Great content brother! Everything you said is on the spot! I have a 2013 CTH model, currently at 230000KM, still factory spec, no modifications whatsoever. I'm trying to be the first person known to get a Polo 6R GTi to 500000KM. So contrary to your advice, i'll be keeping it for a few more years :-D! Apart from Insurance, I'd also advise guys planning on getting this car to invest in a warranty service. Mine had a mechatronic replacement at 89000KM, that cost about R38 000, only R0 was from my pocket. I'm replacing the timing chain soon at 240000KM that is gonna be on me. The vehicle runs like brand new, no accidents, no damages. It also helps to be a very careful driver, have fun with your car, but respect the road at all times!!

Thanks! Appreciate your support! The CTH is the sweet spot for the 1.4TSI twincharged engine in terms of reliability. Thats truly amazing that your car has achieved such a high mileage and still going strong! I miss my Polo GTI 6R wish I could have kept it 😥 I hope you get many many more enjoyable years with the car. The 6R is a true hidden gem! One of the most enjoyable cars I have ever owned. I guess as long as you maintain it properly it should keep going. Also another point the only problem with aftermarket warranties is that they won't cover costs in full there is often a shortfall to cover out of pocket. When you replace your timing chain do the tensioners and guides as well, while you're in there. Let us know when you get to 500 000kms! 🤘

Sho Mr Kay🙌🏽, please keep me updated when you do go for the chain replacement, I also own a 2014 model and it’s just over 215K km, I’ve been the owner since day 1 and I promise you my car hasn’t given me any issues at all. Big ups to you 💯 I’ll also be joining you to reach that 500 000km goal

Well this one time it had an EPC light on, but it was just the wiring that had worn out, got it replaced free off charge at the dealership in Kroonstad. Other than that non at all

This video is on point... I now own my 3rd Polo GTI 6R and Ive experienced a number of issues mentioned in this video... My current version is the 2014... Its much better than the 12/13 I previously owned. Fuel consumption is surprising. Only issue Ive ever struggled with is on 12. The Pistons. On 13. The oil consumption. And on the current 14. I have oil consumption issues again... But with an oil catch installed... That kinda solves the issue. To add a little bit of power, Ive installed a DTE Powerbox Chip, Cold air intake and a downpipe... Pushes me 132kw to 162kw plus + with super quick acceleration. This car is just something else... Besides the issues, I love it... However... Installing FORGED pistons at some point solved many issues for me... You get to know it at some point so id recommend it any day... Just take time buying it as the man says. Nice Video

This car really doesn't get the credit it deserves. Trust me you will enjoy owning this car! It is a true hidden gem. Just make sure you find the right car one that has maintenence records and has been looked after.

You hit the nail on the head with this one. It's a lovely car, the fun factor is at least 7.5/10. I couldn't agree more with regard to keeping it for too long, the issues on this car are too much of a headache and really horrendous (from timing chains to pistons going) but take away all the negatives, and this car is honestly one of the best to drive, from power delivery to gear changes. I absolutely love mine, but won't be keeping it for too long either. If I may add another point for first-time buyers, do thorough research on this car before stepping into this platform, so you know what issues to look out for.

Yeah I also prefer the looks of the 6R to the 6C. Still one of my most joyous ownerships regardless of the problems. I really miss that car so often. I would say if you get one try and get a 2014. They are not so bad just get a aftermarket warranty and also put aside some money for repairs definitely worth it for the smile factor! For that supercharger whine 😁 I personally want to buy another one again in the future.

2013 is CTH, if its a CAV engine thats a 2011/12 car. Whatever you do, dont buy it! If you want this car CTH engine is the "most reliable".

Hi brother. I have 2014 6r gti. It misfires at times and flashes the engine light. What could be the problem? Replaced all plugs and coils and it stopped for a while, but it keeps coming back

Hey bro sorry to hear of your issues, I know it can be stressful. Had this happen with my car multiple times. Three times it was coils, once HPFP once it was the Air intake flap motor. A misfire can be caused by many different reasons. Since you have replaced the coils and spark plugs you can rule those out. Before you spend any money replacing things first get yourself and OBD2 reader like OBDeleven (a bit pricey but the better option) or ELM327 (not so great, though cheaper but it can do the job). Scan your car for codes to see if the ECU has stored any specific issues. Is your car using up a lot of oil? If so then it could be due to low compression. @@carcrazyguysa4059 True. Get the OBDeleven.. I owned a 2012 Model and it did the same... Ended up being a piston issue... Had a hole right through my Piston. Low compression, oil push up into intake alot... Had a smoking car all the time... Sucked... But I replaced all Pistons FORGED And sold it... Issue gone... Owner still has it happily ever after

Yes the 6C is more reliable but there were plenty of Lemon 6C's too. Also nothing beats that supercharger whine of the 6R. This coming from me who now owns the 2.0TSI AW GTI. 😅 I miss the 6R tbh.

Good question actually something I missed in the video. Insurance is quite steep, ofcourse it will vary from one person to the next but at the time I paid about R1700 per month. It is a Performance car so it will attract a high insurance premium because of the greater risk factor.

with that being said, i am not buying this car at all.
