Well, maybe wars of the past happend more often, but with weapon development modern wars bloodier. Thousands of killed and massive destructions. After the first year of Russian global invasion (2022) casualties from both sides have been already more than during the whole American Revolution (1775-1783). Matter of fact, thirteen colonies are almost twice bigger than Ukraine territory before the war (2014).

In Ukraine fights Russia (one big player) and Ukraine itself. In American Revolution was British Empire (another big player) and 13 previous colonies. Another example for that is Afghan war (USSR, than US against Taliban), scale is approximately the same, but in Ukraine the casualties are already the same as in these wars, though they lasted more than two years. World wars are world wars, the first was bigger than almost every war before, the second was bigger than the first and the third will be definitely bigger than the second, if it happen. Seven years war was called by Churchill "the first world war" and casualties were much smaller than in 20th century because of weapons development. Crimean war was a clash between three superpowers and Osman Empire. Also Napoleon wars were one of the bloodiest conflict in 19th century (if we combine them in one conflict), but again there were the strongest countries of their time. Character of war has effect too. If it 30 years war with a lot of what's now being called war crimes than casualties will be even bigger than in 7 years war, because most of them are civilians.
