    That 2017 season was special. It’s the reason UCF and got the invite to the big12, and it opened the door for cincy to get into the playoffs, even though they got crushed but I think anyone other than Georgia would’ve been crushed too. They were robbed by the committee but claiming the national title angered so many people and it’s still talked about today that it was a genius move

    Fun fact UCF was chosen as the national champions by the Colley Matrix which is recognized by the NCAA this is why we could claim national champs without repercussions from the NCAA.

    Well historically G5 teams haven’t done this, even though they probably should. For comparison sake, if we look at teams that won major bowls: 2004 MWC Utah absolutely demolished their season. They beat 5 P5 teams 202-44, averaged a 29.8 margin of victory per game on the season and never trailed in a single quarter of play. 2006 Boise State demolished their season with a 26.5 margin of victory and beat Oklahoma in their bowl game. 2008 MWC Utah beat 5 Top 25 teams, including 2 Top 10 teams and destroyed #3 Alabama. This team was ranked #1 in the country by 4 of 6 BCS computers, but didn’t make the title game. 2009 Boise State went undefeated for the 5th time in 8 years including back to back undefeated regular seasons, beating 2 Top 10 teams including #4 TCU. 2010 TCU became arguably the biggest snubbed team in the history of the sport. Recording back to back undefeated regular seasons, #1 defense, #4 offense, 4 Top 25 wins including #4 Wisconsin, and a 31.4 margin of victory. While each of these teams are recognized by multiple NCAA polls as being national champions none of these seasons are claimed as national championships by their respective schools. However then you look at the flip side and you have major brand name schools claim titles for ridiculous seasons such as Alabama claiming a national title when they went 9-3 and finished 3rd in the SEC.

    Just some stats. UCF that year beat 4 ranked (at time of game and pre-bowl) teams that year. Bama beat 2. Also most of bama's opponents had losing records. Media said UCF had no defense and didnt deserve but was completely ok with oklahoma giving up even more yards and scores. But what this video lacks....UCF did said they were national champs....but so did the NCAA. Its in the record book. Just like how bama claimed 1 from 1941.. in 1984...because some dentist said they were. Or auburn on suspension claiming it and awarding rings. UCF did exactly what every other major program did before them. They are officially in the record books. But that wasnt in the video.

    Yes, all the polls and everything are incredibly weird. Even as the CFB Playoff arose in an effort to fix problems with the BCS algorithms, it is difficult to pull the top 4 teams from dozens of teams with great records on paper; a 13-0 team in a conference as uncompetitive as C-USA may not hold water as well as a 13-0 team in the SEC or the ACC.

  • @tripvistica

    @tripvistica

    The AP doesn’t decide who goes to the College Football Playoffs. It’s a committee that makes that decision. No polls, AP, ESPN, coaches, have anything to do with deciding the team’s that go to the College Football Playoff. If you don’t even know that, then you clearly don’t understand strength of schedule. For entertainment, let’s pretend UCF made the Playoff that year. What team do you take out? Georgia? NO. Oklahoma? NO. Clemson? NO. SEC CHAMPIONS, ALABAMA? NO. But for fun pick a team that UCF could’ve replaced. You know the committee didn’t put them in because their first playoff game would’ve been a joke. They put the 4 best teams in that year, and we got to watch 3 GREAT games (2 of the greatest games ever, UGA vs. Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl and UGA vs Bama in that comeback overtime, possibly best game this century, against Georgia). Most importantly, Auburn didn’t give a shit if they won or lost that Sugar Bowl. They weren’t trying, because they were just a couple plays away from being in the College Football Playoff. So, that game meant nothing to them, and it meant everything to UCF, despite it not being a Playoff game. It was just a New Year’s 6 Bowl game.

    The “National Championship” everyone seems so concerned about has the same legitimacy as calling yourself the “Official soft drink of Summer” So who cares if UCF claims it…? There is no playoff, it’s merely a popularity contest decided by some committee, biased towards TV ratings, that pick the same small club of teams every year no matter what It’s as real as professional wrestling Ask yourself this Listing the 2017 team, undefeated conference champs in a power five conference… that beat an SEC team that defeated the supposed 1st and 2nd place programs earlier that year… as only TENTH ??? Is WAY more of a joke than UCF declaring itself Champions, and giving the middle finger to the CFR’s History is full of other examples of multiple teams claiming the crown, and it might happen again if FSU beats the Dawgs handily, splitting the AP vote Because if you think FSU got robbed now, but didn’t think UCF did in 2017 You are a hypocrite Next year will look more like a real playoff, and be more of an actual competition with 12 teams THAT kind of format is far more legitimate than the popularity contest they used in 2017 and up to now

    Do you realize that lsu only beat ucf by 8 in that game and ucf didn't even have their star quarterback because of a knee injury. If Mackenzie Milton played that game they would've blown lsu out and had 2 perfect undefeated seasons. And on top of that the 2017 ucf team was even better than the 2018 one so shouldn't be any doubt that ucf would've beat alabama and georgia in the natty.

    If you actually believe UCF deserves a title then you dont seriously watch college football . UCF would have been raped by any team that played. And I don’t use that term lightly … you played in a G5 conference. You played no real teams. Grow up and learn how the sport works. The talented teams win and you weren’t all that talented.
