All these years later you can truly appreciate what Wolf was doing. The series was SO much more entertaining because of him.

@@bentheswitchsportsfan06 Showed no respect on screen, i wouldn't be surprised if he told them in advance that he was going to be nasty to them if they won. He broke character a lot throughout the entire run of gladiators and showed that he wasn't actually a bad guy.

American Gladiator Sabre said that when he did Sky Track, he'd say "Stay alive" to himself.

Gary was awesome at the events, if he was better on the Eliminator he would have been a contender to win the Series.

I was only 7 years old when Warrior got hurt, I cried so much all the way though the rest of the episode, now 30 years later I've put my name down for when the applications get sent out for the 2023 revamp, might not have much of a chance with the amount of people applying, but I always swore that if the brought it back I'd try to enter, I'm now a 2nd Dan martial arts instructor teaching women's self defence and it's all thanks to the amazing roll models I had as a child. Would love to give that big guy a hug lol

@@quinncody6030 from what I've been able to find out, every applicant gets the chance to try out, to qualify applicants must be able to do the following 800 meter run in 3mins for women 2:30mins for men 20 foot rope climb 15 for monkey ladder 5 chin up for women 10 for men 30 second pugil combat attacking and 30 seconds defending As many push ups as possible in 1min Highest scoring contestants get picked for the tv show, I'm currently a 2nd Dan martial arts instructor and the only thing I'm worried about is the running lol. Applications go out at the end of this year or begining of next year..... and I can't wait. 😁 and I wish you all the luck in the world xxx

@@pjelly633 Thanks for the info. I used to be able to run a five-minute mile, so now just have to get back to that sort of level again (I've let it slip over time). This is certainly an incentive to do it. I'm glad every person who applies gets a chance at qualifying . I'm very excited about the opportunity. As the saying goes, you've got to be in it to win it :)

I keep hearing they're bringing Gladiators back! I hope so. They need to keep the fun/playful yet slightly grand elements from it with focus on good sportsmanship. They also need to keep the theme song! Just arrange it with a high quality orchestra and use modern guitar tones, percussion and production. Maybe good powerful female vocals would work better too.

I missed this episode in 1993 when it was originally aired, but now I've finally watched this episode in 2019. Although it's 26 years later I'm still glad that I've put a wrong to the right.

My Time Machine dream!.. Joust wasn't a very good addition, too difficult to knock people off and when the platform turned round you got 5 seconds of inactivity... Did they cut it later on? My ideal lineup would be: Atlaspheres The Wall Powerball Swingshot/Gauntlet (rotated) Hang Tough Duel (with platforms 6 inches closer) Eliminator. Then occasionally get Sky Track, the pole climb thing, Suspension Bridge and the balls, the duel on the bridge and the assault course as a special treat (maybe 3 x each per season). Get rid of Joust as it's boring, Pyramid too dangerous. Then have specialist Gladiators on specialist events, so Jet, Lightning and later Vogue on Hang Tough, Shadow and Nightshade on Duel + the bridge, Saracen and Cobra on rings, Warrior Powerball, Hunter on The Wall, Wolf on Sky Track. Panther, Scorpio etc just backup for events like Gauntlet or Swingshot, but not for other events as they're not as good. This was called 'The Ultimate Challenge', so it needs the best people on each game. Also send Shadow to rehab and bring him back as the conquering hero who's turned his life around - superb example to kids + don't bring in that pole vaulter as she lost almost every event... Nightshade should be the leader of the women Glads, Shadow of the men. Anyway, fun to reminisce, but I think it was the additions of some iffy Gladiators (Ace, Trojan, pole vaulter, Khan) and events (Joust mainly) plus losing 4 of the best 7 Glads (Shadow, Warrior, Nightshade Jet - only Lightning, Wolf and Hunter stayed the course) meant the show lost its way from 1996. I do think if they'd kept the best ones it would have been popular until around 2005.

Lightening never lost when facing the wall I watched a interview with a few of the original gladiators few months back and it was in a fun facts section. So I’d say that was her specialist event

I just watched this and actually surprised all these new events were introduced so early, I thought it was way later than season 2 because I remember never liking them as much as the originals. Powerball and Gauntlet were good, but wow, all these other things, I don't even want to finish the season watching these. In real life we would play a lot of these events (as kids in the park or whatever) and somehow the original events are just more realistic to reenact, Hang Tough on the hand bars, The Wall on the climbing net, I think it was only Swingshot and Atlasphere that couldn't be replicated on the playground but they are so classic in their own right. After 30 years, I barely even remember these new events existed which just goes to show how inferior they were when they're already in from season 2.

Mate you are a legend for putting these up... I reckon these episodes look remastered as well

Best all-rounder of the lot. Power, speed, charisma. Yes, Jet, Lightning and Vogue were the best looking, but Nightshade was the best Gladiator.

Even for 1993 H&S standards I'm astounded they let the men do the eliminator without helmets.

I imagine a lot of them are talented. The problem is that they have the minds of children, not liking it when people "grass" on them, gravitating towards gangs, and wanting to solve every problem by fighting, etc.

The cameraman I wouldn't fancy her chances on the travelator 🤣🤣🙈

Watching from the beginning after not seeing it since I was a kid. My favourite games are Hang Tough, The Wall, Powerball and the one where it’s a corridor and they have to race past 5 gladiators. Not sure what’s it’s called, not been introduced yet. Not fussed for Atlaspheres and Joust is terrible.

Those sticks in Joust don't even look heavy enough to knock anyone off unless they fall like Wolf did. Doesn't help that the bikes rotating takes away time that could be put towards poking each other more.

I was thinking that too. Wolf only fell because he was balancing the wrong way at the time the bike switched directions and I'm sure that was the case for 90% of the contenders who fell too. Axed it early on unsurprisingly

It’s back in a couple of weeks same theme tune, just John Anderson replaced he’s in his 90’s and new gladiators. I don’t think Atlasphere and sky track are coming back though this series

He's just said he sells double glazing. Door-to-door salespeople are an unpopular profession, because people don't like people knocking on their doors and bothering them for something they don't want, and because some of them use shady sales techniques. For some reason double glazing salesmen are (or were) particularly negatively stereotyped.

I like the wall. I was on the wall. I would go on the left hand wall and the gladiator I want chasing me is Wolf or Saracen. But not Cobra or Hunter. They would caught me. Wolf might psych me up. Saracen might catches me if I made a mistake.

Female center of gravity is around the hips (between belly button and hip), thus making that event typically easy for women to balance as their gravity is basically on the seat. Men center of gravity is above the belly button thus harder to balance.
