Matt Hughes and Khabib have always kind of resembled eachother. Not with religion or country, but their non stop work ethic. I wish Matt had Khabibs striking he would be way more dominant than he was.

Nick Becker you forget when this was filmed, it’s a very different time. Matt Hughes was way a head of the game in terms of grappling and submissions. The bJJ wasn’t close to what it is now and the best welterweight on the planet probably didn’t have much in the way of training partners in the local area to train with. But it terms of today’s standards your 100% right even Hughes acknowledged this when he said it’s good for him to get tapped out, their just weren’t many people on his level at that time and certainly not in MMA in his area.

@@AP-eq7sh Great point. I figured they would have flown some other high level guys in, although Matt was ahead of his time in MMA, there was still more skilled purely bjj guys out there.

Nick Becker 100% your right there definitely was some better purist BJJ guys around, I think at the time most of them hadn’t ventured into MMA. A bjj specialist wasn’t so common as wrestling had recently taken over with the likes of Hughes and gsp. But definitely were some top level specialist out their, bj penn had super high level BJJ so they were definitely out their just not as many and definitely not many training in MMA gyms.

@@Ryan1985vsup Matt Hughes was an elite level grappler. He made it to ADCC. At that time, he was 1 of the best grapplers in the world. I'm surprised he was able to get tapped at all. But I'm sure the only times he's tapped is when he just went hard for 5 rounds and he's already completely exhausted. Or perhaps he's trying new things and not on his A game so he can experiment around. You can see when he's grappling he's relaxed and not going 100 percent. He probably goes 100 percent a lot but you do get relaxed sometimes so perhaps that's when he's caught. In order for someone to tap him when he's going 100 percent at that time he would need to bring in Demian Maia, Marcelo garcia, Ryan Hall, Andre Galvao, etc very limited amount of people.
