Great review! I'm working on upgrading my 25+ year old cooking gear (MSR Rapidfire - essentially a Whisperlite with an isobutane burner instead of white gas) to something a little lighter. I really like the Pocket Rocket Deluxe, and I already use the same Fold-A-Cup that you do. I'm going to take a look at using the Toaks 115mm diameter 1100ml pot (SKU: POT-1100) instead of the 750 to fit the cup and the Pocket Rocket Deluxe. This pot is the same height as the 750, but about .75" bigger in diameter. It weighs 1.2 oz more, but I can live with that. We'll see how it goes!

That foldable cup in a Toaks 750 just made me order this setup. Thanks for researching and sharing.

Love it. I take a microfiber cloth and wrap it around the fuel canister to keep it from rattling and help with cleanup. (Less than a $) I swapped out the stove for a BRS Titanium stove which saves about an ounce and saves about $3O.

Snow peak stoves aren't built by slaves. I'd spend the extra dough on Japanese Ti and a Korean stove. Karma's a bitch, don't tease her.

I bought the field and stream solo cook kit. It was 14.99 and its aluminum the top doubles as a cup and it has rubber coated handles. It seems pretty decent cant wait to test it out.

old video but if youre still using this kit the sea to summit xmug fits on as a lid. means you can get rid of the lid and the mug you have and have 1 less thing and less weight.

I used the shorter wider toaks 850ml mug on the JMT a few years ago after trying this 750 out at home and spilled a lot less food while stirring with the slightly larger 850

I have one and I love it! Was a better price on Amazon at the time I got mine also than other brands.

No one makes a better stuff sack than Toaks. They even sell them separately in 3 different sizes. Wish they were available in black instead of just orange. Vargo used to make the same quality stuff sacks in black, but recently they've gone to a much cheaper type of stuff sack. Not nearly as good. For anyone wanting to get into Ti cook kits, this Toaks 750ml large mug/small pot is ideal for a one-person cook kit. Price is excellent too, consiidering how much their competitoirs charge for similar cook mugs/pots. (I have the Toaks 750ml with handle bale attachment.) That small Wildo cup on the inside is a great idea! Really makes it more versatile. I like using the smallest iso-butane fuel canister, along with a BRS mini stove, mini Bic lighter, folding spoon or spork (Toaks makes those too). And then a small clean-up kit consisting of a tiny bottle of soap, mini microfiber camp towel, and a very small cut-down combination scrub-pad and sponge in one. To be honest, I can barely get all that into my Snow Peak Solo 2.0 cook kit where the main mug/pot is 28 ounces or just a hair over 828ml. (Might not seem much, but that extra ounce really matters when it's time to put the lid back on.) So a 750ml mug/pot, will still be useful. Though that minimalist clean-up kit will likely need to be carried separately. Using fuel tabs instead with Esbit's Ultralight folding titanium stove and Toak's titanium windscreen, could get everything mentioned above inside the 750ml mug/pot. Including the stove and windscreen. So that's another idea.

I have a Jetboil minimo and a PR2. I wanted an extra burner and pot for making coffee. Instead I liked this so much it’s my main cooking rig now

I love my Toaks 750ml Pot. I have the version with the bail handle. I keep my coffee kit inside. I use the "hot lips" silicone pieces to drink from it while it is hot. I use it primarily to drink from and as a back up cooking pot. My primary pot is larger and has the added fins in order to cut down boil time (under 2 minutes for two cups of water with my MSR Pocket Rocket 2). The bail handle doesn't get in the way at all, it doesn't snag on pouches

I took my handles off and use a separate lip-grabber. Fits in my insulated sleeve better, and the handles either got too hot or wouldn't fit in my windscreen. Then, I replaced the bowl-lid for a sheet Alum heating lid and foamcore insulid. Love my insulation!

The improvement that can be made on this for weight and functionality as well as uses less fuel then the MSR stoves is the Soto Windmaster and is tested to out perform the MSRs proven to use less fuel and boil faster, and it has a good igniter built into it. Nice setup and I'm going with this except for going with the better Soto Windmaster stove instead.

