I actually liked equilibrium for what it was, but I really hated Ultraviolet

Fair enough, I thought Equilibrium was okay, I can understand people loving it or disliking it. But Ultraviolet, I tried watching it for about 10 minutes and gave up.

If it helps, the tears turned the kid into a vampire, thus the human antigen inside him could no longer kill him.

How did this movie even get to the Big Screen? Looks it it was thrown together in a month. Never saw it in theaters and I'm glad I didn't waste my money.

Not straight to DVD, but very specifically straight to Blu-ray. Sony poured a ton of money into this movie and UltraViolet wasn’t supposed to be good, it was just supposed to look good and promote the new Blu-ray format. Even the name of the film is a reference to Blu-ray.

Here's my question. The combat scene where everyone's in white...where's the blood? Did 4kids take over the production?

I remember getting up and walking out of this movie about 15-20 minutes in.

You don't watch Ultraviolet for the plot, you watch it for Milla Jovovich looking sexy and badass while killing loads of bad guys.

I enjoyed equilibrium

The rooftop scene where Mila speaks to a guy in "made up language" is actually Vietnamese

I kinda like this movie. It makes me nostalgic for 2006, and I like the candy-coated production design.

I don´t know why, but this movie really reminds me of Lazy town.

Pink Suicide No, it was created by Sony to be a Blu-ray launch title. The movie was basically multimillion dollar promotional material that was intended to be displayed in TV and electronic stores to show off how good Blu-ray players looked.

@@EnkarashaddamNot all the TVs, a few TVs would play standard DVDs with the color setting manually lowered to show off how amazing Blu-ray looked compared to DVDs. Best Buy still uses this type of tactic to help push the sales of hIgher priced HD 4K TVs.

This movie is basically just a 90 minute music video (with hardly any music)

Been binge watching your videos since I discovered your channel a couple weeks ago. I love you review style. If you ever think about doing another series, I think it would be really cool to do The Dark Crystal along with Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance

Milla Jovovich looks good, but this movie, I've never made it past the first ten minutes.

Can't believe I went to the theater to see this. All the fights were her mostly dodging. Just shitty.

1:08 The opening comic book panels give a certain Buckaroo Banzai feel where, as Kyle Garren from Brows Held High put, it wants you to believe this single story exists as the only chapter of a cinematic universe, and wants you to believe that these other stories of Violet's continuing adventures in the intro exist. However, unlike Buckaroo Banzai, I could care less about the story of Ultraviolet continuing or looking for further issues of her adventures. Unless maybe checking the Ultraviolet anime series, but even that's unlikely.

Watching this in 2021 wow good thing this is just a movie and in no way similar to anything happening today

When I rented this from the library, I couldn't finish it due to it being hard on my eyes with the crazy filter and color palette.

part of the plot inconsistencies is because the movie was re-edited and was cut by 40 minutes, not including the 8 minutes added back to the unrated extended cut.

This is one of the best terrible movies ever. For horror there's Birdemic,drama had The Room,LGBT movies had Ben and Arthur, musicals had Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and for action movies we got Ultraviolet.

William Fichtner was in this shit! Are you shitting me!? Visually, this feels like the exact same film as Aeon Flux which came out (a flopped) a year earlier. Not only that, but Wimmer went on to piss on two greats: Point Break and Total Recall with his shite writing. And I'll admit it, I actually thought the gun kata was a cool idea when I saw Equilibrium- the story was sooooooooo cliche, but the gun kata was pretty cool. Unfortunately, I guess Wimmer knew that.

That cup at 16:22 looks like the opposite of spill proof. Even the actor has a hard time picking it up.

With the main guy not wearing sunglasses, I get the feeling that in his head it was because he was so cool and badass he put up with the pain to make sure people didn't know he was a vampire. But he forgot to actually hint at that at any point during the film so it just ends up feeling more like he forgot about it. Though he could also just have forgotten what he wrote earlier as well, when a film is this bad all bets are off on whether its juvenile stupidity or just not paying attention to your own world.

i just noticed the continuity error in the church fight scene she chopped off 3 heads and in the next shot there are no heads on the ground or anyone actually beheaded

Every time I've seen this movie, I've just found it on TV and watched from the middle where it happened to be playing. I've never finished watching it, and I suppose that's a good thing.

