brain burst is just so cool its why I use it even though its so scuffed. it should have multi target capabilities at least.

It's definitely cool and it can work, just that the ideal build is focused on Empowered Psionics tbh. The warp charge I forced on it is due to the penances which are based on warp charges (pre-update psyker). So yeaaaah, that's the only reason this is scuffed. Brain Rupture can be run with Empowered Psionics instead for something workable.

I'd rather give it a single target cc, like staggering your opponent while you channel on them. Both of the other spells have it in some capacity, and it would keep it focused on important single target picks. Plus your bursting their brain, that has to give one SPLITTING headache.

There needs to be a talent that lets you keep your right click charge and not lose it upon letting go of right click!

I wish brain burst was more viable. I basically came to the same conclusion as you testing pretty much the same way. Why run that when i can have the shards for hordes and the staff for HVTs. Brain burst needs to be made more viable, just give crazy single target dmg.

It’s one of the best builds for higher level content actually. It is just really focused on high damage single target. It isn’t a horde oriented skill.

@xxpostitxx4843 Brain Rupture? If so, I must disagree. All testing has shown that it fails. You don't need single target damage at Auric level. Voidstrike outclasses brain burst making your blitz a waste, you can literally shoot through multiple targets while dealing weakspot damage on the same level of brain burst. I consistently play Auric live on stream and I've tested it. No teams could play around it as there was no room for brain burst. Except if you roll with a pre-made that is literally catering to you.

@@RealAsianRobot it’s a great option for purgas staff. Since everyhting Can burn easily besides any enemy covered in carapace, crusher, brain burst offsets that. If you choose assail with purgas you have nothing for monstrosity, or carapace. If you love purgas try brain burst. Assail is really great for voidstrike for quick kills in a clench.

I figure it either needs like a trauma staff style AoE from the head exploding or maybe let the flat 10% scale up at half your crit rate. Even patch 14 it's simply too long to be waiting around to pop 1 enemy. Empowered + Scriar's with it in patch 14 feels soooooo close to a real build but channeling the thing still feels like just too long to be slowed down and only hitting 1 enemy without a heavy CC or any AoE to back it up.

I feel like the alternative for making the BB not as bad might be the smart (?) charge time based on HP of the enemy. Like if you're going to BB Crusher, it's X seconds charge. If you're going to BB just a regular Gunner, then it's Y seconds, and so on. But I really like the ideas you're suggesting, especially the insta kill w/ charges like Assail.

Basically in the current way they've designed the game, speed is king! The faster that something kills, the more meta it is. So when you examine something like brain burst, you quickly realise that it cannot keep up if a Veteran is running a plasma gun or revolver, because he will pop the target faster than you ever could. Hence for this ability to compete, it needs either speed or AoE value of some kind.

I think its slow charge time is BB's signature. It just needs additional damage to make it worth it, like perhaps +50% more damage on flak/carapace armored enemies, AND if BB kills an enemy, create an AOE damage around it, to make it a decent competitor to assail/smite.

love the content, just got back into darktide and your builds have helped getitng back into the groove of the updates, also i found that storing the extra warp charged helps increase damage so only need to two burst to kill the bulward (?, the one with hammer) also the surge force gave me better results, second was void strike for this build

This is just made for the penances tbh. It's better to optimize it using Empowered psionics for actual combat. That said it's still pretty bad overall haha. It really needs a buff imo

The problem with the ability is that it's far too slow for what it gives, it locks you in place & it only targets one enemy at a time. Carapice enemies are important but not that common. The charge up time needs to be near instant or it has to be able to target groups.

You can roll that if you so choose. It's just that peril management is potentially tougher. If you feel confident enough, you can have basically the same build and just run the Dome Shield. I encourage anyone wanting to run this to test what suits them best and how well they can manage their peril until high intensity situations.

@@indoraptor12345 You dont need it actually. - Kill 200 elites/specials with brain burst. - Kill 100 Elites/Specials with Brain Burst, while at max Warp Charges. - Kill an Elite while blowing up. - Use Psykinetics/Venting to survive 50 Perils. - Kill 25 Hounds, Muties, Trappers with Brain Burst before they Incap an ally. - Brain Burst 4 Elites/Specials in 12 seconds. There is only ONE penance that needs Venting Shriek, and you would be best to just do that by itself and not while trying to do the other ones, as Warp Charges are pretty important for making Brain Burst somewhat usable, AND a few require Warp Charges to complete, while Venting Shrieks dumps all charges. The Venting penance would work better with an Assail build instead where you can much more quickly rebuild Charge stacks and maintain damage output at the same time.

Any tips for doing the warp battery penence? it seems super dificult now

Currently building up a Psyker & play Heresy. Completely dominating with BB so I’m assuming the issue is speed considering you can target a heretic while in cover?

Yeah, once you get to Damnation and Auric, its too slow. Hence why there is a higher level build with the Purgatus that uses Brain burst but is better. It was released in patch #16 on this channel. You can use that once your penances are done and you're ready for the tougher stuff since it has BB, but its much faster to cast and does more damage too!

