There are two more factors I might add: 1) Blue will have comparably higher backgammon chances. Which will carry Blue to 5-0 instead of 4-0 lead. 2-away score is a huge factor I guess. In the next game an undoubled gammon can work for Blue for example. 2) If Blue gets hit worst case scenario in this case is most probably winning a single game. This will carry the score to 3-0 for blue. Being 4-away is a more efficient score I believe. A cubed gammon in the next game can work efficiently.

1:09:41 to me the most obvious reason of why to choose 6/5* 5/2 with that 31 roll over the contender 3/off 3/2 is because by putting one more on the bar blue is sensibly increasing his backgammon chances. (I wonder why I did not hear this argument since is the strongest one?) If backgammons would count only as gammons, the two choices would be very close in equity!

That was my first instinct as well.. only a 30.5% of getting hit with a 6 and 69.5% chance of completely crushing.. That 1 mistake may have cost him the entire match today.

I agree. I can elaborate like this: 1) Blue will have comparably higher backgammon chances. Which will carry Blue to 5-0 instead of 4-0 lead. 2-away score is a huge factor I guess. In the next game an undoubled gammon can work for Blue for example. 2) If Blue gets hit worst case scenario in this case is most probably winning a single game. Even if backgammons don't count, the best play wins more games and more gammons.
