Really cool that you talked about health and well being for musicians. Somewhere there is an article or an interview of Akane talking about how she had really bad posture and it was causing her problems and how she has worked on it. You can totally see this in the YT video of her doing the MTH Benjo Sandal Dance Cover. She is slouched really bad. Then if you look at her current posture it looks so much straighter. Great review!

I've seen Band-Maid 10 times (8x's on the rail) since October 2022. Every show was better than the last one. Band-Maid is the only band that I could watch live at least once a week and never get bored or tired of. Every time seeing them is an exciting experience, because there is always something new to see and hear. It never gets old. Excellent Composition + Excellent Lyrics + Excellent Musicianship + Excellent Vocals = Band-Maid.

Akane used to play more hunched over, and hurt her back. She retrained herself on all of her basics to play for longevity. It’s crazy how relaxed she looks playing all of their super complicated stuff now. Her stamina is incredible, and even just the memory you need to play their music with how often she switches up the beat is really impressive. Not to mention the creativity to write all those switch ups. Amazing drummer.

I’m originally a keyboard player, but recently picked up bass. It’s really making me appreciate more how insanely tight that bass/kick needs to be for this stuff to groove like it does. Band Maid is just unfair man. So damn good. All of them ridiculously good. Even crazier how the guitarist is harmonizing and playing her lead line at the same time like bro wtf😂 and the drummer with that sixtuplet fill every song she’s got it down so good lol. So much stuff to learn and appreciate from them. The learning curve on bass is kicking my ass rn, but hope I can rock like this eventually 🤟🏾

I did fly to Japan in October (from the UK) to see them. And I chose four small venues too. The smallest was in Akita, the venue capacity was 350 - and we reckoned it was way less than that. It was a traditional Japanese live house, basically a basement with a stage. No barriers, no security, it was incredibly hot and incredibly loud! (Kanami's family were in the audience too). The other venues were Sendai (cap 1500), Sapporo (cap 500) and Otaru (cap 500). They blew the roof off every time! They seem to play a lot of tiny venues on their anniversary tour, maybe for the last time, who knows?

Wow, what an excellent immersive experience at Corallium. The recording of Shibuya Eggman helps a lot because being such a small place (capacity of 350 people standing, that gig was only for their fan club) the cameras were practically inside the stage. Corallium seems like a funky hybrid of pop punk and prog rock. Each instrument seems to be playing with the rest throughout the song, a complete 18th century style "divertimento". By the way, at 12:15 you mention how smooth Akane's technique is and how easy it is to get injured if you do things wrong. Well, in fact, she had to change her entire technique back in 2016 because she was injured for two months. Fans from all over the world sent her drumsticks wishing her a speedy recovery. Her style is now much more technical and refined. Thanks Tony!. A fantastic video, very informative and educational.

Did dawn patrol at the NC and MN shows this year and was on the rail in front of Kanami and then Saiki respectively and then saw them from the balcony in Denver. Being within arms reach of them is an unreal experience. IMO the absolute best experience you can have is to be on the rails in front of Saiki. Her crowd interaction is on an unreal level that I couldn't truly appreciate until I was standing there in front of her. The entire show she is having a back and forth with the first few rows. Pointing people out directly and demanding us to sing back to her. She says jump and everyone jumps and the way her face lights up every time is just absolute peek feelings I've ever had at a concert. I will do my best to have that experience as many times as possible going forward. And hopefully that will still be possible for a little while longer. And that's the thing about this band. They are happy to play a 5k person venue one night and then a 700 the next night in some random town.

I saw them in Salt Lake City on Aug 9th this year in a small club like this with about 700 others. Amazing! Completely and totaly amazing! There are no words that can express how you feel in these concerts. Afterwards you just kind of walk around in a daze. These women are so, so good. I am in my seventies and Had basically given up on music and then came Band Maid. It was like someone had breathed life back into my music world. You are so correct that someday you will only see them in the major concert settings and these experiences will be gone. My first Led Zeppelin concert was like this in a small venue and they changed my life back then. Band Maid has given me back that life. I am so so happy this band exists. These women are incredible. Please come back to SLC! Please!

