Ultimate Sleeper! This K24 TURBO Civic Hybrid is DAILY DRIVEN
By Aaron Gaghagen and Brian Gillespie
The term hybrid has had a bad rap ever since the emergence of the appliance known as the Toyota Poopis, uh I meant Prius. But back in the day hybrid had a different meaning. It was the thing that made Honda rise above all other Japanese imports. A hybrid was a car that had a more powerful engine from another more expensive car. In most cases it was a B series into a Civic from the Golden Era. Our buddy Ryan has brought this old school concept into the modern times with his Hybrid Civic packing more ponies than the rest.

    I know we're here for details about the engine swap, but boy do I love to see an HID projector retrofit! As soon as I bought my 2002 coupé I had to retrofit the Mini H1 projectors in it so I could actually see well at night without blinding everyone else. I miss that car and wish I hadn't have crashed it 3 months after buying it. This man knows quality nighttime illumination! Cheers!

    That would be interesting for sure, but if you just want a K series powered 8th gen, you might be better off getting an 8th gen Si. That would save you so much time, work, and probably money and also get you the upgraded suspension, upgraded brakes, chassis bracing, seats, etc. Also, if you ever decide to sell it, an Si will be much easier to sell for decent money than a swapped hybrid. I'm not at all saying to not swap a hybrid if that's what you want to do, just some things to think about👍

    Will 7th-gens start to get cool in the Honda world? People seem to avoid them like the plague (apart from the DC5s and EP3s), it's always "EG this" and "EK that". 🤔 I think you didn't get the 5-door EU3 Civic hatch in North America, I'm not sure it's much of a looker either, but maybe people will come round it as a "cool Honda" in time?

  • @jamesbagguley868

    @jamesbagguley868

    6 ай бұрын

    I had an EV1 5 door, I think the facelift model looked pretty decent with a 20-30mm drop and 17" wheels. Unfortunately, the 7th gen over all has the suspension and steering geometry woes that immediately see it classed as inferior to other generations.

    @@jamesbagguley868 "Unfortunately, the 7th gen over all has the suspension and steering geometry woes that immediately see it classed as inferior to other generations." Yeah, I'm well familiar with that! There still seems to love for the DC5 & EP3 anyway though. I had a DC5 (the Australian version of the Type R, which is in-between a JDM Type R and RSX Type S: K20A2 engine, Type S suspension & brakes but LSD gearbox & Type R interior & exterior) and I did not like how it handled at all compared to an EG on the one hand (which handles just plain better IMO) or compared to an 8th-gen on the other hand (still strut suspension in a bigger, heavier car than the EG but *way* more predictable and confidence-inspiring IMO). It had a K24, and it was OK up to about 7-tenths, but anymore than that and it would try to do things like steer you clean off the road if you happened to hit a bump while accelerating! It was lowered, I tried inverted tie-rod ends, raising it back to stock ride height, getting rid of the inverted tie-rod ends, putting on the SHG Delrin steering rack slider -- nothing made it significantly better.

  • @jamesbagguley868

    @jamesbagguley868

    6 ай бұрын

    Yeah, that whole "dynamic toe" steering rack position was a killer. People more knowledgable than myself said lack of suspension travel in the rear was also pretty damning for the platform. Sounds like you made the most of your DC5, handsome cars and a K24 and LSD certainly would do no harm! Didn't do the rack riser or inverted rod ends myself, had extended ball joints caster plates and caster bushings - some improvement for sure - but interested to go back from the current FN2 now and see how things stack up... Got the old coilies etc. and a J35 for extra understeer 😅 Some lovely @Hasport mounts would be a nice addition 😋

    Thats what is all about passion, patience and a few good friends with knowledge to make ones daily feel like a beast. Unfortunately I have not found good help or knowledge for my project. 2010 Pilot M90 supercharger build with all the parts sitting around for a green light. Problem is Ktuner v1.2 with their very limited tuning options for boost. Funny thing is they do have full support for V6 Accord, MDX and Ridgeline. Not Pilot though because its a whole different species. I asked around well known tuners in the webs to no avail. Best I got was a straight up "no thanks" like I was asking a Honda tuner to help with a European diesel tractor. Now I am researching on the net for Pilot compatible v8 MAF and housing options to scale in Ktuner. Hoping it can read the boost and idle properly since no support to go MAP on Ktuner support for pilot. I also looked at CTR MAF500 from Hondata but I am sure they wont just let me borrow it to see if it'll work let alone provide the scaling for it. I am also exploring Winols to sniff out any useful possible tables. Not an expert by any stretch. Any knowledgeable folks at VA or subscribers can chime in for helpful pointers. Thank you!
