For those that don't know, the Dropout Discord has an all-out ban on discussing Doctor Who in the Um, Actually threads because the canon is so convoluted and contentious. I think they knew what they were doing using this reference to make the change, and the comments have already begun.

Honestly with long-runners like comic books and Doctor Who -- especially in franchises where the current writers/showrunners are former fans now running the asylum -- the safest bet is, whatever has been recently portrayed as canon, _is_ canon. Accept retcons as they come and go; eventually some crazy guy will give it the Hawkman treatment and say _"it's all canon now."_

@@romxxii Yeah, and especially when they have massive self-contradictory extended universes as well. See: the Eighth Doctor has two canons which don't mesh, the novels and the audios. The audios were canonised in a 50th Anniversary minisode with reference to those companions, so surely those are the canon ones? But also, the novelisation of that minisode references companions from both canons. So they're both canon even though they can't be! Massive extended self-contradictory universes are amazing.

Love that they did this change through a Doctor Who reference that’s awesome But I have to say UM ACTUALLY one companion did regenerate Romana regenerated from Mary Tamm to Lala Ward so it is inaccurate to say that companions on the whole don’t regenerate

Um, actually, in “The Timeless Children” (season 12 episode 10 of Doctor Who) we learn that the Doctor was not born on Gallifrey. Additionally, while the Doctor’s name isn’t “Doctor Who” and they don’t go by that, their name also isn’t “the Doctor”. That’s a title they use, and their real name hasn’t been revealed to the audience (as of the posting of this comment). The title of the Doctor has changed at least once when they were referred to as “the War Doctor” during the Last Great Time War.

Sorry, the Doctor refers to Doctor as their name on multiple occasions, even after the "real name" retcon is revealed. The natural conclusion is that, much like someone being named "Slim" and also "Bobby," both of the names are correct. So we can't give you a point for that one. Spot on about them not being Gallifreyan though.

Um actually, while the Doctor is not originally Gallifreyan, the Chameleon Arch watch used to store their memories of their time in Division also rewrote their biology to be identically that of a Time Lord. So that is to say that while they are not literally “from Gallifrey”, they are Gallifreyan in the sense that they are biologically identical to Time Lord residents of Gallifrey. Also, it’s not certain that the Doctor’s name hasn’t been revealed- evidence from Classic Who suggests it may be “Theta Sigma”, though this is highly debated and is generally considered more likely to just have been an appellation given them at the Academy.

Um, actually, you're mostly correct but also The Doctor WAS credited as "Dr. Who" several times in the original series, so it's not incorrect to use that title, despite neither Dr. Who or The Doctor being that character's true name.
