Uganda now produces cooking oil from avocadoes

Local agri-businesses in Uganda have begun producing healthy and nutritious edible oil out of avocadoes. This is aimed at plugging the shortage caused by the conflict in Ukraine. The African nation produces a third of 120,000 metric tonnes of oil needed annually in the country.

@J C Different for Uganda, maybe. I never saw how they do it in Mexico, where the avocado is native, but they have done it long before the Spanish showed up. Chia (Mexican large seed) is usually extracted by crushing and simmering the seeds.

Uganda should be able to produce it's own cooking oil because it has abundant fertile soil to produce millions of tons of avocados and sunflower on mechanised farms. Currently, avocados and sunflower are produced on subsistence basis. Uganda also has the agricultural potential to become food self sufficient and ensure food security. What is preventing large scale mechanised agricultre is the endemic corruption and poor leadership by the previous governments and current government.

Corn is a terrible and unhealthy source of oil. It takes like 100 ears of corn to produce 5 tablespoons, not to mention benzene, bleaching and other toxic chemicals involved in the extraction process. Coconut, palm fruit, olives, and Avocado are naturally oily and healthy oil can easily be extracted without toxic industrial chemicals
