Was giddily waiting for when you noticed you were drowning the observers! Great video! I’m backing this!

well, as a german sailor myself... there are two kinds of bearing. true bearing (the direction we see them according to true north) and relative bearing (the direction we see them from our bow/heading). usually in german navy jargon a bearing of "300" in true bearing is told like "3-0-0" ("three-zero-zero") and the relative bearing is "300°" ("three hundred degrees") or "60 degrees to port". the reporting of a new contact usually is done with both bearings (in the modern navy jargon anyway...). according to the app not changing their bearing makes me thing that its reported in true bearing. they were coming down south, passing you on your port side. so turning to a west course should have intercepted them. besides all that, i have no idea what the rules for this game are^^

in addition to the manual, the game also comes with a 'tactics guide' which is basically a crash course introduction to the basics of submarine warfare. required reading to be successful :)

It will have a tutorial mission to get you going. I can see it being confusing for the first time, but if you break it down it is simple. What direction are you heading, what direction is your target heading, where is your target relative to you. The app will basically fill in the first 2 for you by giving you the observers measurement in text format. The 3rd is also given to you in text, but you have to remember it is true bearing from north clockwise.

lol that was classic. Waiting for 25 mins for the eventual dive into attack depth, wondering whether he'd dive with his observers still on deck. Surely not, I said. Apparently yes! Definitely a hard job doing this by yourself haha!

27:38 Paolo's notes refer to the aft (rear) section to mark maintenance token that wasn't put out but the app is talking about the bow (front) section of the sub? This is also repeated earlier when you get wound up about torpedo maintenance and dismiss it as the rear section when in fact it was the bow (front) of the boat.

This looks great, it deffo needs a pause button though, especially the first mission because it will be a ballache for everybody to learn otherwise.

Saw this in Essen this year. I LOVE the concept, but the app turns me off. How many years till that is not working anymore? (No compatible phones around anymore? Servers shut down?). I'll buy once they release a standalone version without the app.

i guess you won't buy it then, as the app is 100% crucial to the gameplay. to answer your qustion about how many years, well the answer is: as long as there's electricity and the internet, you'll have options. i can still play atari 2600 games that were published 40 years ago via emulators :)

This video was tiring and I was only watching. I played my first game of UBOOT solo and didn't follow the recommendation of not flipping the board over. Second game I did solo, I kept the crew the same for sure. Being aware where everyone is and what everyone needs to do is tiring as hell. And then halfway through the mission you realized that everyone is exhausted and you did so many mistakes that you are likely dead already. It is an excellent game. If only there was a way to play without using the app...

One thing that confused me, if they were only three miles away, wouldn't they have been long gone 3 hours later at the shift change? Were they going really really slow? What did I miss? I'd appreciate any elucidation. :)

Are you sure you need to issue another order every time you go back to the hydrophone, that seems a bit silly. Surely that sailor stays on the hydrophone until his orders change.

  • @rahdo

17:18 - You say that the Bow torpedo tube is broken, but then point to the aft/stern of the boat. From the rest of the video, it looks like you meant to say aft at that point.

the thing was, when i had to restart after the crash, i restarted several time before i could get to a state that was simliar to the one in the main runthrough. in the extended, the app is actually reporting the rear torepdo tube needs maintenance, and i figured that was "close enough" but it clearly got my head mixed up :)

Do you need to keep passing the app around all the time? If you're on deck you need to pass to the grey player or if on the hydrophone you need to pass to the black player? Otherwise this game seems to be all about the Captain and Navigator... It would be amazing if all players needed the app, that way if your on deck the grey player could keep looking around whilst they aren't busy, or the hydrophone guy could keep listening whilst other stuff is going on. This looks like it has a lot of potential but i'm not sure if its ready just yet. I think all players having an app would be great. The captain would use the app to issue the deck viewing order and then the deck viewer would appear on the appropriate players phones, just an idea... A good example would be when u needed to repair but had to keep listening, its a 4 player game so these things should be able to be done in tandem. Multi apps would achieve this.
