I bought the tour speed and was surprised it gave me less distance than the tour soft !! My preference ProV1 but in early morning dew conditions have found the less spinning ball like AVX better.

An excellent test to see which Titleist golf ball will provide the results you want to achieve, interestingly the Pro V1 is as long or even longer than the harder golf balls, coming off the 56 deg wedge, I suspect on longer shots with lower lofted clubs this might change the other way

Love Titleist golf Balls, tried many and always come back to Titleist. I have used all of the Titleist line of Golf balls and for me I use Pro-V1's when it is a serious round (bragging rights on buddies) and Trufeel for the normal fun rounds.

Man you work hard for these tests - thanks for the info! I've played all but the left dash and been most impressed with the Tru Feel and the AVX with my particular game. Driver (or longer club wise) for higher handicaps do spinnier balls go further left/right (ie side spin) or does vertical spin help to straighten??

Driver doesn't create enough discrepancy between performance numbers of different ball types for it to be worthwhile. Rick Shiels has said many times over that driver performance is the last factor he considers because balls vary so little with that club. Almost all ball reviews start with feel on and around the greens, then launch, spin and peak height numbers off wedges and irons, then finally driver, which ALWAYS shows the smallest change in performance between balls...

The difference in spin rate for the Tour Soft vs Velocity likely related to angle of attack were significantly different. Seems that would really change spin. The hardest part of human testing.

I have been testing many balls very thoroughly over 100 actual rounds in different courses, different conditions using a brand and model fir six holes then switching and eliminating one and so on to end up with a shortlist that formats my swing speed snd best balance over driver distance, second shots, wedges, putting and around the green. While not over yet as I will be continuing this process till I end up with my two finalists and then my final choice so far those that have made my list - and I have tried many many direct to consumer balls too (oncore, snell, seed, cut, vice and many many more and all their models) alongside all the major brands (Titleist, tm, callaway etc) as well as others like honma, xxio, mizuno my current shortlist is: tour speed; tm tour response; oncore elixr, snell mtbx, srixon q star tour 3, Bridgestone b330rxs and rx. Hope to conclude by end of summer.

@@coozieray hard to pinpoint one as a lot depends on your own game, your swing speed, the sort of courses you play on, weather conditions and the like. And of course what you like the feel of. But of late- if you do not go for the top of the range tour balls (like the pro v1), good value options to look at and try out include taylor made tour response, vice pro zero, srixon q star tour 4. These days i am using the tm tour response as i find it wn optimal ball for me in most weather conditions and with a good balance of ball speed (and thus distance) and yet enough spin for around the greens and short wedge or chip shots.

Nice. This is the 2021 models, correct? Any idea how last year’s ProV1 and ProV1x compare in the real world vs what’s being marketed by Titleist? How much of a difference is there really?

I played the TruFeel last season and if you want to play one ball but are on budget, this is the one you should look at - 30 balls for the price of dozen Pro V1. This year I hit the jackpot and won a years supply of Pro V1 so happy days. Been playing Pro V1 prior to that but often been hitting cheaper balls during practice rounds which deflects the purpose of consistency. Nothing worse than hitting Pro V1s OB or into water unless you really don‘t care for money 🤑

thanks for watching! The TruFeel is definitely a solid budget option based on our test. But congrats on a year supply of Pro V1s...that'll do!

My buddy plays the nitro orange balls from Walmart, $5 a dozen. I’ve never hit one but I told him there’s no way that it plays the same as a ProV1. Now I understand that I’m not a professional golfer but when I hit greens from 70 chips to 200 yards full swings, my balls usually stick and hold very well with minimal rollout after the 180 yard mark. I doubt his ball could do that. There are many great balls to play but if you’re not compressing it correctly, it will never do what you need it to anyways. He doesn’t understand how to do that yet so I understand his thought process that all balls are the same. I told him you wouldn’t shoot a regular bullet out of a match grade rifle would you? You’d wanna use the best ammo you can afford for the best performance

Any reason someone would pay the extra money for the AVX when the Tour Soft seems to beat it in every way?

This test only tested wedge shots. The extra layers in the premium golf balls allows them to be better optimized for all the clubs in your bag. The AVX will perform better off the driver then the tour soft because they are able to optimize it for low spin off the driver and other long clubs. Each layer reacts at different compression so they have more options to tweak the flight of the ball with more layers.

I'm looking at things like carry and total distance, peak height and landing angle.. and I don't see much difference between the two tests, they all had some roll out despite spin rate, which tells me that the true difference would depend on the green you're pitching into, otherwise I realize I can save a bunch of money and buy the cheaper Titleist balls and still have good results. I guess I'd have to see the comparison of these with Driver and Iron shots too just to know if I want to play that ball all the way through.

thought the same as you Chris- given they all go same distance 105 to 107 yds, the only real difference is spin rate so would now like to see the same test on the course where we can really see how much difference the spin of 9535 is vs 9001 vs 8178 rates really mean on the green. Q will a club golfer really see a significant difference with 500 rpm ie tru feel 9001 vs pro v1 9535 - I very much doubt it. certainly tru soft is as good as AVX. I play a lot of seaside courses where most of the chips are bump and runs along ground with 7,& 8 irons , so spin rate means bugger all, will save money and play tru soft or velocity

Can you do this exact same test with Driver??

Thanks for watching!! In terms of long game, the Pro V1x is designed to spin more and feel firmer. If you were to hit shorter wedge shots, you'd get pretty comparable spin numbers between the Pro V1 and Pro V1x

I would love to see this same test with 100mph driver swing speed. Could you also explain why someone would choose the AVX in lieu of the lower end ball with similar numbers. Thanks.

Because they either like the soft feel of the AVX, OR they got sucked in by the marketing hype. Very rarely will a cheap ball perform EXACTLY the same as a premium ball. The subtle differences can add up once you consider pros and cons of each different ball.

@@jeaniewolfe6693 my club fitter recommended the AVX to lower my driver spin. I typically played ProV1. I also had recently bought 4 dozen tour soft because I found them at Academy Sports for $5 per dozen. Should I return the AVX my fitter recommended?

Thomas i honestly can't split the srixon soft feel, Titleist tru feel, Titleist tour soft and Titleist tour speed. I played the pro v and avx and got no better results from these at all hence i don't play tour level balls

What's funny is that the greatest difference in spin between AVX (abt 9000) vs. ProV1x (about 9800) amounted to about 18 inches of roll out. Meh.
