Why are you guys hating on the u.s marine corps? The u.s marines work hard and hard every single day. The marines help you become a real man,they show you how to use self defense, to never give up,to gain and show respect, being proud to sacrifice your self to your country. Don't hate, be proud.while we are sitting down In bed and feeling lazy,the u.s marines are working hard stressing out and getting badly injured. but guess what their proud. When they come out the u.s marine corps, they can look back and say,wow! I was a u.s marine, I worked my self to my limit, but I became a real man!

Im going to enlist in the finest branch the marine corps to follow my grandpas footsteps

Osman Six they're their own branch I suggest you look it up instead of thinking you know everything. They're a department of the navy but they're their own separate branch it was that way since 1789

Graham Holloway The Marine Corps and The Navy are two separate branches, under the Department of the Navy. You don't go to the Navy and say hey I would like to join the Marine Corps can you give me information.

BIG RESPECT to the Marines and all the Forces out there! You're doing a great job!

Im a Sergeant in the Corps. And to be honest I love it. When your a low rank beware because your salary is going to be dog shit. My salary is $25,200. Not much. Oo-Rah!

you accentuate the problem right away, this isnt even about the money sergeant slaughter, this goes much more deeper than the money.... war is the evilness in this world, why are oblivious americans like yourself contributing to this horrible illusion, i dont get it..... terrorism is a joke so they can keep propelling fear upon citizens and keep everyone in the matrix, if you are proud to be on the evil side then i feel sorry for you

Im 15 and ever since i was little ive wanted to join the United States Marine. My uncle served in Iraq for 6 years and hes inspired me to become a part of the few and the proud. In two years im goin to DEP in. I want to attempt Recon training after boot. Thank you to all the men and women who serve in our armed forces, i love you all God bless.

My grand son reported to mcrd san diego this am for boot camp--- i am so very proud of him--- his dad was in the corps and fought in golf war 1 -- it changed him a lot

the DI's begin to treat the recruit better the further along in training, by the time you graduate, you are one of them.

I have been to Paris Island and i had the honor to watch this happen i didn't think how hard they work to be in the Corps then, but i slowly started to realize how hard this course really is.

You know what I like about the Marine Corps? The fact that they don't need to be a part of an organization like the airborne, rangers, or whatever to be tough. Marines are already made to be tough.

People would be surprised how many foreign people we had when I went to boot camp. We had guys from Brazil, Germany, Philippines, South Korea, Russia, and all sorts of other countries. Say what you want about the U.S. but we have a damn good military. It's hard to describe the feeling of what it means to be so close to people you barely know. The kinship is one of the best things you can find in any kind of organization.

Basic training is a conditioning phase, it is not brainwashing. It is meant to prepare a recuit for the environment in which he/she is expected to serve: fast, loud, reactive, stressful and anxious. "Every Marine is a Rifleman" means whatever occupational specialty a Marine holds, he/she can still be employed as a security/defense element in a hostile situation. Physicality is crucial because it conditions thinking under extreme circumstances.

There is an academic evaluation in the form of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery to determine the enlistment qualifications for service men and women into the Armed Forces. Each specific field within the USMC (as well as USAF, USN, USA, USCG, etc.) requires a certain level of competency in various fields in order to be considered. The ASVAB generates a brief view of the recruits ability in all fields. The USMC has standards, and you must meet them if you wish to become a Marine.

I plan on it and already am training and lifting weights. I forced my self to join football and track and this is my 3rd year playing these sports and while all my friends quit playing sports with me I still train by myself prepping for Corps.

@MrChach1ng The Marines use classic pieces of engineering, like the fine M16A2 and M60 MMG. Old dosen't always equal bad. But yes, they usually have older guns. M4 is basically a lighter M16 anyway.

i love how when they start using live rounds suddenly everybody speaks as calmly as possible.. and then the next week it's back to screaming again lol.

@TheSparkyG they learn many skills as Rangerleadtheway44 stated but most importantly Marines and other service members learn intangible skills that will help them throughout life. They learn a level of discipline that many people in the civillian sector will never be able to achieve, they learn the ability to work as a team, and many more intangible skills. With the traits they learned in the Service they can do anything they set their minds too.

Hopefully bootcamp won't be as much as a problem for me. I am 15 and I work hard physically and academically. My father was a sailor in the U.S Navy, so I know my fair share of verbal abuse. I've won a perseverance award for showing outstanding commitment and determination whilst overcoming an obstacle in an obstacle course. I'm a quick and adaptive learner. I've taken Martial Arts. I also plan on participating in the Young Marines program. I hope to join the Corps after College, as an enlisted.

U.S. Marines do recieve about 13 weeks of basic but there is also specialized training like desert combat for example. You are right though, the Royal Dutch Marines do have the longest basic.

@MrMichaelnoel That hat is worn by shooting coaches. They are not PMI's (primary marksmanship instructors). PMI's are the guys in the green jackets and are experts in marksmanship that give initial and extra help when needed on marksmanship. The coaches are able to qualify as rifle experts and very skilled marksmen, but nowhere near the skill of a PMI. These coaches help you to improve your marksmanship and also verify that you have no live rounds left after the firing session ends.

They may all give you a hard time every now and then, but it is important to remember that the DIs actually do want you to succeed.

i was a born marine! i live, breath, eat and sleep the marines! i have been training since 8 years old, i will one day be a Marine and serve my country in whatever way i am assigned. when i am old enough i will become a United States Marine! no matter the cost! I am am MARINE!!!

