I grew up in an area that had monsoon season. Even outside of that season we would get terrible tropical storms. I've started building a go bag with an old backpack. I've seen a lot of males do these types of videos so I'm glad to stumble upon a video from a woman who has experienced evacuation. Thank you for your suggestions!!

Not sure where you live but I have been in Southeast Asia during monsoon season and it could be pretty terrifying! As a matter fact whenever I’m in that situation I carry pretty much a go bag with me everywhere. You are my sister from another mother!!!! You think exactly the way I do as far as safety, what to carry, and its better to be a little over prepared then not being prepared at all. My family and I went through 3 hurricanes in a row that hit Florida before Katrina hit New Orleans. But I will tell you we had a the best meals ever!!!! We would invite our neighbors and they wanted to stay with us because they were not prepared and all they had was sodas and crackers. I also have an external hard drive w/ my family photos. A Duplicate set of your keys. Lastly prepare an evacuation bag & carriers for your pets! Pics of ALL of your stuff for insurance claims!!! Duplicates of Whatever valuables you might lose in a disaster, are also absolutely invaluable. Great idea to do a trial run yearly! Your side by side bag is an invaluable addition to any bug out bag! Love this video. I have always had a go-bag. I have a flash drive with copies of titles, cash sale seeds and any other important documents and papers plus an external hard drive with all my photos and videos. My husband and son always made fun of me for having a go-bag but when my son became an adult, he made a go-bag. When a construction site across from his apartment blew up and they had to evacuate quickly, he grabbed his wife, pets and go-bag. He told me he learned from me to be prepared. Made my day that he and his wife were safe and were able to get out quickly thanks to his go-bag.

I've also got a go-bag set up for our animals. We aren't leaving without then so we have rolling go bag and a carrier with a trolly to put over it. (Both can become backpacks if necessary). If including pets in your exit strategy (you should, they're your family) remember food, harness, photos (actual photos in case they go missing and there's no internet), blankets, and toys to keep them calm. From experience, taking care of little animals sometimes is all the distraction you need to keep you focused on the task at hand and not the mayhem of the moment.

I also think it’s important to be prepared in your car for when you’re not at home and that happened to me once and that was the only lesson I needed to be prepared in my car as well! Hurricanes, flooding, and tsunami's were a the main threats where I grew up. I remember blackouts, boiling water, using candles and flashlights, taping/boarding up windows, school drills, and leaving home to find higher ground and safe centers. As a child, I thought it was kind of fun. Now I realize that having to bug in or out is a stressful situation. I started seriously prepping when I was gathering items for my son's college emergency bag just before the pandemic. You can imagine a lot of scenarios when you're separated from your family and home. It's tough to outfit a family and have contingencies, but it's a work in progress. I stumbled upon your channel while watching a mix of travel, emergency/survival videos, and backpacking videos. I LOVE discovering cool and useful gear, making kits, and having backups! All the Side by Side items are great for travel, edc, outdoor activities, and emergency kits! You are savvy, spot on, and thorough! Thank you for your informative and resourceful content.

Thank you so very much! I think the kid we always think those kind of things are kind of like camping but as an adult we realize it is a survival situation. I think we also realize that whatever we have on our back maybe all that’s left of our life as we knew it. So that’s why we want to pack and play in carefully and not just be in a panic and throw things into a bag that are useless. I am so glad that you found my channel and that you’re finding this Content useful. Good luck in the giveaway!

I really appreciate how practical your gear list is. I think it's much more in line with the kind of emergency most people are likely to encounter. I used to work in a shelter and there's a lot of small things people don't think of that can really change your experience. One thing I would suggest you add is disposable gloves. I like latex because they fit better and don't come with irritating powder. They are great for all kinds of things you might not think of, not just first aid. cooking (at home or camping), cleaning, changing your tire... they work better than hand sanitizer.

You've mentioned that magnifying lens a few times in a few videos as an aid to reading. Well, yes, it can be, but it's a Fresnel lens, the point of which (for preppers, survivalists, etc) is to focus the sun to start a fire. It's a compact alternative to a convex lens. If you'll notice, there is a roundish design in the middle. Take it outside and let the shine through it, then move it around til you get the narrowest stream of light coming through the middle and shine that point on a piece of paper or dry leaves, etc, and it will catch fire. :) But be careful not to let it angle up to your eyes, obviously.

When we tried to go back to get more, we were not able to get to our house but at least we were able to get some things out. In the end, we were lucky that our house did not burn down that many left their house with a backpack and that’s all that they had left of their lives.🙏

Ever since I discovered this channel, I eagerly await the new videos. I’ve been setting 2023 goals and want to go solo camping. I can think of numerous uses for the side by side travel kit. I already keep an emergency backpack in my car, so I would add the Side by Side kit to that to stash an extra credit card, money , and prescriptions. One of the items I keep in my car backpack is an emergency battlefield grade tourniquet. Actually I have a couple of these in the car. I was the first citizen responder to a fatal car accident several years ago. Although a tourniquet would not have made a difference that day since the COD was blunt trauma. I added them to my emergency kit. I also keep a fire extinguisher in my vehicle. Emergency triangles are important, too. The accident was on the Interstate, and sent truck drivers down the road with theirs to get traffic to move over to keep us safe and to clear a path for EMS. I also keep a sticker on my back window indicating I have an extinguisher and first aid kit.

