Sure, their head or chest might not explode, but it ain't going to function anymore either.

It works better than a tungsten rod because not only is it amazing at piercing armor but the uranium turns essentially molten from the heat of impact and sprays super hot material inside the crew compartments. Only downside is it leaves behind a lot of uranium dust that causes cancer, though before being used, the depleted uranium is completely safe to handle from what I've heard. Its the dust part that lets it fuck with your body. Though I guess that could be a secondary way of fucking over your enemy, give them cancer if they survive.

My great great great grandfather, Andrew Zumwalt fought in the battle of San Jacinto at age 19. I've got his prototype Colt revolver and his sword that he used in the battle in a safety deposit box in Houston. Some canon balls he picked up off the battlefield after the battle was over, too. you ask what happens when you hit a ship with a rail gun.... just imagine a sonic boom which is creating a vacuum going through a 4 inch hole on the side of your ship... everyone inside is AT LEAST going to die from suffocation due to lack of air pressure from the actual projectile taking the air with it. Next you have adiabatic compression so there will be heat with it as well. Basically projectile comes in body parts and A LOT of dead people come out the other side. This is at least what they told us if we got hit with a copper plated IED so i assume is generally the same?

Basically, the energy impact of the laser can do anything from heating the target to burning a hole through it to actually shattering it if enough energy is dumped into the target, either from a massive heat gradient or, for truly insane amounts of energy, sheer energy impact. As to the rail gun, keep in mind that the launcher needs to be able to absorb the same amount of energy that it imparts to the projectile. You're not going to see rail guns as personal weaponry any time soon. And yes, it'll wreck any engine it hits. It's all about kinetic energy transfer. Remember, the best anti-tank round the US has for the M-1 is a solid depleted uranium slug. As to wear, it doesn't matter how strong the material you use is - even simple lead bullets wear out barrels. The only way a railgun projectile won't wear down the launcher is if we can use magnetic fields to suspend the projectile between the rails the entire time, and right now we can't do that.

@@Monkdn holy shit dude, you have the coolest high school ever. Ever thought of using a triprong system? Wait, that wouldn't work. 6 prongs might, arranged in alternating polarity. Then you effectively have three railguns to keep the projectile stable, and it allows you to double the power while still improving the lifetime of the weapon.

I saw this technology used back in the 80's while I was in college. In fact, one was used to create a laser light show while we flooded the school's theater for a surprise pool party. But eventually it was installed on a plane and ignited a massive pile of popcorn kernels in our Dean's brand new house.

The rounds used for a rail gun can be smart rounds and would be programmed to fragment before hitting the target so instead of hitting with a single large slug, you have multiple smaller parts suddenly shotgun style hitting a larger target to do much more damage than just simply putting a hole in it.

Hello Artur . I'm a US Navy vet , and as stated in the video one of the biggest advantages of a rail gun on a ship is the lack of explosive propellants , that is , powder charges and explosive projectiles . In WW2 the Battlecruiser HMS hood faced the German Battlecruiser Bismark and was blown apart by one hit to her magazine. The crew of the Hood numbered about 1,100 men , and only three survived . So a ship without explosives in the magazines would not explode with such catastrophic results . BTW , A video reacting to the battle between Hood and Bismark would be interesting . Also , the 2019 film version of Midway has just become available for sale and on rental here in the states. I reccomend you watch it when it becomes available in Estonia . Maybe you could check out a few documentary videos on YT and react to the Battle of Midway sometime . Another interesting naval battle in WW2 was the Battle of Leyte Gulf . Leyte Gulf was the largest naval battle in history and the first time Kamikaze were used in organized attacks . It's also known as the time that little American destroyers fought against Japanese Battleships several times their size .

Guilty. I'm an American from Maryland and I own 6 guns, currently building a seventh. My collection to date: Saiga-12, Zastava PAP M92, Zastava M57, Hi Point 4595TS, GSG-522SD, and a .22 cal rifle that I built from the ground up. So I call it the Merlin-22LR. The seventh will be based off of a GSG-522 as well, but is a mixed match of old parts from my other guns and a few things I bought online soo far. I bought the guns that I have because they were cheap compared to most others lol. I didn't acquire a single one of them for defense or hunting. I do go to the gun range about 6-7 times a year. Usually I only take two of them with me and fire 100 rounds through each one. So Im not an expert, but Im a decent shot. Shooting them isn't the main thing that draws me to the gun world though. It's fun, but mostly I just like to build and modify guns, Within the legal regulations of course. Some guys like working on cars, well this is what Im good at lol. If the laws were to change and nobody could own guns anymore I'd hand them over. Not happily, but Id do it. Im not one of those hardcore guys that would bury them in the backyard or have a shootout with the cops when they come to collect them. Anyway I enjoy watching your video's and look forward to seeing more.

Lets put it like this, SABOT FS is the round they use in the abrams to kill tanks. this round is about the same size maybe a bit bigger by the looks of it but almost 4-5 times faster... it doesnt take much to cause a ships engine to catastrophically fail, or have that shell go into a standard ammunition storage, one good hit is all you need with something like this.

Artur, at those speeds, the mass would be phenomenal, as would the kinetic energy. There would be few human made structures that it would not be devastated by it. The light you see in the clip is the kinetic energy being transferred to the plating which melts. Imagine a 15 or 20 cm shell that weighs as much as a truck, that is the kind of mass you are dealing with. Together, it doesn't just put a small hole that you could cover, it puts holes through every structural element it hits. Plating, braces, engines, whatever. One could sink a sizable ship.

I don't know if you noticed but in the one test sequence the projectile when through something like 9 sheets of 1 inch steel. A 25lb projectile traveling at Mach 7 would carry roughly 23 million jewels of kenetic energy. That is enough energy to rip a tank in half and would put a very big hole in a ship. This weapon is no joke. I hope we get the bugs worked out. Imagine being able to take out the entire Chinese and Russian Navy from 100 miles away. Pretty amazing.

The projectile from a rail gun is the same as a sabot round from a tank...it’s killing power is the kinetic energy...it creates a high level of heat...it literally melts the metal it hits (such as a ship)...that melted (high temperature) metal then sprays into the inner compartment killing anyone inside, setting fires and exploding any munitions in there...also, the overpressure from the air that’s being sucked behind the projectile provides a great deal of crushing power inside the compartment

Hi Artur, You asked how a dart this size could damage a ship. The short answer -- SPEED. Kinetic Energy = 1/2 x mass x velocity squared. It's the same reason that a rifle bullet the same size as a pistol bullet can do so much more damage. If you could accelerate a grain of sand to a high enough speed, it would do more damage than you would think possible.