A couple of notes. Corallium was the first Band-Maid song that Saiki wrote the lyrics for, Hate is the other one. Shibuya Eggman is a venue they played at regularly in their early years, so this show was very much a going home sort of thing for them so they were extra relaxed and having just a ton of fun with the nostalgia and comfort of it.

was at the Mercury show in NY in 2019.. THAT was a tiny venue. think they added that one after the other venue sold out, and it was VIP only.. maybe 200ish capacity. this was when they were still doing meet and greets.. and at this place, they had all five of em crammed shoulder to shoulder into the space of a nook, signing photos for people on their way in. had my spot at the far left right up to the stage by MISA. got some footage on my channel.. the songs got struck down despite not being able to discern anything due to the mic being completely blown out.. i was right next to the guy that shared MISA's whiskey. maybe it wasn't the best in terms of hearing the proper mix, but i sure felt all the low end rumble. at certain points they'd jump up closer to the crowd.. that bass was literally up against my face. what can i say.. MISA smelled nice. this was maybe the one and only time that Miku jumped down into the crowd.. no barriers.. she literally parted the crowd like the Red Sea. it was heckin unreal.. every year that passes i have the same worry that we won't be able to see the band in such small venues anymore. Eggman is a special case. I think the band will always have a spot there.. at least every once in a while appreciate the breakdown. i didn't even know they uploaded this one for fanclub members.. i'm backlogged on everything

I saw Band-Maid at the 700-capacity The Underground in Charlotte, NC, and it was very intimate. Although I opted for the comfort of a seat and table on a riser in my old age, I was still quite close as can be seen in some videos I posted. The song "Memorable" hit hard in this intimate setting. Shibuya Eggman is actually one of the early venues that they played in 2014 and 2015, possibly 2013 as well. They decided to play there one more time in 2022 even though they could have played in a way bigger venue. The last time they played it before that seemed to have been in 2018. I saw posts by them about how nostalgic it was to play again in that smaller club, it seemed like they have a lot of appreciation for it and that they are really appreciative to have gotten the chance to play there when they were still a really small band.

Fabulous breakdown, Tony! Maybe it's because I'm a "layers" guy, but I love learning about how each of the supporting parts fits together (vocals included) to make the whole. I think this is also a point of separation between Band-Maid and other rock bands: there are so many little features, countermelodies, rhythmic patterns, bridges, and all of them enhance the song. They can take the craziest material and form it into something compelling.

I have the same feeling about ever seeing Band-Maid at a small venue again. I kicked myself for missing the October '22 NA tour; it sold out so quickly. When they announced the Ten Ant tour I jumped on it and was delighted to see they scheduled two shows that I could drive to: St. Andrews Hall in Detroit and Sonic Temple in Columbus, OH. I was three rows back from Kanami in Detroit and St. Andrews is little more than a good sized bar; I doubt the crowd numbered over 900. It's amazing how much they interact with the crowd at small venues. My advice for those who want to see Band-Maid live is buy your tickets as early as you possibly can.

Always a pleasure man. As for Akane. Such a great 'musical' drummer. Imagine how she must have felt after the Yokohama concert. Thirty three songs in a three and a half hour show. Standing on the floor, as close as you can get, is the way to see BAND-MAID. Not that I don't want them to play arenas here in the states. I do. I just don't know how long I'll be able to be right up there near the front, so I couldn't help myself. Once they took the stage I was riveted. If you worried about never seeing them in a smaller venue, why don't we book a show for reactors only on their next tour? Maybe Denver. We could get everyone to put in a grand or so. Done Deal! However, I have a request. How about doing their April Fool's stuff like Miku's solo song, 'PEACE&LOVE', or BAND-MAIKO?

Sense, After Life, Play, FREEDOM, DICE, Daydreaming, about Us, Catharsis, endless Story, Corallium, Sayonakidori, from now on, Manners, Hibana, Honkai, Choose me, Unleash!!!!!, Different, Warning!, NO GOD, DOMINATION. Oh and Influencer in a rare encore. Thanks, Tony!

MISA MISA MISA!!!!! I was second row (front row where leaning on the actual stage) at the Echoplex LA 2019 for the October 1st Okyu-ji after being WAY WAY WAY in the back for the 30th Sep Okyu-ji. I was only about eight feet away from MISA.

