ULTIMATE BMW performance diesel (BMW 435D M Sport )

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Can a diesel BMW actually be a fun car and is the BMW 435D M Sport the ULTIMATE performance diesel. With more torque than the BMW M4 this car provides a huge amount of performance but what are the pros and cons of buying a performance diesel.

    Good review as always Damian. I loved my 325d M-Sport (many years back), 6 cylinder BMW dervs are well engineered. I guess another downside now for an owner has to be the tolerance to allowing them into major towns and cities, this is only going to expand across the board and complicate life for some. Look forward to the next one.

    With the very controversial look of the new 4 Series (which we may get used to in a years time) I'm sure we will see used ones of this version holding their value very well, as buyers initially hold off buying the large grilled new ones. Though I do not own a diesel, its a fact that new ones are as environmental (if not more so) than their Petrol counterparts, and as such I believe they should be treated the same in city centers. I am surprised the mainstream media shy away from making that fact known. Another very good review from MSDC!

    Thank you for your kind words, I am looking forward to seeing a new 4 series in the flesh and see if the grill seems as big as the pictures. I think diesels have such a bad image it’s brave to say otherwise and the government enforcing diesels to stop being made does not help. I really like the new large grills on the new BMWs and not sure what all the fuse is about, many manufacturers have large or even larger grills (Lexus being a good example)

    I enjoyed this review, thanks. In answer to your question about the M4....it really is in a different league in terms of performance. On a motorway dual for example it would leave you behind almost instantly and the handling is superior. That being said, with the 435d you will get the power down more often than not on our not so great British roads.. Also with the N57 straight six you will get a fantastic mix of torqy driving characteristics, as you've just proven in the video. They are brilliant fun these cars without a doubt and not many people realise this until they drive and own one. Super comfortable and frugal on long journeys too which is something the M4 can't compete on....18-20 mpg with a hard suspension and an annoying amount of engine drone when cruising. For me, the best combo with this engine is the 335d touring with adaptive suspension. I used to have one of these which was 18 plate in Tanzanite blue which I have regretted changing ever since. I'm now thinking about going for another one as the M340d (new B57 engine version) is blimin expensive.

    It’s a motorway car designed and built for munching the miles at a speed most of us are not accustomed to here in the UK. It needs to be driven at motorway speeds and for extended periods of time. If you don’t drive a lot of fast miles this is not the car for you. Check out some of the petrol versions. The 430i and 435i (xdrive) are as equally enjoyable to drive and own. Watch for the options packages fitted to some of these models. There are some very nicely specified cars out there. If in the market be patient and make yourself familiar. The LCi cars have some equipment available in them that rival the later model at bargain prices.

    Hi Damian, I’ve seen you driven a MK8 Fiesta ST Performance Edition. I own one of them at the moment. I’m considering this car in a few years time when the price has decreased a bit and when I need a more ‘grown up’ car. I know how reliable this Diesel engine is which is why I’m pulling towards this car, and Ford Ecoboost engines having the reputation they have, I don’t want to keep the fiesta for too long 😂. If I changed to the 435D in a few years? Do you think I’ll miss the ST? I’m aware of the massive torque upgrade and the higher power, but I’m also aware of the extra weight, and I know this is a heavy car. I’m unsure as to if I changed the ST to this, that if it would be a stupid decision or not. I would be interested to hear your opinion. 😊

  • @DamoDrives

    It’s a very different type of car especially as you go from fwd to RWD. The BMW is certainly a better all round car and a lot of fun and with so much torque it pulls like a train. The fiesta is not as refined or well built but is great on backroads and the fact you can push it more to its limits with out breaking the speed limit is a massive plus. You will miss the fiesta on the odd occasion but the 435d is just a better package and you do feel special behind the wheel. Hope that helps, also a few small mods can give you good increase in performance if you need more.

    @@DamoDrives Hi Damian, I appreciate you gave such a quick reply especially at this time in the morning. I had a Fiesta Ecoboost ST-Line ever since I was 18 right up until I was 20 and at 18, it felt like a quick car but as I got older I noticed that it’s not as quick as what I first thought it was. Hence I bought the ST, for that extra performance, and chose the PE. Don’t get me wrong I agree with you on the performance side of it, the 1.5 engine pulls really nicely from stock and I don’t feel the need to remap it. Even though I’m still only 21, I feel like I’ve matured in driving, like I’ve slowed down a bit and focused more on economy rather than all out performance, I still like a fast feeling car though haha. The PE feels like such a special car with it being limited edition and having coilovers, etc. I would feel like I’m giving up a very special car, so I’m really in conflict with myself as to what I would be the better car to have. I agree with you though, the 4 series is much better as a daily all rounder

    The 435d is a fast car,alot of torque. Off the line it takes the m4 as its 4 wheel drive,the m4 back tyres are spinning,dosent hold the power down.i know I had an m4.

  • @mlgboy1
    @mlgboy12 жыл бұрын

    There is no doubt that the 435D and its sister 335D are increadible machines capabale of loads of fun driving and embarrasing a lot of so called performance vehicles mostly by being able to get the power down more quickly with the xdrive system. My 335D has, and still, is a fantastic package in so many ways, its no M3/M4 dont get me worng but it will worry the rear wheel drive only versions off the line easily. Only pain with these is make sure you ignore the BMW service recommendations like oil / filter at 18,000 / 2 years, which is quite simply a recipe for massive bills later in its life. Oil /filter service should be 10,000 miles or one year at the absolute worst and lifetime gearbox oil/filter!!!!! dont make me laugh BMW, even the gearbox manufacturer recommends 60,000 miles. Other issues are how many options there were when speccing a new one, trust me searcing for a used one, once you have learned about the options available, with the toys you want on it is a bloody nightmare. Having said that prices right now are super strong and even more so if it is highly specced. Perhaps a video going through the options available on these would be good. I would be more than willing to help with that.

    Nice review, thanks! Regarding the sound. Can put some nice aftermarket exhaust like Akrapovich or Milltech and it will sound even better than M4. Regarding the looks. I still think pre-face lift rear lights looked a bit better.
