Ultra Rare Classic Pickup Truck With A Special History | 1952 Studebaker 2R5 Pickup

I bought the best classic Studebaker 2R5 Pickup truck in blue with the all original champion 170 flathead six cylinder motor and the car is absolutely perfect. We go for a drive to talk about this specific truck is so special to me and my family. We then go over what makes this truck so unique from anything else you will find on the road.
This classic hot rod truck is an absolute gem inside and out and will make you grin ear to ear as you rev that flathead 6 out through the three on the tree manual transmission.
If you have a Challenger, Camaro, c100, c20, ford f1, Silverado, K1, f150, or a GMC, you will like the classic styling of this rare beauty.

My birth year is the same as your moms, and I remember these trucks vividly as a kid. Glad that you were able to gain possession of it as part of your mom's history. However, it makes me sad that you and your father disowned you. I hope he's able to come to terms with his differences and can reconcile his relationship with you.

I learned to drive in a 49 Studebaker pickup. The over drive will increase your top speed to about 65 mph. It's well worth the effort to fix it.

Bel, good call! I will get on that, it will definitely make the car more enjoyable to drive. Being able to stop from 65 with the original brakes, thats another question! LOL

Beautiful truck! I have a 1949 Studebaker 2R-5 and I find it interesting the differences in where things are placed in your truck vs mine. My ash tray is underneath the middle of the dash, close to where your radio is. Most likely when the radio was put in yours, they moved the ash tray over. I really like the rear bumper on your truck. That was the industrial bumper for these trucks, and I think it's a lot more useful and better built than the regular straight bumper. Those turn signals on top of the fenders were an option from the factory; even having turn signals was an option at the time though. That's why now you find these trucks with different styles of turn signals in different places. If you are interested in learning more about the history of these 2R series trucks, I think you would really enjoy reading Fred Fox's articles about the history of these beautiful 1949-53 2R series trucks. Fred Fox is one of the writers for 'Turning Wheels' the Studebaker Drivers Club magazine. You've got the best of both worlds: a Studebaker truck and a Lamborghini super car in the same garage. Keep on truckin'

Richard, Thanks for reaching out about your truck! Those differences you pointed out are very interesting. I feel it just adds to the character of the truck with everything being in a slightly different spot depending on when it rolled out of the factory and who built it. I'm also glad to hear that the parts that I thought were aftermarket were in fact original components! So that's very cool. I took a look at the 2r5 on your channel, and I have to say you have a very beautiful truck! She is an absolute gem. I will look into Fred Fox and his articles about the 2R trucks, thanks for reaching out with that resource. I look forward to reading more about the history of these rare and special pieces of automotive history. Keep on truckin' and thanks for reaching out!

Happy for you that you were able to keep it in the family as a direct descendant of the original owner! Good Granny! Love to color and the combo of both it and the Lambo! Maybe add some of that blue to a small detail on the Lambo, and a little of the orange on the truck...

Great story. I am blessed to have my family farm and my Uncles 53 Stude truck. They are just worldly things that I cherish and I give God thanks for His "tender mercies". I'm thankful for you that your Dad purchased the truck back when it was lost. Hope you can patch things up with him. Hope you also get that over drive fixed!

Beautiful pickup and story! I drove my dad's 59 Studebaker pickup to high school. Originally it was his stepdad's. It had the same blue paint, 3 on the tree, and flathead six. I remember dad telling me that he didn't want me to drive faster than 45 and that he could tell by the bugs that hit the windshield. Well, that just got me to keep a bottle of Windex and a rag behind the seat and to clean the windshield after I got home :) Thanks for posting the video. Enjoy the ride!

Great story - truck came back twice so I guess it knows where it belongs. The overdrive equipped trucks usually had a lower geared differential, so I understand if it is not working, the truck will not go all that fast. With the over drive working, your final gear ratio will change from 1:1 (straight third gear) to 0.7:1 (in overdrive). Those Borg-Warner overdrives were pretty simply and as durable as the transmissions. It might be an easy fix and you will be able to do regular (60-65 mph) highway speeds with no trouble. But, as you stated, one always has to be conscious of what the limits on the brakes are. With the OD not working, it is recommended to pull the OD handle out, locking the OD out and eliminating the freewheeling. Good luck and happy miles for you all.

Patrick, I couldn't agree more. It is home to stay! I will get right on fixing that overdrive, it will make the car so much more fun to drive. You are completely right though, stopping at 65 with original brakes, maybe not the best idea! Happy cruising to you as well.
