Lyrics:
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's five and I'm driving home again
It's hard to believe that it's my last time
The man on the wireless cries again
It's over, it's over
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's late and I'm with my love alone
We drink to forget the coming storm
We love to the sound of our favourite song
Over and over
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Living out a memory of a love that died
It's time and we're in each other's arms
It's time but I don't think we really care
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes
Weeping for the memory of a life gone by
Dancing with tears in my eyes

It's about time Midge Ure became a Sir. He was the unsung hero of Band Aid 1985. Whilst Geldof took the glory, Midge ure was content to stay in the shadows and organise and plan the whole event. I will always hold him in the upmost respect for that.

  • @chesirekatja1698

    @chesirekatja1698

You should read Geldoff's book about it all, you'll see what and who was behind the whole thing, who actually went to Africa and held dying children and made a lot of the big decisions. Who called and called and wrote anyone and everyone to get the whole thing off the ground. Yes, Midge helped a lot, but it was Geldoff that did most of the legwork and got it all going. They did write the song together and i do believe Midge should get more credit for that

Born in 1986 I heard all these songs playing in my parent's car. Aha, Rah Band, Talk Talk, Ultravox, Alphaville, Bronsky Beat, Soft Cell, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark... They had a few new-wave compilations on audio cassette. All these songs really painted my early memories with some unique colours. I was a young boy full of hope for the future. I would never have imagined society would be such a mess in 2020. Dancing with tears in my eyes is one special track. I remember having mixed feelings about that one. Still have. It's stirring up some deep and unknown sentiment. Could not find a word for it. Thanks Ultravox you're great artists bringing beauty to the world.

I should agree partly. I'm 40, come from Slovakia, former Czechoslovakia, so 80's was the decade of a change. Also my childhood years. And music such as this was not available (easily) [became at the beginning of 90s]. So I understand that nostalgia of people like me. But I've read many comments of different people, from different countries, different age (30-70) and all of them say "Good old 80's, fuck the today'. Why is that? What was the main reason of their nostalgia? Dunno how easy was to get music in western countries in end of 80's (behind "the wall" it wasn't easy [and also not legal for 'western' music afaik]), but compare it to today - wanna music? Plenty of. Instantly. Everywhere. Maybe music devalved and todays music has no value for our ears because there is too much music everywhere. Maybe it is about social contacts - wanna music at 80's? Go to shop, go to concert, meet people. Not "open web browser and play (freely)" whatever you want. Alone. Everywhere...

Oh puh-lease. Hardly a scary time. Maybe you grew up with parents who were very anti-nuke, but our time was nothing like the late '50s to early '60s with the frequent nuke war school drills or the build-a-bomb-shelter-in-the-backyard mania. Compare the tone of a movie like War Games to that of the hundreds of in-the-event-of-nuclear-attack films of the 1950s. Three Mile Island led to no deaths, and as I recall nuclear power was then still hailed as the cleanest power by both sides of the aisle (waste disposal was not yet recognized as the problem it is today). In regards to Chernobyl, the details weren't available until the late 80s. Nuclear war and reactor failure were issues of the day in the '70s and '80s for sure, but were far more political than felt issues.