"corallium" is extra special for b-m fans because this is the ice queen's first full lyric contribution. she wasn't too confident with her word skill and only jointly wrote with twin tails, until this. and the pop/rn'b tinge? it's a nod to saiki's oshi, namie amuro. she is the inspirational counterpart to twin tails' shiina ringo -- and they're two of the pop music overlords in contemporary japan. another thing, this song is a b-side to the single 'sense'. this, along with the latest song you analyzed and 'hibana', form an impeccable trifecta, which i personally see as a recording that can stand to toe with their full album 'unseen world'.

When I first heard "unseen world", I thought Band Maid themself will have hard time topping that album, but the next one, Small EP released in late 21 containing Sense, Hibana, Corallium, it was only three songs but IMHO each one those songs, easily topped "Unseen World", melody, arrange, technically almost every aspect of making a good music., This EP is something should be recorded in the history of Rock album,, if there's are such thing.

I was in the front row, just in front of Miku in Kumamoto to open their 10th Anniversary tour and it was awesome! I was literally about 1 meter from the stage. Miku was close enough where she put a pick in the hands of a teenager standing next to me. It was awesome! Because I was so close, at one point Saiki directly looked me in the eyes when she was singing (I'm not saying she sang to me, she was just close enough that we could see each other). The venue sold out and only holds about 6-700 people.

Ive heard given how hard she hits and complex her drumming can be, Akane has had to come up with ways to play that help her conserve energy so she can last a full set - so she does have very smooth and clean and efficient motions- and whatever else she does that helps her not get nackered lol.

Saw them at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, October 2022. Great venue, about 900 capacity. I was about 5 rows back; close enough for Miku's guitar pick to land on my arm. They are really great interacting with the crowd. You should take a look at Vladimir Chupin's Boston videos to get an idea of the place.

Shibuya Eggman is such an underrated and overlooked treasure. In part because TGT 23' came right on its heels a few weeks later. And in part because of its perceived sense of heavy post production (probably what led to TGT 23' barely if at all being touched up) Personally I Love it! Its like a 2 plus hour long Pre-Shot Live Music Video that although not raw has rawness to it. It wasn't a Live Stream and was not designed to be Captured as one. You can expect and get that rawness from Live Streams.

I don't even think it's biased to focus on Misa. Akane's a world class drummer and Kanami's a world class guitarist, but Misa's something special, a generational talent at minimum.

Honestly, I hate to compare other bands vs B-M. But, after listening to Akane's drumming and Misa's bass for many years now, the songs from a good band like Warning (whom get such high laurels now a days) get kind of boring to me even trying multiple listens to try to like them. I am not trying to troll here. I really mean it. I do think the Warning are a good band: the lead vocal is fantastic (a little shouty, though) and bassist is pretty good and beautiful. But the rhythm section just can't compare. Akane does not go all ham on metal drumming or just simple rock beats and stuff. She goes full spectrum. Just listen to her "Wonderland" to "secret My lips". I mean, she can go full disco or Jazz to metal at times. And I can listen to B-M all day vs. most metal bands. Band-Maid is very interesting band. You will see the difference once you realize about B-M's rhythm section. Just pay attention to the bass and drumming and then compare to other bands. I think your average hard rock bands out there can't compare. And I will readily admit that I don't think Kanami is the best guitarist in the world but still is my favorite guitarist. That's from a person who grew up listening to Al DiMeola, Masayoshi Takanaka, Larry Carlton, Mark Knopler, and Carlos Santana, etc. Plus, she still is a genius composer.

As far as the Warning 100% agree as it's just not my cup of tea because I find it boring simplistic and repetitive. That doesn't make that gospel but it's just how I hear them. A friend gave me a free ticket to see them in NYC. 20 min in, I was hanging out by the bar BS'ing with the Bartenders waiting for the show to end. I ended up covering dinner and drinks for the rest of the night because I felt guilty for wasting my friends ticket.

@@Studio-Coast_KidYeah, I see where you are coming from. I really tried, more than once, to like the Warning. They do have some good songs but after a while, they just seem boring to my ears. Of course, I find many other rock/hard rock or even metal bands boring. That's why I love Band-Maid. You get all sort of a mixture of genre with them. It's so fun and interesting.