I leave on the 8th for Boot Camp. Hopefully by watching this I would learn my "Dos and Donts".

@Ring2tapout Ohh. You know how I found out I wanted to be a Marine? I'll never forget it: when I was about 12 I was at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quanico, VA, and as I looked around at the history and the life of what these men had, I realized I then wanted to be one of them and it was my calling. Ever since then, it's always been in my heart. Some people who I told this to said I may change my mind about it by the time I am elligible, but I know that will never happen :)

@TheFederalHack You are taught to shoot up to 500 yrds with Iron Sights in Boot.In Infantry School you will get issued an RCO(ACOG which is the corps main rifle optic)and you are taught to shoot with that along with many ranges of optics.You are taught to use all wisely.An ACOG is a great optic it is tritium and dosent run on batteries and will last for years,it's great for a clear hd looking field of view great target identification and reticles(chevron)

The Marine Corps trains from three different ranges on the rifle range. 200 yards, 300 yards and 500 yards. Mind you all of this is with open sights, no scopes.

@96wr the smartest thing you can do is talk to a recruiter first off...tell him your situation... you wont leave for bootcamp for at least 4 moths... i enlisted in sept. and dont leave till march you can get in shape in that time period...the mental thing is all up to you though

Thats what makes our military the best, every branch specializes in generaly one spot.. if all our mility branch was in the airforce, marines, or the navy we wouldnt be as good as we are..

I graduated from one of the best universities in America, then completed two law degrees. I practiced law for over thirty years and made millions of dollars. I own a beautiful house and a stable of cars. My success will never be complete, however, because I was never a Marine. God Bless the Corps.

@AGummyCat They were apart of the navy in wwII. They later branched off but were still apart of the Navy. Marines use navy terminology. I should know, I am a veteran. The captain of the ship is over the all apointed sailors and marines when going out to sea. The pilots always follows the captains orders. Being on the USS NASSAU I saw marines on deployment along witht he sailors.

difference between british and USA training, USA have way more recruits per intake, everything is faster and well oiled in order to get all the recruits through each stage in training, the british army has less so it can be done in more detail, which most will say makes for better training.

I am almost sure that you have to provide as soon as you try to enlist, I have never heard of them helping out to get a GED. They are very strict now a days and I know for a fact that the GED has to be College approved. I was enlisted from 2000-2004, Good luck with everything!

it seems even though marine bootcamp is more intense and longer...... the D.I.'s are nice with the recruits.

@vonVince Yelling helps the recruits deal with the stress that combat brings. A firefight is loud, dangerous and messy. Drill instructors want to instill that in their recruits.

that's the boot camp guys , lets give them a chance , it's a nice life style , i was in the army myself the Egyptian armed forces , i had days were i stood still for 18 hours no food no drink , i never underestimate a marine or seal for that matter fact

Furthermore, USMC Basic Training halts counter-productive reactions from a future-Marine: reluctance, hesitation, panic, anxiety, mutiny, and improvisation (up to a certain point). Also, the USMC PREFERS a high school diploma over a GED because it denotes that the recruit has attended a public institution, garnering previous social interaction and must have retained forms of "common sense". Each recruit is systematically "interviewed" by all personnel for signs of distress and negligence.

@IMaHappYQuab No I haven't read the book, but will look for it at my library. I plan on attenting a college in VA, and earn a bachealors degree, then enlist. Once in enlistment I will devote myself into earning as high as I can in rank, until I can send a referal to be approved into officer ranks. I want to enlist to experience first-hand what field Marines go through, and gain real knowledge, then move into officer ranks and command troops properly and effectively. Fight smarter, not harder.

All solves: the excellent commander, the reliable weapon, psychological preparation and accuracy of shooting. And electronic features only prevent to be at war in fierce fight.

I seem to remember being screamed at a lot more than they show. Also, I remember never being able to talk to DI's in normal volume voices like they show here. We ALWAYS had to scream (even when i had my wisdom teeth removed... they made me scream until the stitches ripped out)

I remember snapping in on the barrel to well, grass week really sucks.going to the range is fine I sometimes still smell the gun powered it smells like victory.

@MrChach1ng the m16 has been updated and updated, the USMC now uses the M16A4 variant, designed for modern combat :)

To me, the most prestigious title would be USMC Sniper. I'm thinking of enlisting too. Be a damn good way to pay for my college.

They are M16 A-2 rifles but they still use m-4 carbines in Afghanistan, naturally ak-47's with their 7.62mm ammo will be more accurate at long range than the m16/4's 5.56mm nato rounds more mass = more down range accuracy.

@IMaHappYQuab the m16 is less powerfull because of the longer round.. it goes right through the target, there as instead of the ak 47 has a thicker higher caliber bullet that crushes targets. The ak is more of a machine gun and the m16 is more of a rifle.The ak is easy to maintain and clean the weapon. the m16 was often switched for the ak in the vietnam war because of the lack of reliability of the m16 it jammed alot, what the ak lacks in accuracy it makes up for in everything else.

@locustkilla123 pull-ups and run time will be most important. good thing to remember during your time in bootcamp is to be loud and motivated. if you do that then you will do good. stay in shape and know your marine corps knowledge.