And I’m also very happy that you’re updating that hurricane box so that you can be comfortable and secure for at least three weeks maybe even longer! We’ve since gotten a generator but we’ve also been evacuated due to forest fires for six weeks and that teaches a lot of lessons! I love all your suggestions, esp. the RFID document bag, the use of powdered peanut butter instead of a jar of it, vacuum sealed toilet paper, toothpaste tabs, and that cool collapsible LED light. I live in the Northeast where snow storms are the more likely scenario for a natural weather event that will take out power, and I have been preparing go bags and emergency shelter-in-place supplies since the pandemic began. Do you have another separate bag for MRE meals that you also take with you? The one thing that I have also included in my emergency go bag is a small 5x7 flexible photo album I bought at the Dollar Tree store containing photos of every family member with a hair clipping of their hair taped to the back for DNA identification, as well as their social security numbers in case FEMA or Homeland Security requires that info to put into a missing person database in the event of a natural or manmade disaster that may separate family members from each other. Now that I think of it, I should also probably add identifying locations on the back of each person’s photos of thing of like moles, scars or tatoos.

Hi Pam, thank you so much! I think that’s another great idea is to have physical photos of family members. Are use my passport as my ID rather than my Social Security card. My passport links me to my Social Security card it has my photo in it. I do think it’s a great idea to have photos of family members so that if you are separated you can show people images in case your phone is broken or lost. The DNA samples with hair would be a good idea also. since you live in the Northeast you may have to up your game with weather gear. I lived in the Northeast for 16 years and I know it can get pretty cold up there for many months of the year. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

I must admit, when I first saw your posts, I was very cynical and made a few snarky comments. Although I may disagree with you on a few things, I must say that I am suitably impressed by your organizational skills. God bless your cotton socks.

Thank you so much🙏😊 I think part of this post is to plant the seed in peoples heads that having a go bag is a good thing to have even though you may never need it. I think of a kind of like house, insurance or car insurance. You don’t want it but you’re certainly happy when you have it when you need it.. we didn’t think we would need it two years ago when we were evacuated from our home because of a fire. We were very lucky and that we had relatives in the area and couldn’t get back down to my home here in the bay area but they were many people who were sleeping in Walmart parking lots and when they got back home whatever they had that backpack with all they had left of their lives so although many these things may not be for everyone, just thinking about your situation & what you would need for you your family, your children, or your pets to just be able to survive a few days if necessary can’t be a bad thing. I truly appreciate your feedback🙏

Yes! Always start with what you have on hand and then modify your bag occasionally to make sure that you have what you need to make you safe and comfortable. You don’t need anything expensive you just need to think about what you actually need. Old hiking clothes, old water bottles, save your prescription medication bottles to hold vitamins and other medication‘s. Just be resourceful. 😀

Firstly, would love to get insight on your first aid kit in a future video. Loved all this foresight in your emergency bag, discovered useful things I'm lacking. The side by side giveaway is very useful, I especially like the waterproof, RFID travel pouch to have on the go travel for the extra protection against water & thieves, it goes way above just a place to stash cash & personal documents with the added protection. Always good to have a dry bag for the extra goodies you can't live without that you don't want water to get into. These items you are giving away are all much needed items for a traveler or in an emergency so you have extra peace of mind you are outfitted with essentials. Thank you for thinking about your viewers safety & protection, how thoughtful of you. Very good content in your videos that I always enjoy learning from you. When my son moved out of state, I created a couple of packs for emergencies for him & us so we are all prepared. I now see a few things were missed so I will be on the hunt to get those items. Thanks again for sharing!🤗

I think to that document holder I’d add a printed list of all important phone numbers, addresses, and insurance contact info in case something happens to your cell phone. You had me pausing throughout the video to look up items that seem like a great idea but have not yet made it to my go bag. Also for me an inflatable camp pillow. Thanks Eunice for another great video!

Hi Kim, yes! A laminated paper with some contact information, allergies, medication, medical information that sort of thing just in case or digital devices cannot be accessed or are broken or lost! Sometimes it’s hard for us to remember the back of the old days that we used to do because we didn’t have cell phones!

Thank you for covering this very important topic! I had a rude awakening during hurricane Katrina. Living 300 miles inland we thought sure, we can weather whatever comes. Power outages, gas shortages, down trees just to name a few!! We were lucky the four large pine trees that fell around our house fell away for our house. Some or our neighbors were not so lucky. I would love to use the side by side in my emergency pack!

Thank you so much for your comment! I think a lot of people think that they’re not gonna be in harms way because they don’t live near a coast with hurricanes and flooding or earthquake areas. The very first earthquake I ever felt in my life was when I lived in Ohio. So happy you want to get some extra things for your go bag and wishing you the best of luck in the giveaway!
