ULTIMATE TRACKBALL COMPARISON pt2: EXPERT vs EXPERT WIRELESS - KENSINGTON TRACKBALL MOUSE

Today, I compare the Kensington Expert with the Kensington Expert Wireless version. Is there any difference between the two mice? Which one is the best trackball? Is there any difference when it comes to video editing, music production or graphic designing? And is any of the two the best mouse for gaming? Expert vs Expert Wireless, which one is the best?

@@ArisMelachroinos A lot better than I expected & has been my daily driver since its arrival. Way better than a normal mouse IMO since I don't do as much gaming as I used to, mostly spreadsheets & report writing now. Originally got it for wrist fatigue and it definitely helped in that aspect especially when moving across multiple screens. I use it without the resting pad mainly hovering my hand over it. The only downside is that I find my self having to clean the inside where 3 little studs support/glide the trackball. My work area is a bit dusty, so in order to get the ball moving like new I probably clean them every other day. Besides that I don't have anything negative to say about it. Latency is not noticeable at all but that's with using a Bluetooth dongle not the one that is included with the mouse, haven't tried the latter yet. With practice you can get pretty precise mouse movements as well. The driver that is downloaded separately is quite useful. Having the ability to map different shortcuts onto the mouse for different programs can save a lot of time. It has however sent me down a black hole of ergonomics. I'm looking into picking up a curved or split keyboard such as the Ergodox, or perhaps even building my own. Ultimately, 10/10 recommend the mouse.

Thanks for this specific review. I watched your previous review on trackballs and had decided on a Kensington. I have been using Logitech trackballs (thumb-ball) for many years but wanted to give another version (palm/finger ball) a go after my Logitech suddenly died on me. I've bought the wired version because, unlike your set-up, my trackball and keyboard are on a table under my main desk, so the cable will not interfere with my desktop clutter.

Thanks for passing by and best of luck for your new mouse ;) Oddly enough, after many years of using Kensingtons, I have bought my first Logitech mouse a couple of days ago (still in the mail). Not that I intend doing the switch, but simply far too many people asked me to try one out, so we'll see. You can't really go wrong with the mouse you've chosen IMHO, but expect some time to get used to it before to fully enjoy it. After two hours use mixed with fumbling about trying to get the KensingtonWorks software to not have Javascript errors ( the solution was to run the old TrackballWorks software instead of the latest KensingtonWorks version) I find that I really like the trackball; the customisable buttons are a great feature, and I instantly loved the scroll collar. Just got my wireless expert mouse, to replace my old wired expert mouse today! I keep mine on the armrest of my chair, and the wire kept getting caught on the chair when I get up, sending it crashing to the floor (and the trackball rolling across the room). I did find out today during my searching that these trackballs are likely the same size as a standard billiard ball! Kind of curious about getting a neat patterned one of those as an alternate! Did see one youtube that seemed to suggest a plain billiard ball might not work, but they were using an undersized 54mm one so I'm not sure if it was the surface tracking, or the size of ball, that was the issue.

Have you noticed a delay from when you click the mouse until the action? I am using it in conjunction with the receiving dongle and I don't experience any delay with it at all. I have never tried it with it's Bluetooth capability yet, though. • @AleSuggests

I cannot find any official answer to that. Your best bet would be to email Kensington. However, according to some Reddit threads, both the wired and the wireless versions have the same polling rate, but they can be overclocked stably to 500hz. There is even a small Arduino chip to mod the mice up to 1000Hz, that you can find on GitHub. But please note that I am just quoting comments I read online at this point, as I have no first-hand experience in this regard, I'm afraid.
