U2 Zoo TV Australia Media Coverage

Фильм және анимация

A stitched together selection of various news reports and specials from U2's Zoomerang tour back in '93. Quite how this has survived 25 odd years on old VHS I'm not sure! Video quality is still pretty shoddy, but the sound has held up quite well. Hopefully fans of the band and this iconic tour will find this interesting, I am pretty sure there is more of this lying around somewhere, will upload more as I find it. WATCH MORE TV!

Interesting that awards bit must have been the day of Adam's famous bender/missed show in Sydney. You can pick the undertones of distress.

U2 startet the biggest Live shows on earth with zoo tv. U2 is the greatest live band since 1992 and they still the best live band.

"We've been out for 2 years", Bono says. This Australian, New Zealand and Japan tour ran from 12 November - 10 December 1993; the European tour had run from 9 May - 28 August, so they had 2 and a half months off prior to this tour. The previous tour, the USA, concluded on 22 November 1992, so the band had 5 and a half months off in between. When he says they've been out for 2 years and after this it will be time to go home, he implies they have solidly been touring - they have not, they've had huge breaks where they were presumably 'at home'.

Yeah but they did record the 'Zooropa' album during that 6 month 'break' ;-)

@@zootube75 Zooropa was recorded just before the European tour started, in fact they were still recording it after that tour began - they were commuting to gigs in Europe from Dublin and were still recording the album on their days off. I saw them at Wembley Stadium in London that year, the Zooropa album had just come out, released during the European leg of the tour, and The Edge was having to read the lyrics for the song 'Numb' from a music stand in front of him.We were very near the front and we could see this. The band give the impression that it was solid touring but they would have been able to unwind and get their energy back on those long breaks. The 2 and a half months off prior to this leg of the tour - Australia, New Zealand and Japan - would have been total chill out for them and they'd have been fully refreshed when they arrived at the airport in the clip you see here.

@@jeffoliver2298 Not necessarily they had to change the show quite a bit for Australia/NZ as they added Zooropa songs such as Stay,Numb,Dirty Day and Daddy's gonna pay for your crashed car , they would have rehearsed for a few weeks prior to getting there ok technically they weren't on stage for 2 years but they were working on and off for a lot of that time and away from home.

@@bassdemon3893 There would have been things they had to do during those 2 and a half months, but it would have been quite relaxed, rather than manic. I looked at U2's timeline on Wikipedia and during the 2 and a half month lay off that I've referred to this is all that happened (I've copied and pasted): " ... 28 August: On the final Zooropa concert in Dublin, Clayton's fiancé, model Naomi Campbell appears on stage. September: "Lemon" is released as the second single from Zooropa. 3 September: At the MTV awards in Los Angeles, The Edge makes his first ever solo appearance where he performs "Numb" in front of a miniature version of the Zoo TV set. November: Bono records the vocal for his duet with Frank Sinatra on "I've Got You Under My Skin" in Dublin. 12 November: U2 commence the "Zoomerang" leg of Zoo TV in Melbourne. ..." I agree they would have had to rehearse some of the new material for the Australia, New Zealand and Japan leg - I would say they would have had most of it nailed from the European tour that summer though. So during the 2.5 months off Edge performs 'Numb' at the MTV awards and Bono records his vocal for the duet with Sinatra. They were not hugely busy during that time. I have Bill Flanagan's book "U2 At The End Of The World" which I recommend, U2 took him on this tour and asked him to write a fly-on-the-wall account of what occurred. It's very interesting.

Had they known how things would go in their next album, their vacations would not have lasted more than a month and they would not have wasted 2 years. Pop was a great album, but it should have come out in the fall of 95 and should have included HMTMKMKM and Miss Sarajevo.

When they're receiving those "awards" it must have been after they were told by their manager Paul Macguinnes that Adam had an alcoholic blackout and wasn't going to come to the show. You can see they're trying to make the best out of the situation hehehe. Just read about it on "Surrender".
