received my Aftertop PD3.1 today and happy so far. i mainly got it for the removable AC cable feature so that was the first thing i tested and it works great ! it's absolutely brilliant every charger should use this design. my old macbook uses something similar but the solution used by Aftertop is actually more elegant as with Apple you had to remove the regular plug before connecting the AC cable. Aftertop also works with my 15W Samsung Wireless Charging Stand which didn't work with any of my USB-A adapters including genuine Samsung ones ! Until now it worked only with its own included Samsung USB-C Fast Charging adapter but now it also works with the Aftertop, because apparently it only works with Power Delivery adapters. Shipping from Amazon was blazing fast. Unfortunately i can't test PD3.1 yet but on Wednesday i should be able to test it to charge the Anker 737 power bank at 140W.

Nice! It is amazing how fast these companies are putting these chargers out now. From two months ago, apple, to now, I have about 10. This power extension is on lots of chargers. Wotobeus, which is also made by Vina, as well as Prolink uses this same tech.

You are doing a great service for the world, thanks for testing chargers and cables. I think the chart could include a Price to Performance chart line as well. If I can get a $50 PD3.1 charger that can do 95% as good as a $99 charger, that is good to know. Anker 737 EPR battery is $149 but on Oct 11-12 Prime day it was only $99, sold out before I could get it, but I'm looking out on Nov. Black Friday in 3 weeks. if you see any PD3.1 chargers coming for Black friday, maybe a Shorts video on them would be awesome.

Thanks, yeah, I don't want to help people too much with a cost to performance number, haha. Also, the cost is a variable so tough to keep it consistent over time, which is why I put a year with it since next year it may be different. But yeah, I can do some shorts on deals I see happening, that isn't a bad idea, I actually just picked up the idmix 140W adapter for $50 USD! I am still learning all this stuff so no idea if I can help promote something to benefit the channel too, which then directly buys more power adapters and power banks...

Yeah, I have thought about it. In general weight is of most concern so I include that. Size is so close on similar sized power level adapters in almost every case. The Anker is the standout for 140w, but we're still talking ~10% volume change, in a luggage or travel situation, weight matters a lot (over weight costs you money), size/volume are not so important from an overall luggage standpoint, the thing this powers is going to be much larger than the adapter, and at least for 'usb power adapters' even the apple 140w fits in with bigger things. I could add a power to volume ratio or something but I actually don't catalogue weights or sizes of any adapters, some are long gone at this point (see teardowns, ha), so it would be a going forward kind of thing. For the top adapter comparison can do the power denisty, weights, and volumes though, except ugreen 20w, still category winner, that one is in pieces.

Got the ugreen for 65€, which makes it a great deal imo. Since I mostly use it to power all my devices with 1 wallwart while away from home the idle power consumption isn't a big issue for me. Great in-depth review, thanks :)

Anker by far my favorite after trying elecjet, satechi, ugreen, and Co. The Ugreen 200W died after 11 months (and the cable connection already started to fail after 3 months). Satechi wasn't able to charge any of my devices over 80%. Now I have 3 chargers: 65w Nano Anker, 120w Anker (Pikachu edition, yellow), and the 150W Prime Anker. Fabulous to travel, gives you 6 USB-C and 2 USB 2, perfect for full time travelers with macbook pro m2, cameras, phones, tablets and drone, all being charged at night simultaneously and ready to use after breakfast (even before, when my own batteries are fully charged) :-)

i just noticed in a image of your test setup does your AC power come from a variac? If so you might be adding distortion to the AC sine wave. This was something I ran into and only use the variac when I need to change the voltage.

