    Stew! You GOTTA upgrade your antennas on the goggles! DJI intentionally installed subpar antennas so they could pass certification for the goggles transmit power levels. ANY LHCP antenna is going to be an upgrade, but if you're going to push range, you really need to put patch antennas on there, like the TrueRC Singularities. They will easily double your range to about 6km! On top of that, do the 1,200mW hack, and now your range is increased 31% !

  • @mongranperspective4809

    Hi, Im just getting into long range, is there a reason you say LHCP instead of RHCP? All my FPV gear is RHCP and would rather not change to LHCP if it isn't crucial. TIA

  • @protonus

    @protonus

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@trevorc6793 The DJI HD FPV system uses LHCP out of the box, so if you want to change to RHCP, you need to change all 6 antennas, 4 on the goggles, 2 on the air unit. Changing the goggle antennas is much more important than the air unit ones. The other thing is most people fly RHCP, so if you leave it LHCP you will likely get less interference from those still flying RHCP on analog etc. So most are staying with LHCP on DJI, and just upgrading the 4 goggle antennas, and only changing air unit antennas as needed. As far as literal range, there is no difference if no sources of competing interference are present.

    @@protonus Thank you. I don't have the DJI system so that's were the confusion is! Saying that, it sounds like a good idea to go LHCP with my 5.8ghz for my long range flight though.

    I absolutely love vids like this, documenting things not going totally to plan. It's great because this is how flying often goes, but man is it a thrill! And it's fun to take that thrill ride without our own money soaring in the distance lol. Great stuff as always guys! Also: just wanna add.. if it makes you feel better, we do have thorns that size here in the U.S. They tend to wrap around the base of trees and some bushes and end up hogging the nutrients enough that it kills the tree/bush. The problem is that since they wrap into non-thorny plants, they're easy to not notice until you stick yourself with one. I stuck one in the back of my head when I was little actually lol. They burn for DAYS. I wish I knew what they were called... I live in the midwest if someone knows plant life better than me that may help lol.

    When your gut tells you that you should do it (multiple transmitters), then you have a sign from the RC gods that says to stop (spiral takeoff), and you go anyway its always going to end bad. DJi runs on 5.8 and is both a transmitter and receiver and you had a 5.8 vtx which is no good. You launch a wing at full throttle and a sidearm throw and it torque rolls with that big prop.

    So I flew drones in the military. Analog and digital both have strong points but one thing with analog vs digital is signal. Analog does not rely on the whole signal like digital does. The drone I flew was analog and we rarely if any lost signal where as the newer digital drones lost signal all the time! Digital relys on the whole signal.

    He lost signal because the DJI system can't be so closely located to an analog VTX that's transmitting on 5.8 GHz. This was a bad idea from the start. On top of that he's using the stock antennas which were intentionally bad so DJI could pass RF certification for the measured transmit power of the goggles. The very first thing anyone should do with this system is upgrade the goggle antennas as such, good omni's will add 50% more range and bandwidth, and good patch antennas will double range and bandwidth. Lastly, there is a 1,200 mW mode now if you look for "naco_pwr.txt" which is what you really ought to be using if you're sending to max range. With patch antennas and 1,200 mW you can easily do 7+ km on this system.

    Expected a litlle more than “I accidentally turned off the DVR”. Give your content some more effort man! If you make a video comparing two systems and you accidentally don’t do that it’s misleading and should be redone! That’s the minimum expectation🙏🏻
