You do so much for fpv from noobs like me trying to get started,to advanced pilots. Dji should really have gifted you a set for review
took out my 7 " today with the DJI installed. so ...for all those saying they will wait because it will get better smaller cheaper …..sure it will ! That's LIFE ! but when is it "good enough" ? when is the range far enough ?? etc etc etc I am retired and fly FPV EVERY DAY and I want every morsel of beautiful video experience NOW !!!! I am not waiting for "someday" ...I purchased extra AirModule/cameras and I will slowly convert over / build a small quiver of HD Kwads. I have been dreaming of converting a Mavic Pro to acro capability and fly out 30 minutes ...with return to home capability. we are close ! oh so close ...these are great times to be into FPV !!!!!!!

You're not the only person that's thought of a mavic pro with the agility of an acro fpv quad!! Even if it dropped those 28 minute flight times down to 12 mins to compensate for the extra performance.. Would still be a huge leap!
"I can see the power lines" ,..... yep. That's something I noticed quickly with mine. It's not so much what you can see up close. It's how clear everything is far out. Funny story: When my mom got her first set of glasses, she exclaimed to her mom, "There's lines between the poles!"
This might be some of your best work. Your testing is fantastic and your honesty is refreshing. I love the monologue at the end. I’m with you this is changing the hobby in a great way. Keep up the awesome work.
I’m so relieved. That was EXACTLY the same as my experience. JB: “It isn’t as good at analog down this road I never fly anyway.” But EVERYWHERE else it’s like flying with a freaking GoPro and half my review was say WOW. But that is just what it’s like. I’m glad you tried them on the same quad at the same time. I thought about it but just figured it would blast each other so I built the one that as you mentioned probably made someone die inside. We see you fly all the time in the same spot. That is what most of us do. And if you fly and it looks good with analog will look amazing with this.
Definitely my favorite & go to channel for FPV, i really appreciate the live Q&A sessions & especially all the helpful videos your channel offers. It shows that your passionate and genuinely care about your audience and subscribers. love the content you create mate. 👍👍
I saw the emotion behind your experience and Its making me want to go buy it.. If I pull the trigger I'm using your links. Looking forward for your future tests on it.

"I dont have RSSI !!!!!!" "Its Crossfire, it'll be fine" Also, you know what doesnt interfere with Crossfire? TrueD-X 2.4 Ghz.
I agree with you on having to trying them out. Drew came home to Detroit and let me try it out. Flying fpv in Hd is crazy i could see everything in such detail . I love it! It's Progress ! Thanks for the Review !
Great video. I think you nailed my gut feeling @13:25, nobody has years of experience flying a digital system with variable latency, whereas all the reviewers have had years to lean how to fly through the analogue limitations.
I love this review. You covered the issues that you actively experienced using it, and slowed down to demonstrate it. After watching five other review videos, you were the only person who gave me the insight to know that this system will work for me in the conditions I'm actually going to use it in :)
I really enjoyed this video. The laid back, thinking out loud, Joshua Bardwell was very insightful. Thank you for doing this test and thank you for all your help through the years!
That was a really good convo. would love to see an updated talk. i heard they ironed out the change in latency on the DJI.
Thanks for the information. I'm looking forward to the next video in this system.
It’s an exciting time in the hobby. Thanks for the test!
Can you test the goggles with a clearview to see how well it works? Im interested in buying the DJI system but want to make sure I can fly my quads that don't have the air unit in them with the DJI goggles. thx
Hey josh been a fan for a while. I have to say thanks. Just for the honest opinion. Love the honesty in your vids, and will of course be waiting for more. Again m8 thanks.
You did great! no confusion, HD dji, it has its place, and its time. Thanks for all your work!
Great video! It’s a nice comparison to have. This new system is pretty exciting, gonna be keeping an eye on it!
That internal conflict monolog with the 5 seconds latency flux bit. That really gave me a good idea off the feeling of flying the digital system vs analog! Thank you !
Looks so good. Also I'm jealous of your property and surroundings. Beautiful country
Well done!
I think your review truly hit the topic right in the gut. The ability to have real time, fair weather hd is incredibly up there, game changing! But there are practical limitations to ones full adoption of it *in certain niches* . And again, the changing latency can be a critical crutch in high proximity, tight areas where any change is fatal to the kwad. That being said, imagine this on a flying wing! Or high altitude cruiser!
YAY I feel like you're finally starting to understand my viewpoint on FPV and analog quads, and it makes me feel like i'm not alone, lol. I've been flying a Phantom 4 for medium distance cruising/exploring with the Goggles RE (that I love, even though you didn't) - and flying in HD FPV with full 2 axis head tracking - being able to look around with the goggles and see in any direction you point your head, is so surreal, you start to forget you're flying R/C ! Same thing when I fly my airplanes and wings with Occusync Air. To go from that experience, to flying a Tiny Whoop with a 25mW VTW in analog is... jarring! It feels ... antiquated. Limited. Until I start flying my Tiny Whoop through dining room chairs and things like that. Then I remember the feeling of being miniature. And it's OK again. But to fly an analog 5"? Well, the 5" felt like it had neither of those aspects. This new system could get me interested in flying 5" again. Too bad I can't use my Goggles RE with it and save a ton of money...
This is what I wanted to see. Great test! Next time, get some altitude and go a mile out over those hills!
Review from you is always reliable, thanks you JB.
been waiting on this review this system looks good but im going to wait for more systems to come out. Thanks for a straight up review again
Thanks for video, very useful. I watched many videos of test about DJI FPV and I'm suprised that no one tried to change with other LHCP antennas....For sure, it should affect latency with some patch antennas. It will be useful to try it and know the result, I guess.
I’m just glad it’s finally here it can only get better.
first few seconds in the vid and i already know why this video will be awesome: the sparks in your eyes. when you find something to spark your curiosity, what better cause could there be for a video? great, excited to watch on now ;)
Another great and insightful look at a new product. Thanks Joshua! I look at it this way, as good as the gen 1 looks, imagine what gen 2 or even 3 will perform like. I'll hold out for the later gens.