I actually have an isolation transformer, multiple variacs, filters, and one small AC power supply (THD from this is worse than the variac so I don't use it). You are correct though and excellent observation. I measure the AC voltage distortion in all tests, I don't publish this since for general people I think it is already confusing enough, I make sure it is around 2% or less at idle and the variac is no where near full load so it doesn't introduce significant additional distortion. I may see a 1% voltage THD increase in some cases, often the adapter is the cause of this increase with it's massive non-linearity, you will see this with or without the variac in place, an AC power supply can artificially force this to go away but that isn't fair or real either. The issue I ran into is the studio lights, power analyzer, and other equipment all introduce noise onto the circuit so I have to pull my variac power from an outlet far away to reduce the noise as much as possible. If I plug in local the THD is 3-4% on voltage from the local devices poor power factors reshaping the wave, direct off the wall it is the same as from the variac. Yes, I want to get an AC power supply for the future, and they are very expensive, very large, and loud also, and many are still over 2% THD at low output wattages (now with a light load you introduce switching noise from the AC power supply). So, even then for the video I'd continue to use the variac since it is quiet. Until I have $15,000 kicking around to get a decent AC power supply, I will stick with the variac.

@AllThingsOnePlace Some small improvement feedback after binge watching a long list of your videos. 1. How about to add a mark "I would buy it" or similar and be able to filter for it? In the end that's what matters the most for me and probably for the average user. 2. Idle noise is very annoying in daily use, I see you mention it in comments sometimes. This would be an exclude decision for me buying an adapter. Can you include in the database? 3. Another include or exclude for buying is the safety. A teardown for the top performers would be a must for me - I loved your video on the cheap adapter teardown. And actually this is one aspect that probably doesn't change from device to device, so don't need statistical sampling for it. 3. For the database, it took me a while to find out how to search for 30W, 65W, etc. adapters... Maybe a note to explain how to find? Based on your videos I concluded that only 100W and above adapters are worth considering, I wanted to select those in the filter. 4. I clicked on the affiliate links, and some of the links to Amazon brings up other listings, like cables. Do you know why is this? I rather buy on AliExpress, a picture in the database would be helpful to be able to find them on other sites. 5. I didn't find the link to the database neither from the KZread description in the first videos I watched, nor from the website. I would update the older video descriptions. 6. Do you have an updated video on explaining what the technical terms mean, beside the one linked in the description? You could make a video explaining the 3 things included in the PQS score, and another one about other data you measure in the database, and link it to the description all the time. Those could be highly watched videos. 7. Do you base your measurements on one sample only? How much power adapters vary from unit to unit? At least for the top performers, I would include statistical sampling, buying 3-5 units from different batches. 8. As a future topic for videos: AliExpress has also a big user base. I would consider buying and testing the top performers from AliExpress, and include affiliate links if they do it. These could generate some more views for your videos. 9. Another topic could be testing adapters from the WireCutter blog, which is often a popular destination for these topics. 10. I use a Samsung. How do I find out if a charger can charge it with the fastest speeds or not? I think I have to look for PPS features and it would be nice to filter for this feature in the database. Also a video comparing and explaining PD, PPS etc. would be interesting and would be a "timeless" content. 12. What is power factor correction in detail? You said in the Samsung 45W video "It is torturing your grid" - what does it mean? A video on this topic would be useful. Also, it seems like a feature that is missing from many power adapters, or only used in certain scenarios - would be nice to be able to filter for it. 13. What I miss a lot are links in your database to the KZread videos of the adapters, and affiliate links in the database. In the end what I am interested in: filter for adapters that you recommend, with features that I need (ports, wattage, charging compatibility with my device, safety, noise), and an easy way to buy them. 14. I would test more the websites' look and features from a mobile phone. I watched KZread 90% from my phone, and looked at your sites from the mobile browsers only. 15. If you want to monetise more, and improve your channel, I recommend the courses from AliAbdal, MKBHD, and the marketing course of 5lightbulbs. I hope you find these helpful. Otherwise, excellent work, I love the data based decision making that you make, it is so much missing in the KZread reviews space.

Thanks for the detailed review! I saw all of your recent reviews on the Rocoren 140W, Anker 737 120W, and Baseus 140W. But from my own research I found the Ugreen to put out the least amount of heat (50C for 100W after 30 mins compared to 60C+ on all others) which is also very important thing to mention. Did you test the temperatures of those after a 30 mins~ run?

