UDO Audio Super Gemini - Presentation Sonic LAB

Ғылым және технология

Exclusive extra video on / sonicstate
Always a pleasure to spend time in the company of George Hearn from UDO Audio, and especially as he brought the production ready Super Gemini poly synth with him.
The Super Gemini is now officially shipping, units are leaving the buillding and soon the 20 voice (10 in binaural mode) FPGA oscillator equipped synth will be making its way into the hands of those lucky folks whov'e ordered one.
Two FPGA oscillators per voice, (with 3rd trackable LFO), Analogue filter, analogue VCA with two discrete synth layers that can be played in two 5 voice each (binaural oscillator mode), or 10 voice per synth, each with discrete controls and chorus/delay FX.
In the hands of George it sounds wonderful, - in fact if you are an upper tier supporter, we've posted some additional playing in another post to whet your whistle.
Its not cheap, ut you do get a heck of a lot of synthesizer for your money..
Super Gemini is shipping and available now priced at £3799 from all good retailers.

    I’m going to have to get one of these eventually. Everyone always says “poly aftertouch is a gimmick” or “only virtuoso keyboardists can pull it off”, but in my experience with synths like the Osmose and Ensoniq SQ-80, that is simply not true. I am far from a virtuoso keyboardist, and within the first ten minutes I spent with an Osmose, I was already getting the hang of bending individual notes up and down or introducing vibrato on a single note. Of course there is technique involved, but I found that it came naturally, and wasn’t something I had to think about while doing it. It just sort of happened, and I think that’s a testament to good instrument design in some ways, but also our brains know what they want to hear and I think our hands can act on that before we even realize what’s going on.

  • @GizzyDillespee

    @GizzyDillespee

    7 ай бұрын

    Yeah if you want to add polyphonic expression to your playing, you don't need to be a better keyboard player than you are right now. You just end up paying more attention to the pressure you place with each finger, while you continue playing at whatever level you played before. That's talking about polyphonic aftertouch, and the "z-dimesnsion" on Osmose/Continuum. With those latter instruments, pitch precision can take some extra practice (x-dimension, IOW left to right pitch instabilities). The pressure dimension is easy, especially when it's like Super Gemini, where it's simply a velocity per key, and polyphonic aftertouch.

    It comes across as rude - and even childish, right at the end. Dude stuck a Summit and a Hydrasynth together. It’s not like he invented a lush new filter-type, or the world’s first programmable fully-analog poly-synth, or MIDI … but he sure acts like it. Super 6 and Gemini are overhyped and overpriced. You might prefer one or another. But it definitely makes a difference, and often a big one, IMHO and that of many others. I was a vintage blues guitar tone-hound, before I got into synths … so perhaps that makes a difference (I’m sure it does) … 🤷🏻‍♂️. With aftertouch, they could actually replace a 90s one, if they have programmability beyond envelope (phase/chorus, layering and "chiff"). Layering, check. So very promising indeed despite a kind of nervous demonstration with lots of "so, yeah". And I absolutely adore the return of the performance section on the left...

    Brilliant - What a great sounding synth and I’m sure UDO sell loads of them . I’m hoping Signal Sounds in Glasgow get one so I can try one too.