Gen V2 - one step back :D
Thanks for the vid! I started in this hobby this week with the DJI system and all your videos have been so helpful! One question - did you have the DJI HDL mode enabled? Apparently that drops the latency to 7ms, but you need firmware for it that isn’t released yet, I can’t find it. The other guy from rotor riot with the eyeliner got it working. I wonder if that will help with your range issues?
Thank you Joshua for this test!
HAHA, I'm as excited as you JB XD. Love this!

Rock on JB. Awesome setup! 😆🔊👊👍🙋😉
Joshua, first of all, thanks for the video! Can you try to figure out a way to put a patch on the DJI goggles for the next video and see if that has any affect on the road distance test?
Hay JB, I notice you had Focus mode off, have you done the same test with it on to see how it pushes the bitrate to the centre, this test is ideal for this feature.
Thanks fo sharing Joshua! Wondering if you can install both omni + directional antenna on the DJI goggles to improve the latency issues at long range?
Thank you very much. Could you strap your two systems to a bicycle and try your side by side comparison again? Stingerswarm told about screen freezes and dropped frames. That might be a better way to visualize it. Or maybe go to a complex bando and try to fly the same line several times on both systems? Anyways thanks again and keep your good work up. I like the ambiguity, I think it adds credibility to your opinion.
U the man bro...i learn so much from u its crazy...i told u i watch u everyday and i have learned so much from u...thank u bro for teachin me about fpv 💪💪💯
Some well thought of points in real world experience. Thanks JB... 👍
About to watch this. Pretty sure this is going to be the best review of the dji system!
Excellent! Thanks for the information!
great testing !
This is the first time I think I saw the real down to earth Jos. Well done
Ooh, I'm excited how it will go.^^
Cool test. Very educational Joshua. Cheers :)
thanks for that josh. it would be interesting to see a video of the dji system performing while doing freestyle around a concrete jungle just to see if the latency does leave you in the lurch or not... or did you already do a video of that?
I just activated my DJI unit.. in the survey I went ahead and mentioned you as the influencer
Hi Joshua, I wondering about how the reliability of the digital vs analog system is. I have a dji camera drone and very seldom (one a month) it produces complete connection loss even on short distance (100 meters). On camera drone this is no issue because until the image signal comes back I just let it hover. For fpv this is something you can’t simply do. Do you know of this is already addressed for digital dji fpv?
I fitted DJI FPV to my Source One and took it out to the local track. The frequencies don't match regular FPV so I flew between races. It's not clear to me which raceband frequencies impact which DJI frequencies. Unlike analogue where you get ghosts and interference, if someone plugs in on an overlapping or nearby frequency you get a complete video freeze, and lose control because the controller is on the same 5.8GHz video frequency. In one case my quad spun inverted into the ground at full power unrelated to control inputs, and the disarm took a second or two to respond. That loss of control could be really dangerous, not to mention digging unnecessary holes into the ground. None of the above is unexpected after reading about the system, and I absolutely LOVE the quality of the video. My experience did however confirm for me that the DJI system is not yet practical near a normal race track. Even if compatible frequencies can be worked out, it might be worth sticking with crossfire for the controller, so you can push through a second or two of bad video without the drone going mental, and you can disarm it if it does. I am totally happy with the system. The video quality is truly amazing and really helped my flying, and I'll be saving that for freestyle until the frequency overlap problems are resolved. This is new technology and DJI are pushing regular updates, so this amazing system is only going to get better. For racing though I'll stick with my Crossfire and Unify VTXs.
