I played this for 5000 sailors while a radio dj on my aircraft carrier in 1979. This brought years to my eyes for the memory. I went up onto the upper deck to get a cup of coffee and could hear the song blaring throughout. Didn't think anyone was listening. Four days, the Skipper called the station and requested it. In the middle of the Indian Ocean no less. THANK YOU.

Gibson Flying V Heaven! What a guitarist.
Phil Mogg just had a career ending heart attack. Much love to one of my favorite bands since 1977. I was 14 in ‘77. Mention Pete Way ffs. I was at the “Lights Out in Chicago!” show. I’ve seen them 8x.
This is the stuff of which guitar heroes are made. I was lucky to see Schenker perform this in a small club when he was getting his career back together a few years ago. Great player.
Anything from Strangers in The Night is awesome.

Andy Parker, Pete Way and Paul Raymond don't get enough credit.... Nor does Phil.... After all, he did what every one else wanted to do.... He punched that spoiled brat Schenker in the face.... And Schenker ran to his brother.... And Rudy took him back.... And Mikey handily fucked his brother over on the verge of the first major US tour.... What a guy.

Yes, U F O/1977/Winterland, San Francisco, Ca. w/Rush on the Obsession/All The Worlds A Stage Tour. EPIC!!
Hi Rich and Kel, wanted to thank you for doing the UFO reactios . I'm a 57 year old man and I haven't heard that album in God only knows how long . It immediately brought on a flood of excellent memories. I had to listen to the whole album . Thank you so much for this one almost forgotten gem.
Paul Raymond's keyboards and rhythm guitar made a huge impact on their sound. Lights out, Obsession, and Strangers are all killer albums from this overlooked band. 8:48 Schenkers guitar starts to sound like it wants to explode and then when you think its reached the crescendo, he shifts into an even higher gear. His playing is mindblowing on this entire album.
UFO Rock Bottom.......... timeless...........masterpiece!.... ( IMO.....The greatest guitar riff ever written).
A massive shout out for the great Phil Mogg . First saw UFO at the Knebworth Fayre 1985 on the same bill as Alaska, Mountain , Mamas Boys , Blackfoot , Meatloaf , Scorpions and Deep Purple.
One of the best solo in the hstory of rock

One of my favorite albums that got me thru high school! Schenker Rocks!
Saw them in 1979 for Strangers Tour and forty years later just two weeks before we lost Paul Raymond. They were still as good with Phil Mogg, Andy Parker and Paul Raymond killing it! Rock Bottom still brought the house down!
Funny fact about this guitar solo: Michael Schenker, ever the perfectionist, was very unhappy with the solo. He demanded to re-record it in the studio but the producer, Ron Nevison, rightly refused him the chance to do it. The solo was perfect to everyone else but Schenker!

Ah… You did do this version of "Rock Bottom”. This is probably one of the best guitar solos ever recorded, especially this version. Michael ad libs a lot of the parts to this solo and rarely plays it the same way twice and of all of the versions I have ever heard him record of this song, this one is still his masterpiece as far as I’m concerned. This is one of the few guitar solos that runs on for minutes that I could never get bored listening too. Often times guitarists run out of tricks rarely quickly and begin repeating the same thing, but every phrase Michael plays in this solos is unique and have its own feeling. I think this is the most expressive solo have ever hear, not just some guy trying to show how fast he can play sets of triplets (think the eternal solos in Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The same triplets over and over for like 6 minutes). Michael can play as fast as any other guitarist, but he prefers to go for mood by expressing what he is feeling at the time and he was really on point the night this was recorded. The communication of feeling is what true art is all about. If the artist does not transfer his feelings to the audience, telling a story, then it is not art. This solo is pure art. A masterpiece of guitar. I am impressed to see that Kel can appreciate real art. Any woman who can identify real art, whether music, literature or the visual arts, is quite a catch for any man I am very lucky to also be married to a woman who knows art when she sees, hears or just experiences it. This is important to me since I am an artist and musician, so art is my life. It’s a bit sad that Kel wasn’t introduced to such art as this. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and of course the true artistry of Rush, but it is better than never being introduced to such great works of rock. There are many people who do not believe that any rock music is art, but they have clearly never heard work like this solo. Micheal Schenker is a legendary guitarist and rarely gets the credit he deserves. Keep on introducing Kel to these brilliant works of art, so she can add these pieces to her already rounded knowledge of beautiful creations in this world. I have seen that Kel enjoys Rush, she would really enjoy the song “Mission”, which is on their “Hold Your Fire” LP. The song is a celebration of the masterful works of art in this world, whether through music, literature, architecture and even the cinematic arts. Dig a bit deeper into the lyrics and it tells the story of the passion that drives the artist to create such works and eventually compares it more of a curse, because it seem that they were born to do a particular thing and are unable to ignore the call and often spend their life trying to achieve bringing it to the people, no matter the cost (basically the “starving artist” curse, which is actually true in more cases than not), at least this is what I get from the verse that says: “It’s cold comfort, to the ones without it (the talent) to know how they struggled, how they suffered about it”. I love the following line: “If their lives were exotic and strange (the non-artist), they would likely have gladly exchanged them for something a little more plain, maybe something a little more sane”. I hope you get a chance to let Kel react to it. Thanks for doing this version of Rock Bottom. I loved seeing her reaction to Michael’s guitar solo hearing it for the first time.