Yeah, I do run them for a while, I usually don't specifically time it. The Rocoren does get to above 60C after 30 minutes but that was at 140W. I've run that one for over an hour several times though charging the power banks that can take 140W on USB C.

Amazing work as always, I am wondering though, is there a place to submit power adapters to your testing list? I have a brand that I like and I would like to see how they stand up to a test like this. I'm referring to the aukey omnia series, just in case this comment is a good way to add them to your list.

I don't have a specific place for people to submit power adapters to a list besides the comments section. Leave a new comment on any video and I will get it and reply (at least while the channel is still small). I should startup a google doc though it will quickly exceed what I could possibly get tested as an individual. I haven't looked at Aukey yet because laziness mostly, they aren't on Amazon or any local places (the usual big box chains, USA) that I have seen.

It would be awsome if you could review the Cygnett ChargeUp Pro 27k PD. I cant find any decent reviews of the power bank anywhere online and have heard that they can get quite hot during full discharge.

I have been looking for a good one, I have eight of them and they are all bad in one way or another. The PowerZ one is more of a power meter and it isn't bad at that part, it tells you what protocol you are using but I don't see where it tells you all the capabilities. But many are plagued by either an unusable user interfaces or inaccurate data or both. I really just want a protocol display, but then they cram in power meters which aren't very good and lots of other things I don't want, more doesn't mean better. Anyway, yeah, this one looks promising so I will pick one up.

I agree all the Ugreen are way over priced compared to the competition when Rocoren is pretty good and only $59 with coupon sales days.

Really great to have found you channel! Btw, I am a MacBook user and had been haunted by static while pluging in since the day of magsafe 1, unless I used the extended cord with earth connector. Now all MacBook comes with USB c charger and I am curious if all UCB charger suffer from this issue? Is there any specific brand/ model do better than others regarding this issue? Thanks!

Yeah, that is a tough one. There is a reason a lot of laptop power adapters have an earthing pin. It is probably not going to be solved unless you get a power adapter that has that feature. Not many do until you get into the larger wattage categories (200w ugreen has earth pin). Unfortunately, it is a such a specific problem that only some people have I think experimentation is the way to solving it.

I'm really interested in PPS, looking to build a universal (high current) CC/CV charging adapter/trigger without a redundant buck/boost converter. Glad you mentioned the UGREEN supports PPS to 20V... quite rare. Would be interesting to see PPS tests in the future!

Yeah, I have a list that would take 5 years to get through at one video a week. I am going to have to start sorting or grouping things more. Yeah, I added PPS mention and power/voltage of the PPS mode to all the newer videos. It is so odd that some large chargers only have an 11V and 33W PPS mode.

got my Anker 737 140W power bank a day early. plugged in the Aftertop charger and got 130 watt charging rate ... but after 10 minutes the Aftertop was almost too hot to touch so i unplugged it, the Anker 737 was barely warm. i knew it wouldn't be up to scratch when i realized it is closer in size and weight to my 40W Anker AC adapter than my 180W dell AC adapter. it's probably going back to Amazon.

Requested refund for the Aftertop. Ordered Anker GanPrime 747 150W as replacement. It will of course only provide 100W instead of 140W to the Anker 737 Power Bank but i actually see this as a feature, not a bug. By charging at a slightly lower rate components will be safer. Of course it sucks paying $120 for a 100W charger when i had a 140W charger for $69, but the combination of unknown brand, no safety listing and apparent overheating did not sit well with me. I was unable to find any website for Aftertop AT ALL and when i found the site for Vina it was typical Chinese stuff - broken English, completely random information that doesn't add up and so on - basically didn't inspire any additional confidence in me. the reason i didn't go with Anker the first time is the PPS tops out at 11V and i wanted PPS with 21V but in the end i decided i would rather have a product that runs cooler than a product that runs faster. Ugreen says it monitors temperature but doesn't say what it does with that information ( does it wait until overheating then go into protect ? ) Vina says nothing at all. only Anker explicitly states that it "adjusts power" which is what i want to see. Wish GanPrime did PPS at 21V but we don't live in a perfect world.

