UK PM Rishi Sunak apologises for leaving France D-Day events early | BBC News

The UK's prime minister, Rishi Sunak, has said it was a "mistake" to leave D-Day commemorations in France early.
Mr Sunak returned to the UK early on Thursday, from events in Normandy marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
It later transpired he'd taken part in an ITV election interview.
After apologising, Sunak says people "can judge me by my actions when it comes to supporting the armed forces".
The UK will hold a general election on Thursday 4 July, which all parties are currently campaigning for.

What Sunak did was the most disgraceful act I have ever seen by a British Prime Minister in all my 70 years and has gone around the world and will not go down well with all those nations whose men and women served in the second world war and as you did not visit Omaha beach because you thought that cutting your visit short to give a TV interview was more important than paying respect to all those who died and were injured on Omaha beach to free the world from tyranny, I would not count on being welcomed in America in the future. I am an old British soldier, now 70 years old, who had family members that served in both world wars and other conflicts, as I have, and I have visited many first and second world war sites as well as all the Normandy beaches and know and have seen the price of freedom, but you thought that cutting your visit short for the 80th commemoration of the Normandy landings to give a TV interview was more important than paying the respect that all those who died and were injured off and on all the Normandy beaches was more important. The King, after his cancer treatment, all those veterans, mostly in their late nineties and older who attended, all the world leaders and representatives who attended, families who attended and everybody else who attended thought that paying respect to all those who died and were injured to secure our freedom was the only important, rightful and respectful thing to do for the 80th commemorations of the D-Day landings but you though otherwise and disgraced all those people and the UK.

Ignorant, bigotted muppet. India sent 2.5 million soldiers to fight for allied victory, you ignorant racist piece of garbage. Do not dare diminish their sacrifice by suggesting an Indian wouldn't care about WWII. They lost countless numbers of soldiers to help us win WWII. Learn your damn history, insufferable bigot. Sunak is a piece of garbage, but it has nothing to do with his Indian ancestry. India sacrified many lives for all our benefit to help win the war.

Ok, you are sorry, you regret it, though what changes are you going to make to prevent this from happening in the future? Rishi is effectively abdicating responsibility by blaming whoever was in charge of his itinerary; if so, you would think some important change there is needed.

Someone explain this to me please coz the logic doesn’t add up. If his itinerary was planned before the election was called it makes this situation worse because now it’s obvious he was planned to leave early as a political gimmick only with no real reason to be back in the UK early. His original plan should have been to stay the whole day and a recent change should have been to leave early because of election campaigning- that at least would have made some sense even if still abhorrent.

Some may say hey what's the big deal, just a little mistake and he has apologized. They should be reminded, he's a national leader with teams of professional advisers whose job it is to stop him making stupid gaffs. If he's incapable of making basic commonsense decisions he has no place being leader of the country.

I agree but it seems to me that no Brit should need an advisor to know that what he did was beyond unpatriotic - quite indecent. Perhaps he doesn’t feel British, Indian, or African (where his parents were domiciled). He’s got a green card for the States after all and his wife is a non-dom. He can jump ship any time, with his billions, and let the people of the nation go to hell. Are we surprised that this globalist who just let 2 million people into the country in 2 years, after promising to do the opposite, has any care for the people in it?!

He needs to resign by Monday if he can't do it immediately. Unfortunately, we'll be funding yet another Prime Minister's pension when he steps down, adding to the burden on the public purse. Each new Prime Minister who loses the election adds to this growing financial strain, wasting taxpayer money for years to come.
