Ok, for those who haven't watched previous versions of Ultraman, that gem near his heart is a Color Timer. As well as being the source of his more energy focused powers, it's also a means of indicating the amount of energy he has left in his superhuman form, and as you might imagine, using energy powers makes it drain faster. When it starts flashing red, it means the energy is running out and he'll need to transform back into a human to avoid it fatally draining his own energy. And he'll need to avoid it becoming damaged cause it'll really hurt his time as Ultraman if it is. I mention this because the 2019 adaptation didn't really seem to focus enough on this. It was there but only when Ultraman went super mode did it seem to blink.

It depends on which installment we're talking about. Sometimes, it's just like what you said, sometimes, it's a health indicator. But most of the time, if it's called a Timer, then that's exactly what it is, no more, no less.

He seems very familiar to things like fame and public image, unlike more classic Ultras who feel more "alien" to human customs. I wonder if he's an alien or a human with Ultra powers. I've read somewhere that this parenthood story will fit with his own father, so I'm really wondering if that's referring to his Ultra father or a human one. If I'd have to bet, I'd say his father is the leader of the anti-kaiju force of his world.

Message to people thinking of the Waybig from Ben10: Ultraman is not based off the Waybig because it was created decades before Ben 10, and by that I mean in 1966, so do not say it’s directly the Waybig from Ben10 because Ultraman is more original, they’re “similar” design choices are most probably a coincidence

@@Shin.ToumaFR Godzilla 2014 is my favorite Godzilla movie ever, show some respect for other people's tastes. And yes, Goji's had good luck in America, but people forget that the Showa Era colored a lot of people's perceptions into thinking that all kaiju movies are low-budget shlock, and the Tristar movie did nothing to help with that. In America, Godzilla was always a cult thing that people would look down on you for liking. So like it or not, G14 and the MonsterVerse pushed Goji into the mainstream here, and kicked off Shin Godzilla, which in turn kicked off the Kaiju-Eiga Resurgence we're all currently enjoying. By "This could be our Godzilla 2014" I meant that this could be the thing that pushes the Ultra Series farther out into the mainstream in America.

New kaiju fan here (joined last year). Got in through the MonsterVerse, did not expect to end up here. I liked Godzilla, Gamera, and Pacific Rim, but for months, I derided the Ultra Series (mostly due to the uncanny valley effect the design had on me, as well as how goofy the whole thing was). But I was roped info watching Shin, I liked it, and I found myself gradually coming to enjoy it more and more, even though there’s still plenty of parts of it that aren’t my taste. It became a joke in my circle of friends: “Jun willingly joined Monarch, willingly stepped into a Jaeger, and willingly took hold of a magatama bead- but we had to drag her kicking and screaming into the light of the Plasma Spark.” Well, I’m here now, and I’m interested in what comes next. The animated medium solves a lot of my uncanny valley issues, and the animation here looks really stunning as well. The baby kaiju design looks… ehh… but we’ll see.

Classic tales like that of Japanese superheroes dark themes and beautiful messages are explicit, or references to things like religion and acknowledging the overlooked which would get you demonized by others in real life, I note that people become shocked when seeing the storylines of the original Spider-Man or other iconic American characters with hopeful messages, cartoony aspects with realistic designs, and overlooked things small or big shown for their dreadful realities. Regardless of the topic, their authors were sentimental and put a lot of effort into their work, things like rejection for shallow reasons, acts of so called "justice", and loneliness are various obstacles the protagonists in these stories face. I hope I was able to make my point across. Ultraman is meant to be uncanny, classic tales deal with uncanny aspects next to their themes and stories. Another example outside of Ultraman, is Godzilla with the symbolism of the atomic bomb and hatred, then Kamen Rider a tale made by the king of manga, Kamen Rider is fighting for love alone and in tears but his cause would eventually lead to generations of men after him that would join his cause against the organization of SHOCKER who within has even served as a mirror to the world. Characters like these typically fight to put it simply "angels". Like the "halo" effect.

This is an amazing trailer, I've always loved seeing Ultraman in action, protecting Earth from monstrous kaijus and saving the world, it so makes the giant hero of light more popular and iconic of the Ultraman franchise!

As an Ultraman fan I’m on the fence, but at the same time I really wanna watch it animated. I’m not sure if this is first ultraman or one of the Ultra brothers as I have lack of knowledge from the old era ultramen

I believe the director said that it's a brand new Ultra and isn't related to any of the Showa era lads, similar to how Blazar is.

I think it could work. Who knows? Maybe we could have a kaiju that fights on the side of good.

"Ultraman befriending/taking care of a Kaiju" is such a classic storyline too, the writers very clearly know their stuff.

@@jasonharris3502 You should give Ultraman Cosmos a try, mate It's pretty light-hearted Ultraman show with pacifistic Ultra character and plenty of friendly kaijus in it
