DRIVING AWARENESS COURSE | WHAT HAPPENED | WHAT TO EXPECT | THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS

So yep here it is... I was stupid and have paid price so to speak, here's what happened on my driving awareness course, what I thought, felt and what to expect if you have to attend one.

Lottie! So glad I stumbled upon this video. You provided brilliant anecdotes as to why it’s important to stay focus whilst driving. You taught me (BA,MA in criminology and criminal justice!) worked with the police for a few years! Knew things about driving. Your insight was very valuable, I hope everything’s okay and I’m so glad the course was effective! The company that run it (UKROEd/NDORS) are probably relieved to hear people have had such profound experiences.

It was like therapy for me, I also made a really bad driving error a couple of weeks ago and was terrified about taking this course, but i feel so much better now i have watched your video. I have been beating myself up since it happened, but as you say it's done now, you have to accept it and try and just do better. Thank you so much❤️

Interesting & Informative video. I too will be taking a course on Wednesday & so worried about it. Obviously we all feel guilty. But taking Ownership of what you/we did is part of your/our awareness to do better. Like you say i think we all need reminding of driving awareness.

Wow!!! Thank you so much this was very informative... I’ve been driving 38 years without any problems, took my eye of the ball and got a speeding ticket I was doing 35mph in a 30... So my bad! I was really worried about going on the course which I’ve not had confirmed yet as it happen two weeks ago.. your video has really helped ease my mind. And although slightly different to yours I’m sure the course will pretty much be the same. So yeah, thank you 🙏🏻

Being offered a Speed Awareness course for just 3 mph is extremely unusual...nearly all are set to the limit + 10% + 2...so in a 30 that would be 30 + 3 + 2 which is 35mph and above. Even in a 20 it would be 24mph and above. But of course even 33 is illegal and on most cars it would show around 35 on the speedo due to overreading.

Interesting. I drive and cycle. Only got done for speeding 20 years ago and wasn’t even offered a chance to attend an awareness course; just got 3 points and a fine. The points lasting 4 years IIRC on my license which pushed up my insurance premiums, before they expired. Last 2 years I have cycled far more than I have driven. And the last year I got myself a camera and reported at least 80 close passes. I suspect a large majority will have been offered and opted for an awareness course like this. I hope those who did attend learnt something from the course. It’s not about revenge but learning from the experience and not repeating bad habits.

I got busted after 40 years of zero speeding tickets and yes the letter that you get is pretty brutal, basically calling you the worst person on the planet for going 9mph over the limit..I was busted on a camera. In my dfence, I HAD to speed a bit to get past a bunch of trucks who weren't letting anyone in. I eleccted to go on the course rather than the fine and 3 points (that really screws up your insurance renewal premium). I consider myself to be a safe active driver who lets people join traffic at junctions when I can. The fact is that I got busted and have to accept the consequences now

I was watching a thing in the States where this local town had gone *NUTS* on speeding & parking enforcement. Same as here the "authorities" were claiming it was all about road safety but, being a small town, they could really do some digging & looking into accounts & it was *ALL* about raising revenue! Thing is people don't get it! the amount of similar uploads I've been on trying to rally the troops & people have just rolled over!

Thanks for making this video I really do appreciate it. I received a fine almost a month later from when I was caught. At the time it happened I had a gut wrenching feeling I had been caught but a few weeks on I hadn’t received anything so thought I may have got away with it. The fine stated I was caught doing 39 in a 30 which was quite over but meant I qualified for the course. At the time I had been driving for a mere 5 months and the reason for me getting it was because I wanted to get past the light before it turned red as did the person in front of me but he spotted them and managed to slow down well in time and I didn’t. What makes it worse is it clearly looks as though I’m tailgating in the picture as I’m that close you can’t even see my plate as I’m too close to the car in front. It only came into view a second or so later when I dropped down to 35 which was still over. I was caught by a mobile speed camera van that was only a few yards in front on the light. I thought I’d got away but sadly I didn’t. When I received the fine I was extremely worried as I thought I’d defo end up with the fine and points and not be given the option of the course due to being such a new driver. I’m due to attend in July and have been looking around to see what the course is all about and your videos the first one that popped up. It’s made me feel much better about the course as I assumed there will be loads of trick questions in it that they could fail you on but this certainly doesn’t seem to be the case going by you’re experience. Once again thanks so much! P.s Sorry for making a long paragraph out of it haha

No worries!!! It's terrible that feeling isn't it! And as much as people go on about it, not everyone is a perfect driver!!! Everyone makes mistakes and luckily the course is just about reiterating the things we know or should know, which can be helpful, I'm glad my video helped, there wasn't a video up when I did my course so I felt like people would maybe like a bit of reassurance!!! Let me know how you get on!!! Good luck xx

It took a lot of tickets to have to take course. It was zzzzzzzzzz and lost my license for 3 months at 16. I was a very enthusiastic driver then. Pretty much speeding tickets and drag racing. Had a 60s muscle car. What 16 year old can resist? I was a bit of a crazy kid but paid my tickets since I was working. Since I was 12 babysitting and starting at 9 babysitting my baby sister. Terrible 2s is no lie. Been good since. Lol No cameras back then. Yellow meant hurry up to get through. Never pulled over for that.

Totally my fault. the police could see I had a clean record but decided I will send you on this course. I drive for a living and Luckly no one was badly hurt. . But I am not scott free as I will likely lose my job in the Investigaton . Car drivers drive around large vehicles like idiots and its a dangerous job. So I am thinking of resigning . We are paid very badly driving a large passenger vehicle . people in super markets get paid more than I do. I’ve just been done doing 37 in a 30 zone in a tiny village. The only reason I was doing that speed is because I was passing a cyclist who was driving down the middle of the lane. Me being a considerate driver I sped up a bit to pass him quickly. Now I wish I had crawled past him & maybe knocked him off his bike if someone came the opposite direction. Live & learn , speeding ticket or take out a cyclist... I’m not getting a speeding ticket again.

errr...or you could have held back if there wasn't space to overtake in the speed limit? It's no excuse to speed to be able to overtake.

I think they should interview offenders and if found to be annoying, borings and probably incapable of driving, then you should be sent to do the course otherwise left alone to go back home.