Supposedly Kurt Wimmer was born in Honolulu, HI. Where I was born and raised. That being said, I don't accept him as my own fellow because of this movie.

There couldn't be any more style in this movie if they tried. Over stylized would be the greatest understatement ever uttered by man.

Wow...it really looks like they took some early pre-viz for those city shots and decided it was good enough to use on its own. Given how bad it looks on a little KZread window, I can only imagine how godawful it must've looked on a theatrical screen.

Trust me, it was garbage. I made the mistake of seeing it in the cinema. It looked liked video graphics from the late 90's with a Vaseline smeared over the top.

Just to point out, i believe the film maker wants us to think that a bloodborn pathogen somehow transferred to the kid through violet's tears thus making the human killer virus not lethal to him. I think there is a throw away line somewhere near then end saying as much.

Wow. This is a bad movie. I though that the Resident Evil series was bad. I didn't fully like equilibrium but wow.

you have a scene of a vampire standing outside in clear daylight- did the director forget the movies twist two?

This is one of the few CGI shit shows that I was wise enough not to watch ... or buy at the store.

During the scene where the 3 guys get shot (16:18), the dictator guy shoots them in a way where their hands are posed as the 3 monkeys that do "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil"... Why?!

I saw this movie in theatres and rented the shit out of it forever hoping that it be good. Guilty pleasure and i'm not sorry

She never reloads her Uzis once. They don’t overheat or jam either. They just fire endlessly with no kick-back or recoil

Love your reviews .This is super late but i recently got into your reviews and the one thing i disagree with is the the whole taking the gun out of the bag. Its not taking it too far because yes people who are germaphobs dont stop being germaphobs because the audience knows now it would lack consistency with the character shown being an over the top germaphob. Me personally i didn't really take the movie seriously because i think that was intended it was hust supposed to be an over the top "Stylised" film it was still bad but just saying from what i have watched.

I think her tear infected 6. I think that's what the flash back was implying.

I like this movie. I also liked Equilibrium. But I've enjoyed your reviews too. Hmmm.......oh well.

Why does it feel like a good bit of this was stolen from Ruroni Kenshi? The villain's serrated sword catching on fire looks to me like it was lifted directly from Shishigami Makoto...

Yeah, Hollywood's attempts at live-action anime movies haven't been very successful.

It’s Sad cause Kurt Wimmer is one of my Favorite Writers And has made Lot Of Good Films Like Equilibrium, Law Abiding Citizen, Street Kings, Salt, Total Recall Remake, Point Break Remake, One Man’s Justice, Point Break, Spell, And The Recruit

pretty sure your the only person to say the Total Recall Remake and Point Break Remake is good the latter of which I think I read someone putting it best saying "go pro and red bull made a movie" and speaking of which he had nothing to do with the original point break so not sure why thats on the list

The joke in school on this movie was "Ultraviolent". Not super original, I know.

I'm not sure Kurt Wimmer understands what the word 'antigen' means.

I really liked equilibrium, mostly because Christian bale is a great actor and I like bleak, dystopian futures, but good god, this movie is like Robert Rodriguez wrote it for his kids.

this reminds me of AEON FLUX. that is also worth a review

watching this in 2019 and this shit looks worse then kung fury (awesome movie btw)

The CGI looks like a cheap videogame you can buy for $5.

Yeah they are speaking vietnamese, It was a misunderstanding on my part which I fully own up to however the thai-hindi language is used throughout the film, its whats written on violets sword for example its on her tattoos, and its spoken several times, don't ask me where because its been a very long time since making this video

I really feel like some of the actors who read the script thought it was a comedy thus the weird comedy acting in places. And honestly that would make sense as if you saw in the script "and he takes out a germ sealed gun" you'd be in your rights to assume it's a comedy.

Just want to point out one fact: The scene when Violet faced the gang on rooftop (11:32), they were speaking in VIETNAMESE not Thai not Hindi not makeup language ThaiHindi whatsoever. It might sounds gibberrish because Violet's accent was heavy, but the guy was speaking very clear, and after a few listen in closely, I could tell Violet was speaking Vietnamese as well but heavily accented. Somebody owns the Vietnamese language an apology there.

I've seen a ton of bad movies over the years. I sat through Ladybugs, for christ sake, twice. I couldn't get past the helicopter scene in this movie.