You can two shot crushers and reapers with brain rupture if you take the 200 dmg talent from venting shriek and then take the middle path all the way to the bottom, preferably with the refresh on elite. Don't think the choice's I've mentioned are a good option with this soul fire build though.

Yeah, but having to use your combat ability to kill them with Empowered Psionics (while still costing 2 charges) is underpowered. I can just stick a Krak Grenade on them as veteran. Veteran has other weaknesses, but a Krak Grenade is an instant kill restored every 60 seconds. Faster if we kill elites and specialists. Soooo Yeah, brain Rupture just feels weirdly out of place in a Psyker kit which is now speed focused. You can still go Voidstrike - Auto Rupture with Empowered Psionics for some decent damage, but it will be outclassed by Voidstrike Assail or Trauma Assail which are both superior DPS.

@@RealAsianRobot Yeah I won't be surprised if brain rupture gets a buff and voidstrike gets a nerf in the future. Was using the void against assassination boss on high intensity and the amount of damage it does to even the shield compared to other ranged weapons is ridiculous.

@torm0 it does? It's not supposed to do that. Then again, Purg is one of the strongest against boss shields 🤣🤣🤣, which the flamer can't penetrate but the Soulblaze melts it. It's hilarious. That said, they cannot just nerf Voidstrike willy nilly or the playerbase will drop off a cliff 🤣🤣

Assail will be stronger the nerf is to stop spamming which is understandable. But the aimed shot being much strong is very good. The brain Rupture buff will be something very interesting to test. It might give us a reason to run Rupture with Empowered psionics.

Do you actually need Kinetic Resonance or Kinetic Flayer since they're both useless?

if it wasn't single target it would be better like just make it hit 2-3 additional targets or in an aoe around primary target for reduced dmg (ie full dmg on primary target then 50-70% dmg to everything in a X m radius )

Is Warp Siphon a better choice for BB rather than Empowered Psionics? From what I understand, E. Psionics reduces brain bursts charge time by 50% and raises its damage also. There's also a keystone modifier for it to have 3 charges, so you can brain burst 3 times with relatively lower cast times.

Warp siphon is just for the penances. My latest Purg and Brain Rupture bucks for patch #16 uses Empowered Psionics. Check it out if you want a proper Purg and Brain Rupture build

Nay lol. You learn as you go, most of the icons will be the same as the skill/blessing icon therefore it is usually just an indicator for the number of stacks of whatever effect is from your skill tree/weapon

Brainburst is the only blitz that doesn't have multiple targeting capabilities..assail can fast fire hordes/smite can link between the horde...brain burst..needs to explode enemies and shrapnel the body into the horde. It's so simple to fix...they have to see what I see

The problem is you will need help from friends. They will need to let you brain burst the elites to maintain the charges. As only elite and special kills WITH BRAIN BURST will help you for the penance

Not really. It's still just for penances. Brain burst is mostly used with Empowered Psionics

So I did some testin, Brain burst CAN 2 shot EVERYTHING that isn't a boss, including crushers, maulers, reapers, everything. Brain burst upgrade 50% damage (Also get the extra upgrade for "activating active ability charge your burst 75% faster for x seconds") middle capstone 50% damage (up to 3 charges and this reduces charging time for your next burst also) Scryer’s Gaze 10% damage (from the skill activation effect only, not the ramping number effect) AND the 3% warp damage on crit stacks 5 times lasts 10 seconds (forget what it's called but it's right near the top, one of the blue special effects in the tree) WITH all of these active you can 2 shot all standard enemies on 5. Without that extra 15% warp damage from crits talent, the only thing I think you don't kill in 2 brain bursts is just the Crusher, but he's on a SLIVER of hp, you could melee him ffs. However with the bonus charging speed from the capstone effect and the bonus 75% from your BB upgrade, the full charge takes just under 1 second I think. It's noticeably fast.

See the issue is that Vet just has to toss 1 krak grenade to achieve the same result. It's why BB feels slow and underpowered and needs all these buffs just to even stand a chance really.

@@RealAsianRobotbrain burst is a long range special. I’ve used it in auric and it still does great. If you aren’t using voidstrike, brain burst is the better choice. Assail is terrible for long range in T5 for most enemies, hardly one shots. Your close range options will all suffer in range, and purgas is close second in staffs, and that’s a much better horde killer than assail.

@SpliffyHusk hard disagree. You don't need a long range kill tool with Brain Burst. You will literally never use it the entire match actually, because it is too slow to be of any use in High Intensity Shock Troopers. At most you'll get to enjoy the value of the auto brain burst triggering. Assail on the other hand does incredibly well and I have multiple streams and vids showing that it is the best choice for Auric Damnation runs no matter what staff you use. If needed, I can always demonstrate on a Psyker Stream that Assail is the best option without doubt or question. Especially since you can counter snipe a sniper faster than anyone using brain burst.

