I wish other tracks had heavy ambience. Seriously, even though it's not the heat of the moment part of UAC Atlantica, it's so atmospheric.

So many stems in this one that I’ve never heard on any other channel, especially in the light combat. Unbelievable that the track can get even better.

@@IconOfSin I’ve got to say mate, I’m impressed. Some quick questions I have for ya- first off, what program did you use for the editing of the audio? I’m an FL Studio man myself. Also, just how many stems are there individually for a song like Atlantica- ambient, light and heavy combined?

  • @IconOfSin

@@Matthew_Atlas_Carey this was done in Reaper, which is pretty much where I live now. I couldn't say off hand, obviously depends on the track but the clips (they're not stems, which would be seperate clips per instrument) vary from 1 second up to around 1 minute, The Holt is short with less than 20 in total AFAIR, Atlantica is easily 30+ but I'm not at the PC to confirm. Identifying them from the 1300 or so files without stopping and jamming out to every single clip is the real job lol

@@Matthew_Atlas_Carey yeah there's all sorts in there though, the original doom1 and I think doom2 soundtracks, the "vinyl" from the hub, a bunch from 2016, and also some really interesting tracks and clips that I've never heard in game, definitely Mick. Maybe someone's ripped it already, could be unfinished variants from the demo phase (doomed slayer and super gore nest variants to my ear). Been years since I've used Fruity Loops, not sure how it copes with editing audio files and multitrack etc, but Reaper has an infinite non-commercial trial and is really intuitive to use. Couldn't recommend it enough, but specifically for multitrack, not midi etc

FYI, I've repeated 4 gamefile clips ("stems") here: half of 1 in light combat, 3 in heavy combat (1 full, 1 half & 1 quarter). Other than that there's no looping or extending, Levy just happens to write extremely long songs.

Having a lot of parts to the song helps the combat music feel more dynamic and less repetitive. The engine has more pieces to choose from when it shuffles them during combat and doesn’t end up repeating the same parts over and over again. 😀

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how amazing the ambient tracks for this level are? It feels like the combat beats get all the love, and I just want to see it more fairly shared among the top quality tracks. You can actually hear the industry of the level while you're exploring what is basically the 'oil rig'-styled level in other FPS games. The storm rages on around you, constantly feeling like it's just getting worse and worse, amplifying itself more and more. The metal gantries and platforms shake in the winds, and the clang and clatter of damaged and idle machinery echoes around you. Then, the thunder peaks, cutting above all else in a small but necessary release of tension. Ah, inspiration. ❤️