I now have the Rocoren 140w as well as the Ugreen 140w adapter and I've charged my Anker 140w power bank powercore 24k. Let me tell you, charging the power bank at full power, ANY adapter is going to get really really hot. Both the Rocoren and Ugreen got too hot to touch. Comparing to the Anker 747 running at 100w is no comparison. It's best to charge the Anker 140w power bank with a 100w cable than the supplied 140w cable. This kept the Rocoren and Ugreen considerably cooler. Lesson. Just because you can push 140w doesn't mean you should. And maybe it's alright.

Having the Shargeek 140W would have been nice here

Yeah, the UGREEN's that has the Japanese safety listing is a big step in the right direction. At least it has gone through the official compliance testing process and has documented meeting the requirements. The UGREEN stuff that has nothing and nothing documented online not so much.

You should start twisiting your lab test cables. Just to keep them out of the equation more.

haha, yeah, at these frequencies it doesn't matter, it would make it look nicer though could actually cause some issues too. There are many wires that specifically don't cross in the AC power analyzer path. The AC voltage sense leads could themselves be a shielded twisted pair (finding something with the voltage handling is the next challenge there) instead of loose wires. The current sensing actually can't be twisted since it comes from a different spot and goes to the plug (it could be shielded but if you have that close coupling to a shielded/earthed cable, more problems are introduced than you solved). Yes, could do a different type of current sensor and run a coaxial cable, impedance matched, and setup the voltage input or use an active probe, etc. but we are talking about ~200 kHz, and you would lose DC accuracy, yes I measure the DC component, zero typically. You can pretty much run the wire around the room and back and it won't be worse for wear. Also, when you twist the pairs you introduce significant capacitance which the power analyzer will see as higher VA use. Yes, an extension cord uses power and this analyzer can measure that, does it matter or is it significant, not on it's own. The load tester is even lower frequency, also DC, but yeah, that could benefit from twisted pairs, but the same issues also applies here, the inputs are not impedance matched, specifically the load tester does whatever it wants for resistance, so you'd have to match every wire to every possible load setting for less than the accuracy of the instrumentation of change. If I was scoping the DC output for switching noise, then yes, absolutely twist the wires or use coaxial cables, keep the ground close (loop small), etc.

For a performance level machine I lean on getting an OEM dell power adapter. They are good. In general I worry about the USB style having enough power, also there are some compatibility issues.

I would like a video on Smallest/best chargers for EDC bag to go with my Pinecil soldering iron. This might include power banks too of course. they need to be min PD20V 65W, 3-3.25 amps though or they won't run the iron very well.

@@AllThingsOnePlace yes you need to update firmware, to clarify. (1) Pinecil V2 runs completely on Open Source or FOSS firmware (Github Ralim's IronOS). Ralim/team made a best effort in ver 2.18 it to make it PD3.1 compliant with USB-IF specs. it works out of the gate as is with Apple 140W & Anker 737 battery (3) however, there are "interpretations" of USB-IF spec that we discovered the different chip makers in the chargers followed. to make Pinecil work with Baseus/Kovol/Roceron 140, you need beta 2.19 firmware. One issue was Usb-if says padding should be ignored, but those chargers ignore pinecil unless 0x00 is specified. on the USB-IF page explaining padding is to be ignored, they have 0x00 those 3 brands do not ignore padding and want 0x00 sent . I suspect the chip in all 3 of those brands is same maker b/c one fix, then fixed it for all pine people with those different brand chargers. (4) Anker 717 was a different issue in negotiation, & was also fixed. As of right now with 2.20 beta, we have no new complaints of any other brands of 140W EPR chargers not working as the PD 3.1 communication was finessed. (5) I recommend you get 2.20 beta firmware to work with all different PD3.1 chargers people have reported to us. if you join the discord channel for the Pine64 community, we can help you with it as you need the temporary flasher we have (in the pins in discord). I can not post links in youtube or they delete comment, but google Pinecil Wiki, in there is how to join pine64 community chat. (6) It really only takes 2 minutes to Flash firmware and you can not brick Pinecil. Wiki page will show you where you can buy one, pine store also sells one on Amazon-usa. Pine store ships from shenzhen and has more of the "pine items" they make for FOSS community to develop on. and they also will have 2 chargers as of November, they don't just white brand the chargers, but take a common Mold, and then make their own specifications for the internals to improve it over what you might find on Ali Xpress or something. (7) Normally there would be instructions on Github on how to update firmware for Pinecil. however because V2 is new & is using a new MCU brain from Bouffalo, we need a new flashing method, that is being worked out, hence we have a temporary (easy) to use flasher that has no bells and whistles right now - really it's easy, no more than 2 min to upgrade from 2.18 stock to 2.20 beta. many volunteers around to help you. if you can't find pinecil Wiki page to get link to discord, just open ticket in Github IronOS that you need help getting Flasher and the Beta 2.20 for V2 Pinecil to use with EPR charger. Ralim or I will see the ticket and can get you flasher, it's just not published bc it only meant to be temporary until the better flasher is coded (by volunteers). (8) there is a hidden PD menu in Pinecil V2 you might like that shows you the PD communication between Pinecil and the charger, Ralim did a good job exposing some really cool debug things in the screen menu system. Pinecil also acts a a "mini" level usb tester if you put it into Detailed view mode.