How about meele psyker build?

Brain Rupture would be so great if they just got rid of the cooldown on Kinetic Flayer. The Soublaze spreader build when the game first dropped was so fun to play simply because Kinetic Flayer would proc so often, and yet it also never felt OP when it did. Even now with the augments, i still dont think itd be broken if they removed the cooldown, though i could live with it if they dropped it just to 5 seconds.

They should alter the nature of kinetic flayer. Make it a 3 to 5 second cooldown that causes an AoE kinetic explosion centered around 1 target. They can reduce the damage drastically, but it would make it useful in a very different way that would also be fair. That's what I wish they would do

I'm still running Purgatus + Brain Burst cause I'm too used to it. I'm only a filthy casual that mostly plays on Malice so my ideas of what is good may not be great. But I'm running Brain Rupture by going down Telekine Shield and Empowered Psionics. My idea is that with 2 stacks of Telekine Shield(not using the dome), it's easier to make use of Kinetic Resonance. With Empowered Psionics, it lets me cast Brain Rupture even faster and for free. Also using Seer's Presence so I should be able to drop Telekine shield more often. In theory if you chain Elite kills, you can keep Empowered Psionics up with Overpowering Souls - which should make peril management easier since it lets you do it for free. I don't really like Warp Siphon now cause unlike pre-skill tree, you can't just randomly burst enemies to keep your stacks up. I find it hard to maintain warp charges. Being able to rapidly burst just feels good, but I'm only hanging around Malice so I have no idea how well this would hold up at Damnation Auric type situations. Voidstrike is probably still better at the end of the day.

I use purgas and brain burst on heresy auric. It’s still really strong, and doing damage to heavy enemy’s before they get to your teammates help. It’s still viable

It's a bit too slow when you're overwhelmed in Auric missions. It can be used but in general, the other powers tend to do better. That's all haha

Brain burst should have an aoe effect that would make it way more satisfying imagine if you can lock on to multiple enemies 😩

Not really. Just grab Assail at level 7. And win Malice with no effort. It's a GG from there. You can practically play the whole run with just that. If you still feel weaker. Run Assail in Uprising

of course i know your opinion on brainburst itself. I would like to talk about Voidstrike itself, since everyone makes their own experiences with the game. I think that the brainburst itself is a shit skill, but with automatic (15 seconds) and voidstrike it makes it supreme for me. Why is that? You made build i tried, Void+ Assail makes no sense to me since you can clear hordes even more effective with void strike if you funnel them since the AI in this game is predictable mostly. So Voidstrike > assail in my opinion. Void+ Smite is to me more viable due to the constant stunlock of enemys if needed, still you can mostly clear things before they reach you even. so for me to use Voidstrike the only option would be Brainburst with autoproc and warpcharges build. You can have an uptime off 100% with max warpcharges and typicaly you hop from specialist group to specialist group, while doing this your 15 sec internal cooldown is ready to instant pop a crusher or bullwark with one voidstrike shot so they do not even start to be a thread. Would love to hear your opinion on this. Greetings and keep the vids coming.

that's fair enough. You can run Voidstrike with Automatic Brain Rupture. The Reason Voidstrike is paired with Assail is that Assail is faster than Voidstrike for Horde clearing. In Auric missions, especially high intensity shock troopers. This is invaluable in specialist rushes, especially if your team is not that good. That said, if you prefer Void + Rupture you can try it. If it gives you a 70% win rate in Auric Damnation, then that means it is a good build for you. I don't deny that the automatic brainburst is useful, but it is still only a single target. I have no need for additional single target damage in most of my runs If you mostly fail Auric Damnation missions (with randoms, and not in pre-made groups) then the build is probably a bad idea. That's the best way to test

Really dislike how the psyker penances are all pretty much geared around brain burst. The ability is objectively underpowered and your doing your strike team a disservice by using it...but I gotta complete my psyker's drip.

Nah it's just any elite or specialist kill as long as you have the warp siphon talent. The brain burst itself is just extra and works well with the warp charges for the penances that require you to pop heads at max charges. Otherwise I would toss this build out completely.

@nylockgaming7209 this I am unsure of as my penances were completed in the old version of the game where warp charges were part of the Psykers base kit. I am unsure how they work now in relation to penances. I would recommend NOT taking the 6 charge perk when doing this and seeing if the penance completes without issue at 4. Also feel free to ask questions anytime. I always reply (when I'm awake)

Brainburst i think just needs cerebral lacerations back,i think that would fix it but truth be told im not totally sure that would be enough Honestly just a shame,theres a great passive on that side of the tree but you have to take either brainburst or smite to get it and assail is just objectivly better

You can run it with anything to be honest. So use whatever staff you like, but you will feel brain Rupture is even more useless. If you really want to change staffs, Voidstrike is likely to be your best choice. You can also go Surge staff but then your own horde clear is your melee weapon. I recommend running this solely for completing penances and then just throwing this away 🤣🤣
