Risky Red Bull Plane Stunt Goes Wrong

Red Bull is famous for extreme stunts. In this risky 'plane swap' stunt, two pilots were supposed to swap planes mid-air. Unfortunately, only one pilot was succesful while the other aircraft crashed. Both pilots are safe.

🟡 Two extremely lousy pilots. Period. Okay, they messed it up because they did it for the clicks and a couple of thousand bucks. And that's the reason why they are lousy pilots. They are totally unprofessional. The two hot shots are proud enough to show us how stupid the are (sorry, guys) : BFD. And why the .... would you do something like that, jumping out of a perfectly working airplane? Are you bored oder just ... slow? IMHO you guys are lousy "pilots", indeed. Oh, and the lousy excuses at the end of the clip... priceless.... jeezzzzz. Amateurs. Greets from the left seat, sunshines. I'm not jumping, because I can.

I don't know anything about skydiving, parachutes or helicopters, so I may not be aware of some important factors here- but to me it seems like the propellers (don't even know if that's what they're called on helicopters) would be continually blowing everything downward onto the ground. Wouldn't that negate any real risk of it sucking up the chute?

Losing his grip on the wing spar, even just a little too much momentum could have carried him forward into the spinning propellor, and this would have been a much more tragic occurrence. One key safety implement that should have been in this stunt is a prop brake to completely nullify the chance of making contact with a spinning propellor

It's tough enough to watch for all the planes flying horizontally let alone people and things falling vertically in this airspace though the jump planes do announce when a jump is in progress. Also despite what has been written about the area being remote, this area has several ranches, farms, a prison, and a few subdivisions near the Eloy airport. Sadly, just like the very stupid Trevor Jacob debacle, this stunt did nothing positive for the future of General Aviation.

Yes. And they did the stunt south of Eloy near Sawtooth, a private airstrip. Quite unsafe since most of the time we avoid overflying Eloy due to skydiving operations by remaining west of the I10, except this time planes and jumpers are falling out of the sky west of the 10 and we don't even know about it. Very unsafe

They had spotters to confirm sterile airspace, and it was a severe clear VFR day. The planes were down in less than 1 minute. The planes had automatically deploying safety parachutes. The pilots had parachutes. The planes had tons of engineering done on their chute systems and speedbrakes. Tons of money and planning went into making this happen, money that supported the American economy. I have no doubts that their safety plan passed the insurance underwriters scrutiny. The FAA had no place to block this while any fool can fly up to 17,500' in a paramotor without a single lesson or understanding of airspace.

Wilful non compliance of the regulations. Pilots should always be bound by rules & regulations in the interest of public safety. I find it incomprehensible how people would consciously disregard regulators for the sake of video likes & channel subscriptions. Especially as mentioned above that the FAA has continually denied the waiver to do this stunt. My advice to aspiring pilots would be to stick to videos that help you get & most importantly retain your license. No stunt will ever be worth losing your license over. We already have so many possible stumbling blocks that we hurdle to continually practice the privileges of our license.

Clearly this stunt was professional and well planned though a safety pilot remaining in each aircraft would probably been a good idea and would most probably have made it legal. However it is totally unacceptable that a large international company such as Red Bull totally disregarded the federal aviation authority that refused permission for this stunt for their advertising. Red Bull as well as the pilots must be made to pay a very very heavy price for blatantly disregarding the FAA when alternative plans could have easily been made for carrying out the stunt

I actually saw a tiktok from one of these guys, several weeks before the stunts, talking about what they were going to do and how it would work, etc. I remember at the time thinking to myself that there's a good chance something like that could end in disaster but I am glad to hear that no one was hurt and only one plane suffered damage. Could have been much worse or deadly but all their safety precautions paid off and kept them both safe. A bummer to hear about it not working but I'm sure they're looking at doing something soon to make up for this one. They're both amazing pilots and have some giant huevos that's for sure, LOL.

I could not conceive this would even be possible. Yes, a plane was destroyed, I get it, but how many times did the Wright brothers fail? Or Apollo mission failures or any other invention or exploration that pushed the limits of mankind achievements. The world needs these kind of people.

@@greeneggsandsam2014 No one on the ground was in danger. The team had calculated where the plane would land in the event of failure. The event was well publicized as well. No one was in this zone who was not aware that the event was taking place. As far as destroying a plane, so what. It was their plane. All that said, they will likely be disciplined in some manner by the FAA. But it will not be severe.

@@simonbagel what if the plane had entered inverted flight instead of a flat spin? It's obvious the chute system took a while to deploy, if the plane had flown a few miles outside their "calculated" zone and the chute didn't work, what then? What about other traffic in the area? If the FAA had approved the stunt (if), then they could have made a TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) to warn others who didn't hear the "publicity" about it beforehand