Thank you for the great work. Really enjoying your content. I have a couple of questions. As i am from the EU and these devices come with different plugs here, is it possible this affects the quality and the same device with an EU plug actually has worse performance because of that? I am looking forward to your Anker 511 (Nano 3) video coming next month. In your calendar it says it is 20W. Is this a typo as i can only see a 30W model. Also do you plan on reviewing the new UGREEN Nexode 30W (which i am not sure is available yet in the US) as a competitor to the Anker.

Yeah, you are correct nano 3 511 is 30w. I will fix that. There are some differences, in general the idle power consumption is higher on higher voltage but the efficiency can be a little better since the current is lower so it is a trade off. Also, power factor circuits are less effective at low power levels on 230V systems. Every device is a little different but in general the results will be similar. There is actually a change in the calculation and data presented if tested with 230V/50Hz systems the formulas will switch to the EU 2019/1782 and the AU/NZ 4665 but I haven't done any official tests with those devices yet. Opportunity for improvement.

I bought the Nexode 140w. If I plug in the charger three cable but only one is plugged in the notebook and the other two aren't connected...the charging power will be 140w or is considered three port array?

As long as the other two cables are USB C to C cables the device will be able to use 140 watts on the other port. If the cables have another end like magsafe for example, that will prevent the 140W mode from working.

How is the Baseus 140w charger? Also i am not sure how Ugreen or others will hold up in long run compared to Anker

Yes, that is the running question, and as soon as my Baseus adapter blows up I will be making a video about it! Anker has more experience with designing and dealing with heat issues in power adapters and they use this to make, what is today, a very good product. The software side of things isn't great: like choosing when to turn on and off PFC is bad, they copied others that don't do it so well.

Thanks for the vids if you would advise a gan power adapter at these point what would it be? I'm looking for one over 100w. Also looking for a travel adapter that can that this 😁 any advise on this?

I don't like recommending blanketly because there are a lot of options out there and use cases wildly vary. I recommend something with a safety listing that is appropriate to location, then obviously reasonable performance specs. For 120W the Anker is not bad (as long as you aren't spending too much time at 5V), if you need the PD 3.1 (140W on one port), then the Rocoren is a decent choice, no idea how long it will last since it is a pretty unknown brand to me. The choice is yours.

@@blackburd5 a new IDMIX 140W charger that AllthingsOnePlace just got for $50 has slots in it that allow for 3 tips of clip on Travel adapters actually. same IDMIX company that sells the charger also has the 3 pack of adapters sold separately. Brand is IDMIX 140W PD 3.1 charger (on ama zon).

Yeah, I am not aware of any devices that will do that. You can get a cheap buck module from eBay/Ali-Express/Amazon and a 20V PD Trigger and be able to pull 100W at 12V as long as the module can handle that. I should just make these combo things (someone has already done this somewhere I am sure) and put it on a store or something, haha. I'd probably sell 2 a year but whatever it's just fun.

