Yeah, we already saw casualties the last episode, is a dangerous test and leads to the death of some of the less skilled mages

Serie is not saying herself that she is important. She actually *is* that important. She is as important to this generation of mages as Frieren was when back she taught humanity Qual's spells and helped make Ordinary Offensive Magic.

@@farohreacts Genay (proctor of this exam) design it on purpose to be hardcore (he is battle hardened veteran who fight against greater demons as a part of 1-st rank mage job. He saw a lot of his comrade end up being dead. He think that only those who ready, should get 1-st rank mage title) . Sense (proctor of second exam) is a "pacifist" so she design her exam with max safeguard

At first I thought Wirbel's group was just lucky to stumble onto a Stille like that. But then I realized that Ehre and Scharf were completely out of mana, and Wirbel is probably good at hiding his, since he has experience fighting demons. And that is probably why the Stille didn't immediately flee when they approached it. Which means there is one final strategy available that the examinees could use to catch a Stille. If you aren't skilled enough to hide your mana completely, you can deliberately use up your mana, until you have none left, and then sneak up on and catch a Stille using some physical bird catching trap that doesn't use magic. I wonder if this too was deliberately built into the test. An active mage in a dangerous environment will be constantly at risk of running out of mana, and being able to still function and be useful despite not having any mana left, so that running out of mana is not an instant death sentence, might be a quality they are looking for in First Class Mages.

Sense is referring to the whole test set-up, with those dangerous killer birds that already killed some of the examinees, and how the teams will end up being forced to fight each other for Stilles, and possibly end up killing one another, when she's accusing Genau of killing exam candidates. Since he designed the test set-up and deliberately made it so that at least some deaths were highly likely, if not inevitable.

Serie is an interesting character and we'll get to learn more about her eventually as all we've had is bits and pieces so far. The opening of the show hints at how long she's been around, she's a great deal older and more experienced than Frieren in magic knowledge. Can't really say too much without it being a spoiler but I'd say wait before making any judgements on who she is and how she sees herself.

I just thought it's cool that both Wirbel and Jean Kirstein from AOT share the same VA .... both hesitated to kill. I love details like that, especially on the casting decision end.

18:00 Serie is not the one who claims that, people around her say that stuff because of how powerful she is.

About the proctors discussion it was referring to Genau made a difficult test resulting in test takers being killed by other test takers and the Geisel (big bird creatures)

I always love stoic characters and this show has so many great ones. Cant wait for the next episode n keep up the great reactions 👍🏾

The same reason I have? When they show emotion it hits harder? For me one of the best scenes was the dialog with Old Man Voll and the dread in Frierens face as realisation sets in..

I was super surprised by Denken in that he actually seems super honourable, isn’t crazy power hungry, and doesn’t think killing someone is something that should be taken lightly. Due to his age, and the fact he seems relatively confident in his match with Frieren, I think he might be considered a near peak human mage. (You know he’s still going to lose to her but still.)

Given his age and experience, Denken has likely been skilled and powerful enough to pass this test for decades by now. But he has never bothered to take the test before. That alone should be a hint that he isn’t particularly power hungry, and that the reason he is taking the test now is something different, likely personal.

(I'm a manga reader and currently on the latest chapter) What a lovely episode I really did love all of the interesting discussion and interaction in it. Like some of the guys where not cold hearted dudes especially Wirbel and Denken. As Wirbel seems like he could be a psycho but he is actually a sweetheart deep down. Just fighting demons and protecting the northern lands so that his old love interest. Could one day return to him as her family moved away out of security concerns. But he still is able to kill anyone including women and children if he really needs too. Which makes his morality so much more complex. Also seeing how the northern lands sometimes use child soldiers was pretty brutal. Then we had Denken who As he deemed that unnecessary unlike his teammate. He thought that just putting them under a sleep spell would be enough. So despite Denken seeming very cold and calculating he still care about the life of other people and Denken is the best characters so far in Frieren season you guys will love that Old man But then I also loved seeing the magic used in this episode as well. Like how Fern overwhelmed Ehme with her magical blasts until she could not take it anymore. And Land don't sleep on that man he's the Goat and I don't want to spoil anything but Land is not there on the entire examination he's in his home town chilling having tea while his clone do all the work 💀. That's First class mage potential right there and also Übel she's a beast but cares about land very much.

14:15 Genau is the proctor for the first test, so it's his fault that mages are dying because he designed it in such a way that people will die. Whether it's from other mages killing to steal their bird or mages without good mana detection getting killed by the giant flying creatures, it's a test meant to trim the number down.

I mean if there were a person in our world that had firsthand knowledge of the majority of the scientific and sociological developments of the history of humankind, they’d be pretty damn important.

Elf mage founding a magic organization looking for mages from the demon war and promising any spell? Just straight up a Frieren thirst trap lol, I have a suspicion the elf mage did all that to specifically get Frieren to come visit.

Funny, Fern did choose Ehre because she was the one with the stronger magical Aura like she was fighting demons - and, presumable, to keep her occupied, help the team while still laying low. Then as Ehre honestly told her Wirbel is more dangerous...Fern let loose. ... But Wirbel does know people who would kill easily, so he assumes he is the softer one (lol) and others more ruthless, aka Fern the Killer ^^ And yes I think he works hard to be mean ... Land isn't second class for nothing. Genau, the proctor, is imo a little arrogant elitist ass ... I believe Richter comes from Scharfrichter (=executioner) because he is at ease with killing. (His spell is btw.
