Thanks for sharing all the great HK Street food to the people around the world in your channel and I hope more tourists to come and visit HK.

From what I understand, HK stopped issuing licenses for street food/carts and the ones that are left are the ones that are grandfathered in and once they give up the license, they will never be gotten again. I think that is why a lot of the used-to-be street food are now done in tiny stores and malls to kind of reflect that change.

The carts were unlicensed street vendors and when I was little you will sometimes see them running away from the cops. The license places are dai pai dongs (big license shops) which are the ones dying out as you say because you can’t pass it on or get new ones. Temple street in HK used to have a fair few of these cart vendors. Prob all gone now. Hard job and young people don’t want to do it.

I remember how when we were kids, we would also hover over the stall after school to build our own bag of noodles. The flavour is too good to explain, garlicky, savoury and also a hint of sweetness. Fond memories indeed

My sis and I used to get off elementary school by 6 PM and had to get curry fishball skewers, non spicy from a street cart. Lady would dip skewers into the sauces. None of this tripe! 😂 Enjoy HK! Eat more 大牌档 if they're still around or 茶餐厅to save some cash money.

I remember when I was young, I always go to visit a stall with wheels to buy a bowl of "oil" noodle with fish ball and pig skin~ and after school, I would rush out of the door where they are 6 or 7 food stalls on wheels waiting for me ! Fish ball, pig skin, friend fish meat in pepper and eggplant, soa milk and tofu "fa" , satay kewers, dragon whiskers candy, crunchy wafers wrap, egg pops (gai dan chai) and waffles with peanut butter jam and condensed milk and the lists goes on! I can have a feast with $1 dollar back in my ole ole days, LOL We just love snacks in our blood and fish ball, siu mai, fake shark's skin soup , gizzards, octopus in skewer, stinky tofu are my staple comofrt food! And the list goes on and on.......yummilicious! Makes me want to go to Fat Mamaa for some gizzards and Octopus later! Hope you enjoy to the max. The mall at Kwai Chung is sure interesting on how it turns out to be a snacks paradise but I still prefer to stand and eat on the street with sauces dripping all over!

Its so wonderful to see malls are still so lively over there, whereas malls in the netherlands, where I live are getting closed down more and more because of internet shopping being more popular. We also never really had that many streetfood options in malls. Unfortunately its not only the netherlands that has this happening, ive seen it all over Europe and seen multiple abandoned mall video's from the US as well and when I went to the Vancouver area in 2011, seen several malls there as well that were only still half occupied and open.😢

As a French, it blew my mind realizing the world "clientele" was a plural in English ! Very interesting street food adventure in HK, where Street food's no more on the street, it seems. As for the K... products, I think their formulas varies according to the country. Here in France, the types Amy shows would not be available in local supermarket though you can maybe find some in the big Asian groceries (the ones where Asian restaurants would buy their stuff). Personnaly, I would not recommend using the K.. chicken bouillon cubes from the super market for chinese cooking. great work
