Ultra-marathoner breaks Appalachian Trail record

Scott Jurek is one of the most famous and accomplished ultra-marathoners in history, having won some of the sport’s most impressive races, including the Western States 100 seven consecutive times from 1999 to 2005. As of this past Sunday, he now also holds the speed record for a supported thru-hike of the 2,189 mile Appalachian Trail. Jurek joins “CBS This Morning: Saturday” to talk about his 46 days, 8 hours, and 7 minutes on the trail and why he continues to take on these extremely challenging treks.

*Assisted record. He also got a handful of citations for littering, alcohol consumption, as well as having an excessive group on top of Mt Katahdin which is making Baxter State Park want to move the northern terminus of the AT even more than they had already wanted to

do your homework, small fry. you will see that's all smoke and mirrors. the littering citation was literally from someone letting champagne pour out on the ground. the large group citation was out of his control. there was a group of fans who traveled to meet him at the end who happened to follow on social media. look up online all the pictures of the countless bags and boxes of empty gel packs and wrappers he and his wife packed out as he was running the trail. people will spin things and put a negative outlook on things because they can't handle someone doing big positive things in their lives. read about the guy and you'll quickly realize no way in hell is this guy a litterer or law breaker at all.

and i HIGHLY doubt because someone broke a fkt that this is a reason why a trailhead would be moved to another aspect of a mountain.

This guy has been a vegan for over 20 years, if you know a little bit about veganism you should know that their lifestyle is all about kindness to the environment and the animals. The man deserves to spill a little champaign for all his accomplishments and changing many people's life to the benefit of this planet. I just met him 1 hour ago and I can tell you that he's probably one of the nicest persons I've ever met.

When it comes to hugely long ultra races, it seems that there are fewer differences between men and women's abilities... Look at Courtney Dauwalter, she won the Moab 240 mile race by 10 miles against her male competitors. Ultras require some base running fitness, but they are mostly mental.
