2014. I was trying to find out who I was, and I was doing that through music. I listened to the alternative rock I WANTED to listen to. I didn’t hear about the new iPhone announcement. A new album appeared on my phone one day. I was confused, then angry. I don’t think it was even so much an ‘invasion of privacy’ so much as, I didn’t know what it was. I heard 10 seconds of this new song and put it to the side. For 5 years, I’ve kept it on my phone. Even when Apple told people how to get rid of the album, I never deleted it. But I didn’t listen to it either. Until this year. I listened to ‘Sleep Like a Baby’ and found it charming and chill. Then, finally, today, I listened to this song all the way through. Not just the guitar and piano. Not the sharp intakes of breath. All the way through. I was floored. I had forgotten how amazing U2 could be painting a picture, how poignant and chilling and blunt their messages could be. I couldn’t believe I’d missed this for 5 years. The song is about firebombings in N. Ireland. Terrible, awful, heart aching things that haven’t ceased to this day. The point is- sometimes we ignore things, especially when they’re thrust at us. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth the time. We ignore atrocities all the time. We want to. We can’t. This album was thrust at us. It deserves to be listened to anyway.

Number 7 on the album. This sounds a lot like the old style from them. All the people who always complain you don't like the new stuff, this should make you happy! ;-)

@@larr5eI mean when you have your album titled Songs of Innocence you don't say no to listening to that. Let alone from U2. It's all of the first albums I fully listened to when it was released in 2014 I believe. I was 6 at the time. U2 isn't necessarily my favourite but I have good songs from them. This album is a part of that. The only other album at the time I fully listened to was Bruno Mars debut album titled Doo-Wops and Hooligans which was released back in 2010. I have a great taste of music. Although I am into alternative and rock as well as maybe contemporary centred around the late 90's and throughout the 2000's. This album still ranks high for me. It speaks for itself suffice to say nearly a decade later it has stood the resilience and test of time.

The song delivers a powerful message. In a world where people no longer believe in hope and politicians are self serving and to destroy the hopes of the American people.

Regardless of whether this album was given away for free or not, it’s a superb album. I can’t say I’ve listened to either this or Experience more than a couple of times yet (only just bought them after putting it off for ages), but I rank this album quite highly in their catalogue and I would say for a start it’s better than ALYCLB and Songs Of Experience. They’ve done so much great music that I think I might have to go through all their albums again to get a proper feel of whereabouts this one places.

Face down on a broken street There’s a man in the corner in a pool of misery. I’m in a white van as a red sea covers the ground Metal crash I can’t tell what it is But I take a look and now I’m sorry I did. 5:30 on a Friday night 33 good people cut down I don’t believe anymore I don’t believe anymore Face down on a pillow of shame There are some girls with a needle tryin to spell my name My body’s not a canvas My body’s now a toilet wall. I don’t believe anymore I don’t believe anymore Raised by wolves Stronger than fear Raised by wolves We were raised by wolves Raised by wolves Stronger than fear If I open my eyes, You disappear Boy sees his father crushed under the weight Of a cross in a passion where the passion is hate. Blue mink Ford, I’m gonna detonate and you’re dead Blood in the house, Blood on the street The worst things in the world are justified by belief Registration 1385-WZ I don’t believe anymore I don’t believe anymore Raised by wolves Stronger than fear Raised by wolves We were raised by wolves Raised by wolves Stronger than fear If I open my eyes, You disappear