I'm Excited! Nice one. Not yet into FPV but when I am I'd love DJI's System. Wouldn't you use Focus mode if flying amongst Trees and out of LOS? Thought that's what Focus Mode was for. Will antenna mode follow?
Please test the FOV with them in 4:3 vs 16:9. I get that 16:9 is cropped but I feel like i'd personally prefer the immersion of widescreen to a slightly increased vertical FOV, depending on how bad it is.
The ratchet analogy is perfect and I think what you said about how you'll feel emotionally is a good point. Thanks I learned something today 😉
Please investigate if directional receiver antennas (like the x-air2) will have an impact on the range/penetration of the digital system. I would test this if I had LHCP/RP-SMA antennas laying around. Also curious to know how the 4 antennas work on the goggles. Are they all receiving antennas or 2 transmit 2 receive? Thanks for the video Mr. B.
thank you. WHEN do you believe digital will be common and cheap.?
Any chance of you doing an updated 2021 version of this video? My idea is to use the dji goggles with the bdi digiadapter and all the videos I’ve seen talk about latency and range but they’re older video. So I guess, in today’s climate, 2021 almost 2022, is that a viable solution? I want to get some digital drones in the future but there are other ones that only come with an analog vtx(tiny hawk 2 freestyle for starters). I really just don’t want to have to buy 2 sets of goggles because I’m already double buying everything because my wife is accompanying me on the FPV journey. I’m not worried about the price, just hungry for information. TIA.
Bravo JB loved the honest reactions bro
Hi josh so will the system fit in a 5” quad as with poor hand function i used to hate break up on my quad which I couldn’t get passed my confident level so that’s why I bought a mavic pro n goggles so would you say it would be beneficial to get it so I’m more comfortable with my other quad and sell my fat sharks taranis so it’s more easier for me to tune as I only fly on my own now??
its a really hard comparison. because even though you can go farther on analog i rather go half the distance maybe even 25% of the difference in HD. To me i would be fine having an analog rig and an HD rig. Your not going to drop your gear anyway since you need it for whoops and micros. Why worry about whats better when you can just have both. Its like choosing between a 5" and a micro, why not just both. If you can only afford one i think you should still go analog especially for new pilots who tend to have heavy crashes that could potentially damage the HD system that we dont know about yet.
I'd love to see this on a plane where you see how far you can go at a reasonably high altitude vs. following the terrain and compared against a decent analog system.
I gotta say, the footage looks fucking fantastic when the signal is strong. The detail in the trees and clouds is phenomenal.
We can see clearly in your video Joshua :-) DJI digital system for racing drones is a point of change in the hobby. I guess very soon everybody will race using digital.
this was my favorite video i have seen of yours to date... that last part made me lough my ass off. you expressed my exact feelings on the subject. really want to find someone who has one of these so i can fly it.. but then again if i do i will buy it so i might as well buy it.... maybe ;-) ... anyway when i do buy it and you know i am i will make sure and link you in for the credit. thanks for your great videos.
Joshua, what antenna setup did you have on the rapidfire? Was there a patch on there? If so, was the patch oriented towards the quad?
You're totally right. After putting about 40 packs through mine, I'm not wanting to fly analog nearly as much as I want to fly the DJI system!

do you ever feel held back by the 'higher' latency of the DJI Digital FPV? Do you feel like the DJI Controller holds you back at all? I heard the sticks feel loose.
Bought mine on release day as well. I have no regrets! I’m up in NH (similar countryside) and the HD truly is like flying again for the first time. I actually like how we have access to the latency and mbps on the DJI system. If I see the latency jump I just know to rope in any quick movements I might make.

