U.S. Navy Band Concert on the Avenue with the Sea Chanters (August 2, 2022)
In 2022, the United States Navy Band resumed a full summer schedule for its popular “Concerts on the Avenue” series at the U.S. Navy Memorial Plaza in the heart of Washington, D.C.
The full “Concert on the Avenue” on selected Tuesday evenings combined the talent and professionalism of the Concert Band; the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard; the U.S. Navy Drill Team; and the Sea Chanters, the U.S. Navy’s official chorus
The “Concert on the Avenue” begins with a procession of 56 state and territorial flags, each one carried by a member of the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, followed by a command performance by the United States Navy Drill Team executing precision actions with 1903 Springfield rifles, all with 10-inch fixed bayonets.
The one-hour musical program features a tribute to the late Stephen Sondheim with a selection from “West Side Story”; the theme from the mega-hit ‘Top Gun” with its iconic electric guitar solo; a traditional sea shanty; a medley of Disco favorites; plus other popular and patriotic standards. (It is not unusual to find members of the audience dancing along.) Current and former members of the military are asked to stand and be recognized during “Armed Forces on Parade,” a medley of service songs, now incorporating the new U.S. Space Force Anthem. Every “Concert on the Avenue” concludes with a rousing rendition of John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” including the not often heard vocal finish by the Sea Chanters chorus.

I don't know when I've enjoyed a patriotic concert MORE than this group of AMAZING musicians & singers! Makes me proud to be American & have family who served in the U.S. Navy! ( I'm a former U.S. Airforce wife from 1973- 76 Vietnam era). Thank you for this WONDERFUL tribute! ♥️🇺🇲♥️

I’m 🇨🇦 & this was recommended to me by KZread. So glad I decided to check it out because it was incredible!!! Just WOW!!! Also as a huge Disney Nerd, was both surprised & thrilled when the Encanto portion happened. Also a Figure Skating Fan &....The Rhythm Dance Theme this year is Latin & not a single Encanto program that I’ve seen yet this Season!! I’m not bitter though. Little salty yes, but i’m not bitter. 😉 Anyway..Thank you again for a completely amazing & entertaining Concert. Go Navy!! Take Care!! 😊

Ma’am, my condolences and regrets on loss of your husband. Thank you for his fine service to America. Thank you for standing by his side, and for being the “Household O-6” keeping all running smoothly while he was deployed. With a strong, military wife at home, it allows an active personnel to focus on their critical job. Whether they are an E-1 or a Field Grade, or General Officer. The Military Wife is far underpaid and under recognized for their critical value to the force. CW3GTC

According to an item on the Band's facebook page, "Though he's now known for having a beautiful, clarion baritone voice, he actually began his professional career as a boy soprano and can sing higher than most of the women in the group".

I sincerely apologise if I offend anyone....I just think that any performance with Military band back up ,,the singer/ singers should be in uniform...as per musicians.......I absolutely love the US Military talent and all their Ensemble...I often watch it as it inspires me.....but..

The announcer (who also led-off the disco segment) should take-up voice acting with that type of range.

Okay, a nice concert, and the performers were well-trained and very well-tuned. BUT, during the Armed Forces Medley part of it (during which I heard something called by the name of the "United States Space Force", which, just by the way has never yet had a mission to accomplish)--well, where was the magnificently perfect salute toward the United States Marine Corps, which was yielded to the Air Force, the Army, and the Navy? I didn't see that salute, and if I missed it I do apologize. But, when I see some Brothers/Sisters in arms ignored, while I am recognized, it just angers this old Navy boy somewhat. Here's the deal: the Cloth of the Nation, that particular uniform one wears, it molds us all into family, and I don't like to see my family disrespected... Do you understand? I surely hope so.
The corner trio sounds wonderful but that gal shoo be ashamed of that NONMILITARY HAIR DO. Where is her CO?