Thanks, I have some of these here already and will look at the others. The biggest issue I have with these is some won't charge anything more than a phone, since its essentially two smaller adapters glued together, see monoprice 40w dual port.

Oh, yeah, I haven't seen that yet (on anything I have here). I would not use a test sample power adapter (that isn't a retail adapter) you don't know what modifications were done or what the chain of custody of the adapter is. It could have been seriously abused before making it's way to you and be ready to fail, or it could be a late engineering sample and be perfectly fine. The risk is yours!

Once again great review! Really appreciating all of them. Another video idea since I was just thinking about it, can you explain all those symbols on the wall adapters/power strips, etc? Like the house symbol, double square and all that. Anker has an interesting symbol (triangle inside a circle) that I couldn't find online.

They latch onto the product, in this case it is specifically molded to this adapter. Some are interchangeable, some not. I haven't found a third party making them.

I'm actually considering the ugreen 140w charger because it splits the c slots in a way I like - both at 60W so I can make the most of my charger by doing two fast charge 60W powerbanks. But I want to travel with it and use different sockets. Can that be done with a charger that doesn't have replaceable socket clips? Is there a piece of tech I don't know about? I know from experience those socket adapters are good for a 60W charger without blowing but can something be done for a 140W charger to adapt to foreign sockets?

You can buy one of the multi-country adapters. Make sure you get one with proper shutters and earth pin, if applicable. I have a few I want to check out eventually, that aren't also USB adapters.

Thanks for your vids and replies. I've actually been "backpack living" for a long time with more of this type of living ahead. I commented on your 200W chargers previously as well and said I might get the Ugreen 200. Now I'm thinking again that I'll just get the 200 instead of the 140 even though airlines limit me to two powerbanks (which the 140 charger would satisfy because I decided for sure the Green Cell powerplay 65W banks are the best for me). My thinking now about the 200W charger is that it has that swappable cord so I don't have to mess around with plug adapters which I decided I don't like (when I need a foreign plug for the charger). And I just can't confirm one way or another if those adapters are a good idea for 130+ watts. But definitely a local cable inspires more confidence than an adapter. And generally the 200W just looks better and gives me the option to charge three 65 watt banks if I want to do that occassionally. Anyway thanks for helping me think through this. I know a couple of the Anker banks can charge faster than the banks I chose but since I'm charging two and sometimes three banks, the Ankers hog so much of the chargers output wattage that their speedy charges become a moot point when only one or one and a half of them can be charged at a time even with a 200W charger - and the Green Cells have more capacity and they say a higher (90%) useable capacity. So I think they're good. I mean ideally you or somebody could confidently tell me "hey you can actually rely on such and such brand socket adapters for the 140W ugreen charger without them getting fried" but from what I've seen of everybody and every company leaving the specifics out or giving intangible info about these things, I am currently stuck with making the safe choice of going with the unfortunately heavier and bulkier and more wattage than I actually need Ugreen 200W simply because of that swappable cord.

@@danielhouston8725 I guess one way to look at it is power sharing, a 200W power brick will easily handle the 130 watts for a long period of time. A 140W power brick is going to be right at the edge of it's capabilities so possibly a shorter life span. The swappable cord is a bonus. You certainly have the minority use case to most users though. Another option is getting two lighter and cheaper 100W adapters? Certainly spoiled for choice.

Yes thanks again, yes I considered getting two 65W ugreen chargers which have a combined weight less than the 140W charger but for my circumstances I need to be able to capitalise on a single outlet. So two chargers needs two plugs or it needs a headache of an internet search (more than I've already spent hours on) to get two plugs into a single socket and solve the international outlets problem. So yes I think the 200W charger with removable cord is the best option, or only option if I also want a simple and bullet proof solution.

Idle shouldn't be an issue if your used to unplugging the charger when not in use, right? Idle means it's not charging any device?

Yes, I use one of these that's not great on idle. I just switch it off when not in use.

