    Fun fact: finnair was not reaponsible for losing your bag, finavia is the one who handles to baggages in helsinki airport. So avoiding finnair does no good to you (except avoiding their crappy service onboard the plane). If you are flying away from helsinki, your baggages will still be handled by finavia no matter what airline you use.

    So your bag vanished into Finnair! 😂 By the way what is the point of a Faraday bag when one can easily switch the phone off, and save the battery into the bargain? And if you're worried about it still being on somehow, just hold it near an AM radio on an empty station. You'll soon hear noise if it's brought close to the radio if it is in any way powered up still.

    It is rare that I actually need to check baggage. You would be surprised what you can fit in a backpack that meets carry on requirements and a laptop bag that meets personal item requirements. I have spent a week out of country with a shirt and underoos for each day, a light jacket, a hoodie, and a backup pair of pants (wrinkle spray is awesome). For equipment, I had two laptops, a tablet, a phone, a really good compact charger and battery bank. I really don't understand what people bring with them (or how they pack) that requires full luggage unless bulky equipment is involved.

    Great tips as usual. What air tag like device do you recommend for Androids that are not Samsung devices? Tried to get something last year before travel and didn't find anything decent for Android or Pixle phones. I travel carry on only which helps reduce risk and even for 2-3 months in Europe but not everyone is able to.

    All good tips but it's pretty hard to do it all... I mean sometimes you just want to wander around a town without a bag or have the phone ready to take some pictures or something. Putting the phone on Lockdown mode so it can't be open with fingerprint works when not using it. But at 5:39... nothing related, but you should consider cleaning the laptop. :) Great video, as always!

    What's the benefit of putting your phone in the Faraday bag over just putting it in airplane mode when you're not using it? Depriving your phone of a carrier signal will cause it to crank up the radios which in turn will drain the battery.

  • @AllThingsSecured

    @AllThingsSecured

    7 ай бұрын

    Where did you read that? And it's more than just the carrier signal we're talking about here, which is one of many differences between airplane mode and a faraday bag.

  • @drstrr

    @drstrr

    7 ай бұрын

    @@AllThingsSecured It's similar to what people in poor coverage areas experience battery wise. The phone's radio needs more power to maintain a connection with the cell. But reading your response, I assume that you switch off your phone AND put it in the Faraday bag. Going the extra mile of putting your phone in the Faraday bag seems conflicting, when you also carry an AirTag in the backpack for ehm, tracking.

  • @shubinternet

    @shubinternet

    7 ай бұрын

    You turn the device off or put it into airplane mode, before you put it into the Faraday bag. And don't forget all those other radio transmitting/receiving devices, like your key fobs, your earbuds, your credit and debit cards, etc....

  • @drstrr

    @drstrr

    7 ай бұрын

    Yes, for all the other things you mentioned it makes sense to put those in the Faraday bag. What I don't understand is what the point is of putting a switched off phone in the bag? Is there any proof that switched off phones are still communicating? Or is it something that the Faraday bag companies wants us to believe?

    @@AllThingsSecured Of course. One tracks, the other prevents tracking. That's why I am asking what the benefits are if you are being tracked still by AirTag but not your other devices. With which companies AirTag shares information?

  • @drstrr

    @drstrr

    7 ай бұрын

    @@yking8565That's a good point. The question is: Is there an actual legitimate concern with being tracked with your phone than there is by being tracked with an AirTag? That thing is designed as a beacon for other nearby iPhones to detect.

  • @shubinternet

    @shubinternet

    7 ай бұрын

    The AirTag will randomize its Bluetooth MAC address, and it should not be affiliated with any of your other devices or accounts, except through Apple. So, anything that is tracking you will see something walking by, but they won't be able to correlate that back to your phone or other devices you might have with you.

  • @drstrr

    @drstrr

    7 ай бұрын

    @@shubinternet Thanks for sharing. The concern is not with others iPhone users being able to track those. I'm sure Apple made sure that's not possible. But Apple themselves is certainly tracking you, as they have to correlate AirTags with Apple IDs and whatnot. The point is: Why take the extra step of putting your phone in the Faraday bag because of tracking, when you keep your Faraday bag in your backpack next to an AirTag for... tracking? Or can we trust Apple on their blue eyes?

  • @shubinternet

    The Modern Rogue channel has some pretty good videos on detecting hidden cameras and hidden microphones. Good VPNs are not a scam, so long as you know what they are good for protecting you from and what they are not good at. Now, your view of what a good VPN is might be different from mine, but I submit that all good VPNs fit this general description.

    Wow, we're getting pretty deep down the rabbit hole here. I know there are devices to detect hidden cameras but I'm not too worried about that personally. VPNs can be a scam. I think they are over-marketed, but in the case of traveling and getting on public WiFi, I think they have value.
