Some enlightning moments, I will tell you at the end how much money these actually generate.

    I really made the "tutors" on my course earn their money. But I'd read up on what I could get away with. Without being deemed to be disruptive or not taking part. Both of which are reasons for the tutors to bin you. If they do, apparently you get referred back to the Cops & get points & a fine on top of the fee for the speed awareness course! I got told to stop answering all of their questions & let someone else have a go. I also got told off for helping the guys on my table with the photo round (photos of roads & you're asked to give the speed limit for the road in each photo) There were deliberate red herrings i.e. what looked like 60mph country roads but with street lights, so they were 30mph. My reply was..."Don't complain, I'm helping to improve road safety. Which is what today is all about ISN'T IT?"... My interactions obviously frustrated the tutors but I made sure not to break their rules. The day ended with them asking..."So guys, what have you learnt today?"... My answer was..."To spend even longer staring at my speedometer, rather than observing the road ahead. If that results in me hitting a child. I'll be able to sleep soundly at night. Knowing that I did so at or below the speed limit"... Obviously that went doen like a $hite in a swimming pool, but it's true. Road safety is about observation of all of your surroundings. Not being focused on the speedometer. I predict that the 20mph limit in Wales will actually increase the number of accidents. BTW just for clarification... I used to clock up approx 2500 miles per week as a motorcycle courier in the 1990's. And since then I've owned cars & bikes capable of nearly 3 x the UK national speed limit. Therefore I've either been extremely lucky? Or I'm not a menace on the road. Back in the days before speed cameras & camera vans. There's no way that 37mph in a 30mph would get you pulled over by the Cops. Back then they were genuinely interested in road safety not the generatimg of revenue. Therefore they targeted folk that were speeding at a dangerous level. Not folk that had inadvertently crept over the speed limit.

    I attended one of these courses today (Gloucestershire), apparerntly the agenda / content for this has one has only been in use for a month and they are already looking at changing it. No phamplet was given out today. The cost apparently varies from area to area and they say that the money here is used to provide things to help others amd raise more awareness of the effects of speed (but that apparently is different in other areas).

    I'm actually really looking forward to the course I'm on tomorrow. I really do hope it will open my eyes to things I've missed. I will say now though, that I'm driving a 24 year old car that was clocked doing 35 in a 30 (On a non dangerous stretch of road, one that honestly shouldn't be a 30, it's the London road, near a town, and not even really residential, but still a main road. Honestly, They should probably check wheel speed doing MOT's. I will report back tomorrow on my findings!

    As usual, it's a money making scheme for someone in the know's brother in law. It should only be fines, which should go to filling in pot holes or something, instead of lining pockets. I'm doing a course online soon. Am I going to come away going "Yeah, I'm so aware now"? Am I bollocks. I'm doing it to avoid the points, full stop. If it was just a fine, I'd rather pay the £100. All the forums I've seen ridicule the courses.

    it s all going to be out of your hand in the next 5-10 years, cars will be restricted to do ONLY the speed limits, the tech is already in new cars. DISGUSTING IMO .......... do they actually teach kids how to cross a road anymore, judging by todays parenting standards, probably not, never mind easy to get the motorist, any pedestrians have to go on a course?

    Those courses arnt run every day or even five days a week,Do you think they can get 60 people a day or 300 a week just for speeding in their local area? The course by me runs 2 courses a day twice a month with 23 people on each course.That’s 96 people per month at £95 each.I dare say other areas run more courses but three a day five days a week just isn’t correct I’m afraid.

  • @billy4rocks

    @billy4rocks

    Well on my commute to work every day pretty much every single driver/rider is going over the limit, by varying amounts on the A2, thats 1000’s of people speeding every single day, just on one single road. There are average speed cameras everywhere, and mobile ones, like the one that caught me. I was offered a slot from an option of three over one day, over 5 days a week, there are more than enough drivers to fill these spaces, where i live at least. Maybe they don’t run ir 5 days a week every week, but if they can rake in more money, why wouldn’t they?.

    I just got a ticket too, first time in 30 years, however after watching quite a few videos on what happen next, I am however slightly alarmed as ALL the videos state that they got caught doing 57 in a 50 zone, guess what speed I was 'caught' doing? Yep 57mph. Very suspicious if you ask me.

  • @LewieLeway

    @LewieLeway

    Yep, mine was 37 in a 30. Lots of 7's aint there? And if you look at the options on the form they make it quite clear that if you want to question it in court you will come away with a fine, costs and maybe more points. Rock and a hard place. Tossers.

    It's all a money making nonsense! Councils are strapped for cash having squandered public finances & are looking for soft targets. As a professional driver, with over 2 million safe miles under my belt, I have the possibility of losing my licence & livelihood for the "crime" of being slightly above some arbitrary speed limit! It's akin to forgetting to cancel your indicator or turn your main lights on or off! I could walk into Tesco today & walk out with 10 of their finest steaks & some decent French grape juice to go with them & not pay a penny & just get a "warning," I could probably do that 20 times & not even have a hint of the punishment I would get for fleetingly doing 23mph in a 20! Fecking madness! 😠