Brands, but no models, no datasheets, all locked down under NDA. It's sad, the chips are probably lasered too, so a teardown isn't going to get you anything either.

@@AllThingsOnePlace i don't deny that resources are finite - i just like to have a sense of perspective. a modern house has 200 amp service @ 240V that's 50,000 watts - what difference does 0.05 watt make ? it isn't worth the viewer's time to mention it. the elites who tell us not to flush our toilets to save water all fly private jets with 5,000 gallon fuel tanks. we can and should take meaningful steps to conserve resources, for example i drive a plug-in Hybrid, but shaving 0.05 watts off a phone charger isn't meaningful. there is a fine line between raising awareness of issues and wasting people's time. what really pissed me off though is in one of your videos during unboxing you tossed an included protective bag that had an included cable inside of it without even bothering to look for that cable and then proceeded to weigh the packaging. by contrast ChargerLAB measured the length of the cable and zoomed in on the pins to show the cable has no pins for data, only power. he focused on information that was relevant to viewers and you focused on information relevant to the department of energy and EPA. you can do better - i believe in you LOL.

Yes, a house can do 50,000 watts (really VA not watts whole other bag of cans) but if you used that much your electric bill would be real scary also if everyone did that, grid goes down, fast. I agree vehicles can save more for an individual and make a bigger impact by one person, but power adapter idle consumption is a measurable component of waste because they're always on and there are 100's of millions of devices (US alone). The DOE standards exist and should be pointed out for several reasons. It is a point of comparison, the UGREEN is easily measurably worse. Also, the UGREEN made a claim on the device and didn't meet that claim, yes sample size 1, but it's surprisingly repeatable. Adding repeatability reproducibility numbers is a to do that adds no apparent value to the viewer but adds credibility to the science. Yes, I've tested the same thing 20 times, yes, I've tested repeats of adapters of same make from different manufacturers, no that data isn't available, time. So, is it more to point out not so nice practices of a company and also it points out and maybe the DOE number is too strict, it is to strike conversation and yes complain that it doesn't matter if it doesn't, so I get it. If it didn't matter though the requirement wouldn't exist, neither would energy star or any of these other programs. There is a great read online where companies condemn the DOE VI requirements saying it'll destroy all industry. Can you let me know which video had the cable tossed aside? I mean I ravenously rip them open sometimes, that's somewhat comedic effect, also they're already tested before I open them on video. Video magic, everything you see is totally out of order. Also, I suck at editing, graphics, pretty much the whole process, I am a total noob I mean 4k subs is still a beginner. In terms of what I do with the samples and packages, I usually just show pieces of the unboxing, I do take all the cables out, I actually test all the cables too but I keep that separate, then everything goes back into the box. I don't have high speed data testing capabilities, if the channel grows then yes I will add stuff like this, so the cable testing is based on charging abilities. I have a cheap tester on the way that shows what pins are connected really quickly though, got it from Tindie. Chargerlab is a different channel, they have their own style, I do like it though I don't want to make an exact copy. No video is perfect, mine are far from perfect and I do put effort in, I focus more on electrical characteristics than the products themselves and will continue to do so. Sometimes I mix in a little education, but most people skip those parts or those videos entirely... probably because they aren't very good and I'm no teacher. Anyway, I do appreciate the comment and feedback and I will try to do better. I am keeping the DOE stuff in though!

Love your video! In my country we only have limited choices for 140w chargers: 1. Baseus 140w / $58 (still on pre order) 2. Ugreen 140w / $45 Should I buy Ugreen or wait for Baseus? I know! I need to do that times like 5 or 10 videos. They usually don't do so great video performance wise (it's not the videos fault, it is mine for being bad at making content, ha). Anyway, it is a goal to get more of that type of video out too, being a very part-time thing I don't always get to things as timely as I would like. I hope UGREEN will be fine in most cases and it is just a matter of choosing not to get certs for products.

Not at all. That's a decent charger and perfectly okay to charge a macbook with. It doesn't have power factor correction but the numbers are low enough that it becomes an insignificant change in cost to operate with or without power factor correction, as long as its one and not 10 of them, ha.

