This is what 2 critics had to say about these Talented Ladies in back and white - CHICAGO SUN-TIMES The Japanese rock act is the quintessential example of not judging a book (or a band) by its cover. Inspired by everyone from Carlos Santana to Deep Purple and Smashing Pumpkins, but looking like demure movie characters, Band-Maid is a total exploration of contrast, and about as shock rock as you can be nowadays - not for the blood and gore of, say, GWAR, but for the immediate hypnosis they impart. - Selena Fragassi ROLLING STONE Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C.

I was there, you can kinda see my banana shirt(In honor of Akane)every once in a while behind the curly haired kid. Being there was amazing! As the set was going on you could feel that it was special moment that would go down in Band-Maid history. Also I wish I had a nickel for everyone that asked me if it was some sort of Kpop band that was coming up. I would just say "oh no, just wait til you see them".

New subby from Aust here .. howz it goin. 6.50 am here .. what a way to wake up. I grew up on 80's hard rock and listened to the same bands over and over for years. I started looking on KZread at Japanese drummers and found Tamu Murata from Nemophila and got hooked on them for a short while with suggestions of BAND MAID coming up in the suggestions. I thought " that's those little Japanese girls in the maid outfits" and thought "Not for me - poppy voices and music" then after them consistently popping up I thought WTF and decided to have gig .... that was 3 n a half years ago. Since then, I cant think of a band that has taken my attention away from these amazing musicians/song writers. There has never been a more perfect example of " NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER". Kanami is a genius at song writing and when the others put their bits in, this concert is a perfect example of the results. You seem pretty genuine with your reactions to these guys and look forward to more. I reckon you'll be a regular on here with the amount of music they have to react to. Look forward to the next one.

At the beginning, you see the Ladies channeling their inner reserves to just burst out into the music. It's starts with Akane, then you see Miku and Kanami, prepping to launch. And they start and your head is knocked back from the intensity. Then Saiki comes out, and the switch over happens, from the manic intense beat to Domination. The Ladies declaration of their intent to take over the world with their music. Unfortunately too many people still listen with their eyes instead of their ears, and discount the Ladies music. However as their performance continues, the audience size continues to grow. And the audience response to the Ladies music also increases. And Miku's harmonies with Saiki's vocals make their music that much more special. And you notice how they rarely pause between songs. I've been to concerts where the group plays a song then spends the next 5-10 minutes taking before they play the next song. They MIGHT play 3 songs in a row, but in a 90 minute concert a good 20 minutes is the band members talking and they might play 10-14 songs total. Band-Maid however averages 2+ almost 3 hours a show and play anywhere from 18-25 songs. Their tour final at Yokohama Arena was almost 4 hours and 33 songs, and I stayed up all night long to watch the stream live. And Akane as a drummer is a very special individual. She can change things, modify beats, and make something fit where you think it shouldn't. Also Akane is one of "Those" drummers who never uses sampled drums. Her kit is acoustic and what you hear is what it is. Quite a few drummers will use sampled kick and or snare drums, but not Akane. She has 2 Ludwig Black Beauty snares, each tuned differently to fit the songs. The one thing I did notice is Akane didn't use her 20" Zildjian K Trash Crash like she did in 2022. It's still a 20" Zildjian K, however I think she went with a hybrid K. And you see during No God, Dai-San the Ladies lead tech had to come out to adjust Akane's kick drum and do something to her double pedal, finally getting out the gaffers tape and one of Akane's sticks to make it stay in place. And Akane's double pedal was/is a highly modified DW 5000 with a Pearl Z drive connecting rod, and custom springs, chains and beaters. There is/has been a rumor floating around of Akane switching her double pedal to a modified DW 9000, but I haven't been able to confirm it yet. And when Band-Maid does a Ballad, they set a new standard. Some day I hope to be present when the Ladies perform Daydreaming with a FULL Orchestra. And the 2 songs of Dice and Hate? are a MASTERPIECE of Band-Maid, showing their true talent and skill. And many of us think she felt the stick break so she tossed it and grabbed another. And the Ladies will play 3-5 songs, take a small break to setup for the next 3-5 songs, sometimes they will have an "MC", other times it will just be 30-45 seconds of them setting up. But normally they will have 1 or 2 "MC's" then they will have "Omajinai Time", for that I will ask you to watch the fan cam's from LA and Dallas in 2022, those being MISA's and Miku's Birthdays. Watch Vladimir's Chupin's video's where they are broken down into separate playlists, but you will understand just how much the Ladies mean to us the fans. And I really love how Saiki put's more grit into her vocals live, especially during Manners. And MISA solo's underneath Kanami's Solo as well. And Endless Story is a special closer, I know I sang the whoa's with all my heart earlier this year when I saw the Ladies in Houston, with my arms raised swaying from side to side. It is a very emotional song to sing along with the Ladies. And I am glad and honored I was able to share that experience with the rest of the audience. To know just how emotional is is for the Ladies, check out the 2022 Chicago performance of Endless Story, and Akane herself was crying as she played and sang along herself.

