A heartfelt reaction from our beautiful Cynthia. Another classic song from Bread. RNB

As usual, "Bread" delivers a stunningly beautiful (though melancholy) song. There may however, be something 'karmic' in what He discovered upon those pages when he opened the book. A person's diary is generally considered to be off limits to anyone, including (and probably especially) one's companion. Diaries are the last refuge for a person's secrets.Their innermost thoughts and dreams and even fears. The span of a diary can chronicle many years, reaching back to adolescence through adulthood, marriage, parenthood and beyond. The thoughts written in them would be fleeting as such, but valuable because they occurred in "real time". The mind can't dwell in real time, but the memories are preserved in the book. He clearly found out things she didn't want him to know. Knowledge of the existence of one's diary should not lead to the opening of it. It is an intrusion upon what should have been a sacred trust between them. A lingering question for me is, did he get it back to her? Hope so.Thanks for the reaction, Ambrose Cynthia. Truly food for thought (no pun intended).🙂

Cynthia, she was not his wife. Not his wife. He mis-interpreted what she had written in her diary. He loved her, and he hoped she would marry him. But it was not him she loved, and now he knows the truth. When he said "her my wife" he was dreaming about the future. "As I go through my life, I will give to her my wife". But then he realized it is not him that she wrote about in her diary. And he loves her enough to wish her happiness in her future with the man she loves.

Hi my dear... I just came home from late shift work and the first thing I see, is this video... and yes, you were absolutely right with everything you said about this beautiful song. And believe me, I can somehow relate to the lyrics ! Although I was in love with a woman for many, many years, I also knew that she never loved me... but I never gave up on her and hoped she will change her mind someday... but she didn't... 😞 Anyway, the song is really beautiful, although quite sad, as you said. But I know songs that ae even sadder than this one, and even more beautiful ! Aurora has many sad songs which are also heavenly beautiful. Maybe you could go back to Aurora and react to another song from her. I would suggest "Little boy in the grass (Live at Nidarosdomen)", a song with a really (and I mean REEEEEEEALLY) sad story behind it. On July 22, 2011 (yes, on your birthday, coincidentally) there was the so-called "Utoya massacre" in Norway, when a guy called Breivik shot 77 people - mostly children and young adults . randomly out of xenophobia. And that "little boy in the grass" that Aurora is singing about, and whom she was very close friends with, was one of those victims. And when you read the lyrics (which I would highly recommend to look up !), with this background information, you will find out the real depth of these lines. So please do me (and all your other subscribers) a favour and react to ; Aurora - Little boy in the grass (Live at Nidarosdomen). Hugs and kisses from your dear friend Gerry

She was never the singer's wife. He was hoping that she would be one day. But the words in her diary were not about him, but someone who she hoped to be in love with one day. He said " I will wish for her, his wife" assuming that she would be married to her true love one day, the one she wrote about in her diary.

the sudden twist is shocking, but you have to examine it again more closely: the singer is not married at the moment to the girl, he is *crushing on her* and happens to read her diary, presuming her intimate loving thoughts are about him, then he is shocked to discover the girl loves another. So he gives way and backs off sadly but respectfully.

Yes, she does. That is why she wrote the second diary entry, leaving the diary at the same place, under the tree, for him to find, and learn the sad truth.
