I know this video was published a year and a half ago, but I just have to say this was freaking incredible. I loved seeing how much you fabricated for the bike and I really like what you did with the brake lines. Awesome job!

Yep, all budgets are relative. Where I saved money is I got the donor bike cheap and did all the work myself. I did spend some money on tools though, but I'm ok with that because I plan on building more. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching, When I look for donor bikes I pick mid 80s and 90s EVO sportsters because the are in the right price range. Too new to be "old Cool expensive" and too old to be "new Expensive".. not sure if that came out right. I guess they are just in the cheap "sweet spot". and I have found them on facebook market place and I have a trailer and will willing to travel a few hours away.. and when you find a deal, jump on it.. if it's a deal it will go quick... good luck with the hunt. I find the hunt to be a fun part.
I've seen 2 similar builds and I have to ask. The soft-tail lower frame: where so you get it from? And how do you know where to cut the existing frame for the alignment? Thanks!!🤘🤘
@JoeBobsGarage
7 ай бұрын
I got it from "TC Brothers" they sale hardtail kits for Sportsters, (not sure about other bikes) you pick it for your year of your bike. It comes with instructions on where to cut the frame... The instructions were good. I think the rear end was around $300... Thanks for watching!

How do you do that on a budget
@JoeBobsGarage
Жыл бұрын
I bought a 1980's EVO sportster, those are in the price sweet spot. Not anywhere near new but too new to be considered a classic. The investment into the tools I consider as an investment in future builds and all the work was done by me and not farmed out. Wait, balancing the tires I had done for me... without the tools, I think I'm in it for under 3K. Thanks for watching!
So wait..the only thing holding on the rear brake caliper is 2 hose clamps ..??
@JoeBobsGarage
Жыл бұрын
Yep, the clamp (not a hose clamp) seems a little sketchy, I'm going to weld on a tab on the bottom os the upper frame. My thought was that the caliper mount is connected to the axle and can not spin because of its location between the upper and lower frame and the original caliper mount location used the frame as a bump stop. Thanks for watching, comments that make me question what I am doing is a good thing.

I aways justify buying tools for a job, because the next time it is needed, you don't have to buy it, so the cost of each build goes down. It cuts down on the guilt involved by spending the money (at least thats what I tell my wife😁)