It is surprising how bad the media coverage is on this device. 120W charging, 20 minutes, no mention that is with a proprietary charger and that it isn't compatible with the USB specification. No idea if it will work at anything more than 5V-3A with one of these chargers.

Under intense workloads, you may run out of power, so the battery will actually drain to compensate while it can. Then it will throttle based on the power adapter plugged in. In general computers are extremely peaky so there isn't really sustained load unless you are rendering or running heavier applications, large cad models, video editing, gaming, simulations, etc. So, case dependent, yes you can lose some performance, how often does that happen is highly variable. If it's office and light work, no difference.

Anker is more experienced and has so much market share they can afford mistakes. If you don't need 140W on one port I would go with the 737.

Yeah, it's in the specification but they don't have them on the market yet. Due to the PoE market though they may actually exist at some point.

The Donggauan is only 1-port so is it fair to compare to multi-port ones without qualifiers? Looks like they want it to "look" exactly like an Apple 140w replacement which also only has 1-port ( I have apple, I don't like it, overprice, HUGE, heavy brick with only 1 port is all the reasons I hate the apple one). is reason Dongguan can do better is it only has one port? It would be nice to havfe at least 2 ports so you can charge a phone too, not just Macbook 2022. would be nice if we also had a chart comparing price to features and testing. what I mean is Option 1 may be cheaper but only has 1 port. Option 2 is same price , has 2 ports for my convenience, and is slightly worse for performance than option 1. For all of us I think Price does also matter and having more than 1 port might matter too. Unless you are comparing the most tiny portable chargers in which people would take just 1-2 ports and sacrifice because they need smallest charger possible. That said, have you seen on Ama zon the FLAT ultra thin USB-C PD 65W 20V chargers? they are awesome in laptop bag and only size of a Business card (for real). I've been testing 2 of them all week, work great, yes it gets warm but not burning hot, it is thinner than a USA dime, so no insulation to hide heat, but it seems great. my friend has been using his more months than me. Check out the Trebleet for $19.99 , search "Ultra Thin 65W USB C Charger" or "flat 65W usb c charger" . these are super cute, value price, and work.

I have one of the ultra-thin adapters, I haven't tested it yet but I expect it will be sacrificing something to achieve the small size. Anyway, it is fair to compare similar power levels to similar power levels. Yes, everything has different feature sets, but that is the point. "this only has one port" is a distinguishing feature. It is still doing the same work on that one port as the others, do I prefer more, absolutely, which is why my daily driver chargers are all multiport options.

UGREEN has anyone had any safety issues with this one since it's not certified?

I think the reason people will choose UGREEN is the power distribution, the Rocoren is not great at multiple port outputs. If you just need 140W then I'd go for the Rocoren, if you want to use multiple ports, probably UGREEN. There are a few other rocoren like adapters that have better port sharing too.

Its really strange to see a no name Chinese brand being on top of the list. I am just truly amazed at how lazy name brand manufacturers are. They get far too cozy with their brand standing, and choose to no longer bring fourth innovation, which is not what you want from a company. I am getting so used to failure every time I watch your channel that I literally expect it now. And I was really hoping that a name brand would take home the crown, when it came to the new USB 3.1 spec. 140W should be enough power to power a chromebook, or any other thin and light notebook. Looks like if you don't stick a DongGong in your bun, the other's will just puke their guts out all over your power bill invoice.

Haha, I am not sure why they can't be bothered on these. There is some truth to skimping on safety features saving on efficiency so maybe the transformer is not safe or there are other components lacking but like I said at this price point I highly doubt it. It is more likely they didn't bother since they are the OEM and will individual companies will apply for that safety listing after rebranding the product. 3 or 4 more popped up on Amazon in this category. They do all look a little different but I am expecting to get a few repeats.

I should change the channel to Charge All the Things or CAT. I don't think there'd be any infringement issues with that. Although, the channel will eventually not be only chargers so nope. But for now, it's what's on the menu.
