERICAN CARS THAT WERE BROUGHT DOWN THERE WOULD OVERHEAT OR BREAK DOWN. AMERICAN CARS WEREN'T MADE TO BE DRIVEN OVER 80 MILES PER HR for LONG PERIOD OF TIME. FOR LONG DISTANT DRIVING THE GAS MILEAGE IS AVERAGE BUT FOR AROUND THE TOWN, YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE AT THE GAS PUMP.

I've had over 20 cars and a vw bus back in the day including the porsche 944 I've seen alot for great experience..my next future car is a 2021-23 BMW M3 CS

There is Two cars I like most, older, better built cars, MB 560SEL and RR Silver Spur III and IV. Nothing like it ever since.

Pretty sure those “door vents.” Are actually part of the vacuum system that control the door locks. Should be able to control all of the locks simply by pulling up or pushing down the lock on the driver’s door… 🇺🇸🇺🇸🤙🤙 Great video and impressive knowledge of the vehicle in general.

Little correction, the Mercedes W126 V8 have a all been automatic, only the V6 (S260-320) have been available as manual, and they have not been sold officially in the US, only some private imports made it to the US. The W126, 560 SE/SEL was also available with pneumatic/air suspension, but this car does it despite it´s good equipment not have.

260, 280, 300 were not V6 but straight line. The W 126 did not come as S320. That was later model W140. In 2010 they started a new line of V6 engines, but in 2016 they went back to the line 6 again. This is because the 6 line could be produced same way as the 4 cilinders, while the V6 was more akin to the v8, that were fased out more and more because of downsizing.

@@paulmetdebbie447 You are right, it was no W126 S320 it was the S420 with the small V8 (successor of the S380). The V6 M 112 motor came in the 1990´s but only made it into the E class.

The W126 otherwise known as the tank. Nice example of a beautiful survivor. The car is older than Haley and Layton. lol

Actually the "tank" is the W140. However, the W126 is a very strong car, it saved my life 15 years ago. 70mph crash, never touched the brakes. The airbag worked perfectly and all the doors could open and close like nothing happened. Personally, I prefer driving the W126 more than the 140 and certainly far better than the W220.

SEL stands for superb elegant luxurious

I have a 1983 Mercedes 240d sometimes as a daily driver boy I have heads turns including the Manager at the Ferrari Dealership taking a cigarette break and its garage kept as a holy grail as a gift 🎁 from my co worker. I used to have a 1988 260 E Class it was my dad's great value let's be honest in my state some people don't know how to drive I'd survived a crashed for a higher value its not about the money its the car I missed for safety so the replacement is currently as a first Legendary before the e class is the Mercedes 240D Diesel.. as a 1983 early 80s model I don't see much in these days...

Hayley these w126 were the last hand built merc before mass production with robots

A five speed manual gearbox never was a standard for the 560. For a 280 or a 380 there was the standard for a manual transmission, but never for the 500 or 560.

It's a awesome look car can you please do the Volkswagen Passat if you can I really like your videos a lot

The problem with all LHD cars offered on the internet, is that for us in Australia, we have to have them meet Australian design rules! OK, I know that it is absurd especially when dealing with Quality cars like a Benz or other european cars. That means that they will also have to be converted to RHD.

I wish I had someone like this, I wish I had a wife like this, but there is a lot of poverty in our country

the 560 is a legend but I prefer 500 engine is much stable and compression is lower, body is lighter fuel efficiency is better, 560 all fame that ( mid 80's) time it could hit 250 km easily and due higher weight it feel like a train on highway.

My middle school science teacher had a black turbo diesel like this. Her husband then bought her a little W203 C320 and she hated it. That husband later cheated on her and she divorced him.