There's a reason why so many musicians love and admire this band - anyone who has ever set foot on stage knows perfectly well that stringing songs together with such apparent ease is in fact the result of years of hard work, and that all those perfectly oiled transitions are the fruit of a lot of hard work. And more: as you noticed, they love to be on stage together, you just can't fake that.

To their fans, Band-Maid is the best hard rock band in the world! All the rest, I call future fans, just haven't heard of them yet. But this is s l o w l y changing. Why so slow is mind boggling to me. In eight years, I have only found a couple of people (reactors ;-) who don't think Band-Maid is anything but unbelievable and saying they would attended one of their concerts in a heartbeat! The, Joely!

I was there. Plus their late night gig the night before. literally the only band that could ever get me to return to lollapalooza. They were awesome at both of course 🤘. The crowd started on the small side I thought but literally every other band playing that day was either playing a totally different style of music or just plain sucked. Mostly the latter. Still they had a pretty good crowd by the end because everybody who walked by came over to check it out. and yes I agree that the after show was great especially since there was room to get close up or basically stand wherever you wanted. If they do another midnight show count me in!

This show was great! Only bad thing is that the video editor didn't show the proper lady. They didn't know that bass player might have so many solo time as MISA. They had 10th anniversary tour shows on over 40 times and most show had 20+ songs. During 40+ shows, they had played 71 songs totally. Every shows are worth watching. The more we saw their performance, the more We cannot help loving BAND-MAID ❤❤❤❤❤

The song Daydreaming is a ballad from what I call their middle period. After such a brilliant vocal performance, what really gets me at the end is Saiki saying "Thank you so much" when she and Miku had given us everything. Sounds like you need to go to a show- 2 hours minimum. Genius reaction to a genius band. Thanks.

What a great day you had ! First 'Freedom' live and then the Lollapalooza concert. Early in 2022 I tweeted to Band Maid that every concert should finish with Endless Story as Band Maid's journey is endless. Thankfully they took it to heart and when they came back to the US for the second time, starting with this concert they did just that. They even finished their 10th anniversary tour finale at Yokohama arena with Endless Story. Like you said an anthem to the end. Now I know you have become a maidiac ! Welcome. p.s I suggest you watch the Band Maid documentaries created by Ohrenje. There is one for each member and Miku's is done over 3 separate parts. It would be great if you could react to them too. Why not start with Saiki's here kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZYGswdSTntTHqco.html

SET LIST: 1:20 - FROM NOW ON (instrumental) 5:24 - DOMINATION 9:24 - CHOOSE ME 13:02 - DON’T YOU TELL ME 17:43 - ALONE 21:16 - AFTER LIFE (including Saiki at 21:22 “Let’s go fecking crazy!”) 24:44 - NO GOD 29:07 - 29:43 - PIANO INTERLUDE 29:44 - DAYDREAMING 34:19 - DICE (segues into) 38:18 - HATE? 43:10 - FREEDOM 47:09 - MANNERS 51:00 - ENDLESS STORY (final song and an anthem of love for fans to sing along with. The band members - and audience members - have often cried while performing this). ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. 15:00 TO 16:10 - (during DON’T YOU TELL ME) Akane’s drum patterns are so subtle they are often missed next to MISA and Kanami’s mesmerising call and response but they are so intrinsic to the breakdown - she is such a drum maestro. 29:44 - DAYDREAMING -you seemed to enjoy this quieter side of Band-Maid so I’d have to say you’d love the MV for it too plus songs like ABOUT US or MEMORABLE or the Saiki vocal masterpiece, WONDERLAND. Or even the whole of the 14 song acoustic set, including the song SAYONAKIDORI - which is on their YT channel - featuring Akane using rods instead of sticks on the drums and also singing harmonies, MIKU on acoustic guitar and main vocals and MISA on her big yellow bass!

19:02 “That riff reminds me of something.” That feeling will happen now and then with the Maids. They blend genres often using musical devices from past eras in brand new ways. I know of many Band Maid “things” that trigger musical memories and you got one! That riff is a staccato version of Papa Roach “Last Resort,” from way back in 2000.