I'm tempted to buy one. If you get a chance (and you want to) maybe you could post some video from your system?
Josh, so glad to hear your thoughts on the DJI unit! Better vision is certainly in the future of FPV. I have had that same "flying like a bird" experience with my Connex Falcore & the Vuzix 1080p goggles - amazing to fly with! and face it, analog feeds suck, digital video could easily become a strong contender for our current methods and I hope it happens soon.
love your vids Joshua, I almost bought this thing but glad I didnt. Glad because I knew I would fall in love with clarity then fall in a rutt . High end coffee example is spot on.
Is it still same on V2 system on DJI? And How about if we mount an anolog receiver unit on DJI v2? Is it also cause delay on analog video? I'm stuck in between buying a HDO2 and DJI v2 with analog unit, and I'm not sure how much video delay I'll have on DJI setup.
...how does it compare to skyzone's 3d setup with regard to realism (presence)? thx excellent vid
What if the air unit is on top and the vtx is under the quad? Or would it not make a difference
That is so amazing. Now I just gotta wait 10 years for it to come down to my price range.
First release, it will only get better. Very impressed!
This looks great but I'm really excited for the Fat Shark release because I wanna use my current FPV gear if possible!
Yo JB how possible could it be for a digital system to have analog for breakups as far as longer range? Like instead of a lagg or the skip in frames, the system could just switch to analog.... Maybe that could get rid of the screen lagging.
Okay somethin I guess I just don't understand is if both the digital and anolog video are running on the same 5.8ghz frequency and at basicly same power output which one will deal with penatration better or are they the same ? Through buildings. Because that's the biggest problem with 5.8ghz. Once u try retrieving a signal through multiple buildings at low elevation your screwed.
Joshua! Why does my Bat Voltage and RSSI freeze in my OSD when I arm my qwad? Running an F7 StablePro FC...
A year or two back you were testing the DJI original HD goggles. Did you ever fly a Mavic Pro with those? I'm wondering how the image looks compared to the Mavic and original HD goggles. The dream was always to have the Mavic Image on my race and freestyle quads with no latency.
@JoshuaBardwell
4 жыл бұрын
The DJI RE goggles with Ocusync system had too much latency in my opinion. Good for a Mavic but no good for racing or freestyle.
This is really a great product. I tested it the day before yesterday, and the image effect is really good. The image is stable within 200 meters. But there's a problem. The fan doesn't seem to start on its own. There's fog.The heat is still very hot.
Joshua I have the EV200d goggles and a cord with a xt60 can I use 4s on ev200d or only 2s ? I love the DJI rig will have to wait a while ,wish dli would work with other componets. CHEERS ALL IS GOOD
Question... does it have quad audio to the goggles? I like to hear my motors. Thanks for the info and the vid, great job.
@JoshuaBardwell
4 жыл бұрын
It does not do that as far as I can tell.
This is the transition period like the horse & buggy , vcr & cd , carburetor & fuel injection , leaded gas & unleaded . Have both or wait . There will be improvements and obsolete items . Are the RE Goggles compatible with this new fpv system or only with the Occusync . Long time watcher & Thanks 🙏....
I havent tried the DJi fpv yet, but from the videos it seems to come down to what type of breakup you prefer. Visually i would prefer the dji. But the varrying latency could be annoying, but only if its at close range. Freestyle tends to happen at somewhat close range, 200-300 meters max, anything beyond is more crusing-style, so i'm not sure if the varrying latency really matters. For the analog+dji at the same time, you could try adding extension cables to the antennaes to avoid them interfering too much with each other.
Back again with a problem. When I change my vtx power to anything above 25 mw, I Lose my video feed and I can't find it on any channels. Anyone know why?
Have you tried using aftermarket antennas with the system yet?
Any updates on the Fatshark HD implementation? That's the one I'm waiting for as I may be able to fit it on a 3"

I just got into it. Love it so far. Think I need an upgrade lol
Josh, You are 120% correct on the addiction of flying FPV with this HD goggles and I'm 200% agreed with you that. I have two of the DJI Air units on my 5-inch quad now and let me tell you. I just don't want to put on my Fatshark with Rapidfire any more. That's is a big difference on my part that to just want to fly with HD goggles because like you said I can see every tiny object very clearly when I fly. That what makes me want to fly HD more. U da man, Josh!!
Nice, great vid, thanks.
Good video Josh. I'd really like to try this system in some of the places i fly. I do like box goggles, but i'm not willing to spend the money.
Can you do this test but more in a race setting?
Your videos are the best,
Can you put different antennas on the receiver? I would want to put a cross hair or helical but I have a feeling that might mess up whatever DJI is doing. Along with the frequencies being different.
@JoshuaBardwell
4 жыл бұрын
It uses a standard RP-SMA connector. The way the connector is recessed into the goggles might make installing some antennas difficult.
Thank you, Joshua, for a great breakdown and a very honest appraisal. I do believe this system might be successful in the USA but here in Europe it will be a very good expensive novelty. By this I mean the EU version will be hard limited to 25milliwatt, even for those of us with an exemption to run higher power. It maybe possible to bypass this restriction using a VPN when connected to the DJI Assistant but its an app expensive maybe. If you get the opportunity to do a test of the DJI system on 25milliwatts it will be of great benefit for those of us in the EU to see the real, or lack of, performance. Regards Nidge.
Thanks, really interesting. Being in 25mW limit territory though, I'd like to see your comparison at that!! ;-)
