Thank you for sharing this. I’ve thought heavily on buying one of these. I believe I’m going to buy one ready from the manufacturer. I own land in Atlanta, where I can add a landing strip or I may pay to keep this at a private airport about thirty miles south of the city. My goal is to buy something I can fly from Atlanta to Savannah, which is about 223miles. The Hummel can fly 270 miles. I believe this would be a perfect way to enjoy traveling back to forth.

That looks like fun. Attending grade school in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles in the mid 60's, a family from Hendersonville moved in down the street. We all became good neighborhood friends. The father was an early computer "greasemonkey" and traveled all over fixing them. Was always curious about the lay of the land from my new friends description of the area and the snowfalls and driveway sled rides. Big Hummel fan here. The half VW also. Thanks for letting me have a good look at Hendersonville. Leaves me wondering why they would leave such beautiful terrain for Los Angeles suburbia. My kingdom for a grass field like yours.

I took lessons off that very field,,,,did my private cross-country's from there. Was more interesting landing from the other direction. Line up for the paved cut left at last moment over the hangars using a light post as a reference and was below the trees then touch down and hold

Thanks for posting your flight. I saw you fly over that day, around the 15 minute mark on your video. Heard the half VW and ran out to look. Ultracruiser is one of my favorites. Love the sound of that engine.

highly enjoyable, thank you. Calling out the airspeeds and altitude on finals would have enhanced it, but well done. Ps the canopy could do with a clean on the forward view..

Hi! I just retired and have about given up on building a Sonex. I went to Oshkosh 2008 and bought plans, only to discover everyday life was too time consuming. My son in law is a pilot and I fly with him anytime. But, now i would really like to build an Ultracruiser. I live near Raleigh. Now I have a question about yours, how did they rig a starter on the half VW? I really hate hand proping, especially such a light aircraft. Well, thanks for the video and info along the way

I'm been researching about both Merlin Lites and Hummel Ultracruisers and I am looking at which one I would prefer. Do you have any opinions about this aircraft or possibly the other. Both are fantastic planes either way.

Hi, enjoy the video. I am older 67 years old and thinking of looking for an ultra Cruiser ultralight. I see you on the video yours has electric start. The ones that I have looked at you have to hand prop which scares me. Do you have any information or know of any information of how to convert 1 to electric start? Thank you for any and all information appreciate it.

Hi John, I almost finish building my Hummel bird, and I have a question, did you use the whole VW, or 1/2VW? THANK YOU