Agree withe everything you wrote except Rush and I'm Canadian....can't stand the band specially singer.
I was reading an article the other day which was an interview with Michael Schenker. He was asked about the fight that him and his brother Rudolph are having. He says that anything he did for the good of Scorpions, Rudolph took credit for. He said I saved Scorpions during The Lonesome Crow album and I never got a thank you from Rudolph for that. Then I left to join UFO. I saved UFO. I was never acknowledged for that. Then I saved Scorpions again when Uli Jon Roth left the band. That was the Lovedrive album. He said, I wrote Another Piece Of Meat, Lovedrive and Coast to Coast and Rudolph took credit for those songs. I don't care , he can claim them. He could have least thanked me for them.
My goodness! Another classic UFO tune! Love it and thank you for rejuvenating my old carcass. Rock on! I first discovered them via Columbia House Record Club when I was in High School in the late 1970's. It was either 'Lights Out' (I think 'Lights Out') or 'Obsession' that I first bought & heard of theirs and have been hooked since. Much love!

Imagine that, being teenage, stoned and drunk with floor seats. Wowzers!
when you listen to this you need to make sure your neighbours can enjoy it too.
I got to see them live twice in 1996 in a little tiny club in Palo Alto CA , out side Stanford U . Same line up as Lights Out , pushing the single Venus. Very Cool show !
Ya everybody says it but I was at the old Chicago Stadium for this show. Hands down one of the best live albums to come out of the 70’s.
From the same album; the versions of 'Natural Thing' and 'Out In The Street'. Some of the greatest guitar solos and TONE you will *ever* hear...

How about some Michael Schenker Group? "On and On" & "Desert Song" Michael does a lot of his old UFO and Scorpions stuff as well as his own creations. His guitar playing is epic!!

You missed them, like 99% of the musical world did. I was introduced in 1979 by my brothers. God bless them; they were at the Chicago night for the Strangers in the Night Tour. They are criminally unknown and underappreciated.

Schenker is doing solo albums now. MSG - McCauley Schenker Group has done some great songs with Robin McCauley on vocals. Like "This is my heart" and "Take me back". "Desert Song" is on the Assault Attack album and is just killer.
Saw UFO in 1978 at The Selland Arena in Fresno. They opened for Blue Oyster Cult. Another British band called The British Lions opened the show. Unbelievable concert! And it cost me all of $8.50. I was a teenager at the time and $8.50 was a lot of money for me then...
One of the best intros ever.
Always look for a live version for rock music these guys are serious musicians and play off adrenalin and crowd reaction
I saw this UFO Line up about a few months prior to this 1978 recording..........in October 1977. It was a 3 Band show at the Houston Music Hall: Max Webster, UFO, and RUSH. UFO was the 2nd act but was by far the Loudest and "ruled" the evening. Being there prompted me to eventually purchase the "Remastered" Strangers in the Night CD. 1977-78 was a big 2 year run for UFO and this band lineup was in my mind the "Classic" lineup.....or as good as it gets. You all did not waste your time reacting this and I would like to see more reactions from this CD.
I seen these guys 20 times, all with Schenker.
