Are you saying that people see what they want to see?

Let's get real. The Iliad and Odyssey (e.g.) do not -- and cannot -- teach you anything about office politics. To the extent there is a correlation, even one that is NOT by chance, it is not because the author knew there was an immutable truth across time and space. These are written ink blot tests, into which professors, filmmakers, and readers put their own ideas. These are not histories (and even histories aren't histories). Unless taught from a perspective of skepticism and identifying the persuasive techniques used to manipulate the reader to achieve a level of control over them, it's a waste of time. You want students who will not succumb to BS, and who you can equip with the tools to persuade others (assuming the rest of their education is something you want to spread).