Does boil time really effect your day to day? Go with BRS. It’s lighter. The notion of fuel savings is moot since you don’t know how much gas is in the canister. That’s the whole problem with gas stoves. In the field, you don’t know how much gas is in the can. So, you bring a full can each trip. That’s a lot to carry. I actually want a stove to burn more fuel so I don’t have to carry as much 😂

Another cool thing is the silicone Jetboil Zip lid will fit the 750ml pot, so you dont need the pouch to keep ur lid put and can drink from a hot mug without burning ur lips

I use the 750 in conjunction with my 32 oz bottles And a few snow peak solo cook sets yes sets lol I had a Ti problen for a bit

Have the Toaks but find the keep bag too short. Same kit with a longer bag means you could sit a gas cylinder on top of the lid and secure it to the pot. This would create more storage inside the pot for a weekend/day trip. Could make a bag but i like my Toaks bag and its easy to see/find.

Very cool, this is a great backpacker beverage cooker system! I have the version u mentioned with the bail and its kind of annoying, lol. I didn't realize there were the two versions when i bought it. Not a big deal though, as it is still pretty slim, enough that it can be thrown in the backpack with ease. Thanks for the review!!

I have the same version. You can remove the bail. Your left with the two tiny tabs but the option to cook over a fire is amazing.

Love that pot.

By the way, I also use a Snow Peak 700 mug that is in the rotation more frequently than the Τoaks b/c the Toaks lid can be tippy. The Snow peak 700 (trek series) with a Four Dogs titanium lid is the ideal solo pot imho. But definitely more pricey than the Toaks. (ymmv)

Nice setup and review! Do you still have a bit of free space above the gas stove when lid is closed ? I have a Firemaple FM116T stove wich is a bit bigger in diameter stowed (65mm diameter for the head) and don’t know if it would fit with canister and Wildo cup inside.. You didn’t feel the need to have the extra handle version of the cup ?

Will this nest with the Soto amicus instead of the pocket rocket? Was originally looking at the 550 cause that’s really all I need, but being able to store the fuel canister with the stove is a game changer just to have everything all in one place... nice vid!

What is the small bag you have attached to the sternum strap of your backpack?

Decent set up. I tend to use my lixada 750ml ti pot/cup. Pretty much the same but a bit cheaper to be honest. I recommend picking up the one that has the bail handle to pick the pot off the heat, saves using a grabber/pot holder. I also tend to use my folding twig stove and trangia alcohol stove combo. A very lightweight set up and if you run out of alcohol or have an abundance of twigs you can use what you find for fuel.

That's exactly my setup too! Make, size and bail handle. With a 10cm x 50cm x 0.1mm sheet of titanium foil from ebay and two paperclips to make a windshield which just rolls up around the inside of the pot as Trangias REALLY don't like the wind. I also have a cross-shaped cooker stand in stainless that just sits on top of the Trangia.

I have the same mug and opted out of the hanger also but because it is hard to drink out of the mug with the hanger. I use hot lips to drink straight out of the mug and have a piece of a bandana for a pot holder/cleaning cloth. Great piece of kit!!

(the bail comes off easily and it is set up so that the 'holes' for the bail are not in the way when drinking from the cup)

What size MSR cannister did you put in that Toaks pot?

I use a foldable Optimus Crux stove. It is about the same price & weight as the Rocket 2 but has a bigger burner and actually folds to fit neatly under the gas canister. I have been using one for several years and it has held up great.

FYI - the Toaks 750ml with the bail fits in most pouches and still holds my big blue nalgene. I've put my Toaks with bail in both a Condor H2O and a cheap amazon molle water pouch. Fits fine in both with the nalgene nestled comfortably inside. Just so you know!

Pls don't underestimate the danger of boiling water injuries - I try to always put boiling water an arm's length away. In a tent or under a tarp, I forego boiling water altogether by adding freeze-dried food to the pot, instead of having to bring a pot of water to a boil before adding to a food pouch. It's more cleanup but safer. Happy camping, keep up the fun videos!

