The worst thing about your tutorial videos is that they didn't exist when I was learning to ride 10 years ago, great explanation video. New self taught riders have no idea how easy they have it with videos like these.

Love the little pamphlet. Tells me where I need to go next. Watching this video, I realized that Tommie spends a lot more time with beginners having one foot strapped in than my coaches did. Especially the J turns with only one foot strapped. I now need to go back and take a few hours just concentrating on those moves. I think in the long run it will be worth it

Fun fact: The term "goofy" when referring to foot position most likely came from surfer slang back in the surfing culture in the 50s and 60s. There's an old Disney cartoon with the character named Goofy riding a surfboard with his right foot forward so the surfers named the stance after him, and when those surfers started skateboarding the term started to spread to other boarding sports throughout the 70s and 80s.

Great explanation video! The only small detail i would change is that you should strap the other binding first, the one closer to your heels. You actually can ride fine enough withou strapping the small binding, but it's almost imposible to do it without the big one. So you should strap first the most important binding. It also secures the correct position of the foot. If you strap first the small one, you may out your heel a little off.

I just did about 9 days worth of snowboarding in Niseko in February. Very new to snowboarding. Took 2 full day classes to get me up to speed. Figured I am riding goofy. So all the very very basics, heel side, toe side, turns, etc. doing ok. but still not quite feeling the confidence to go faster. But what really drives me " crazy " is that I didn't watch your videos before hitting the slopes - really wished i did! Reason being, its very informative. And i need some tips please! when going down the mountain, i feel scared to lean 60% onto my leading foot ( right ) because i might just be going down too fast , and wipe out or legs chattering ( riding tall ) . I heard some riders say that on the mountain, speed is your friend, and you get the most control at 60-65%, something i am aiming for. Please advise! Thanks!

Your videos are awesome. I have started watching them in preparation for my first trip snow boarding. I am a classically trained dancer and love trying new athletic skills now that I don't dance anymore. I get super frustrated when someone can't break things down the way I was taught to dance. I was afraid this would be the case with snowboarding and then I found your channel. Thank you for making this accessible for us Type A newbies.

Just thinking out loud...that seems like a bad way to try to teach somebody, holding their hands like that. Am I right? I feel like it throws off their center of balance because they're naturally going to be leaning towards the other person. It's not like a bike where it helps to have someone help you balance.

@@AlexPastel Definitely. I assisted my gf by helping her up the first time or two. Just enough to not struggle when you first feel that slippery board beneath your feet. But once she's up, it's up to the rider to balance. After those couple first steps it's up to the baby bird to fly on their own! Well, fall a bunch first, haha