I have settled on the 1,100 + 450. Smaller ones are just too small for my personal needs. YMMV

Lixada, tomshoo, toaks and others, same stuff with different stamp but still same manufacturer, but toaks is double the price than others. I know this vid is 4y old, but was wondering if you've figuret out already: the little triangle pull tab... you can slide it one side to completely lock in standing posiotion.

Hi, can the handles are removable on the 750ml pot ?

I only have one question. How can you go from freshly roasted coffee beans ground just moments before brewing one day and then enjoy a cup of instant coffee the next?

4:17 - kind of chuckled that you poured the water into the cup first, then poured the water from the cup into the pot. But hey - that shows that instinctively people like measuring liquid that way. UltraLight hikers who just bring a single cup are kind of missing out. Besides the fact that you can't drink out of a hot ass pot, It's so much nicer to have a separate drinking cup to pour into.

How is titanium compared to stainless steel?

When I heard the weight, I could just hear the ultra-lite fanatics groaning xD And when he pulled out the Nalgene I heard it again! haha

I've had the Toaks 750 ml pot with the bail in addition to the handles. The bail is removable and is aligned from the handle to the opposing side. This leaves an area clear for drinking...ie lip contact. Some mugs have the bail attached in such a way so when you do to take a drink your teeth run into the bail attachment point. Toaks did it right! So the hard question is weather it's a pot that allows you to use it as a mug as well, or is it a mug that allows you to use it as a pot? I'm so confused!

I need how many OZ is the isobutane, I can’t find the small size to fit in my 750 Toaks.

I have the Toaks 850ml pot I believe discontinued and the 600 ml. The are good deals for Titanium. I don’t like to use them in fires. I guess they cost to much for that. I use my Stanley steel cook set for that.

Will this pot fit inside the 1600 ml pot with hanging handle from totes

a 48 oz nalgene will nest inside it.

Oilite 24 oz anodized aluminum much less expensive @ $14 with much longer handles Aluminum is much better for heat distribution and slow simmering REI anodized 450 mug for $9 same weight as titanium And the BSR stove top at $9 is significantly lighter with a very focused flame

How is the vanquest markhor 45 handling. How much weight are you carrying in it and does it carry well ?

gideonstactical awesome. One more question. On the inside, the side panels are they Velcro ? Going to pull the trigger on it and going to buy their new sticky packs for more organization so I can Velcro it to the sides.

there are so many pines around but you drink some instant coffee. I understand why but you can also include some extra info on how to make something healthy.

Why not use a lower flame? When you have flames or heat going up the side, you're wasting fuel. Better, according to experts, and my experience, is keep the flame on the bottom of the pot only. Jmho.

A water filter won't take care of heavy metals or pesticides unless you have a carbon filter attached. Usually, when you're out in nature, only parasites and bacteria's are a concern. Obviously you don't get your wayer from agricultural runoffs or downstream of a factory. If its a clean river or lake, you should be good to either boil or filter.

IMHO, titanium does not hold heat well, food being cooked in it will stick, and it's not that much lighter than anodized aluminum. Not worth the money.

The term "Titanium cook kit" is a bit of a misnomer. (Okay, maybe more than a bit.) Ideally it's best to use such cook kits for boiling up water to re-hydrate something like a Mountain House meal inside of its bag. Or, to boil water (purify it) for drinking. Or, cooking very basic "meals" inside the pot. Like a $1 Ramen noodles pack. You're not going to be doing any full-blown cooking in these types of cook kits. Even a basic 4-item Hobo Stew isn't going to be possible in one of these things without burning the pot. The problem with aluminum though are the studies that have been out for years linking heating up aluminum with Alzheimer's Disease. Rare or occasional use likely won't be an issue. But no one who enjoys hiking does so once or twice a year at most. I've known people who have sold off their aluminum cook kits, stored them away to likely never be used, or even tossed them in the trash. If you want something very light-weight but safe too, the Ti cook kits are definitely worth the money.
