It can be a third of the price of a new tire. When I worked in a tire shop, we used Bandag. They were picky on the casings they chose to cap.

As a veteran trucker, i do NOT approve this message lol! Those semi tires you see on the side of the highways or actually in the middle of the highway are these retreads/recaps. Cheap, but definitely get what you paid for!

We did it this way through the 90s at leshwab Tire in Oregon U.S. it's called a recap and they are for industrial us mostly logging , farming . low speed us

Never put these on the front of a vehicle.

You used to go to a tyre shop and had a choice between a retread and a new (cheap) tyre, if you were short on money, you bought the retread until you saved enough for a new tyre. Unfortunately the prices got closer and closer till it wasn't worth it. The prices of the new tyres weren't coming down though.

That’s right, and you could use your casing and pick the tread you wanted and the local shop would fix it right up, the new tire business ruined the recap market. Recaps were safe unless you drove a hundred miles per hour!

Yeah, but manufacturing processes became updated and better tires were cheaper to produce leading to today's tires. Which if you think about inflation a rethread is more expensive. A tire use to be 31$ in the 70's. 1$ is the 70s is equivalent to 8 today. Go ahead and multiply 8 by 31. A set of 4 tires, would cost you...$992 on the low end. For a sedan 😂

Recaps done right are a good thing. It's the faulty ones that scare me. I had a recap on my semi trailer come completely off while driving. It looked like this video but in reverse.

I understand some people hate this method.. But it works really well. I have used on my car as a spar tire..sometimes I don't change and it lasts for months And looks like the original and much cheaper like 1/3 the original amount.. 👍

It’s called re-treading. A tyre can be re-treaded 1-2 times safely if done on time

Adding another layer changes the original size of the tire.

aunque la banda de rodadura estuviera perfectamente... la rueda no es solo esa parte, también tiene goma en los laterales y puede agrietarse igualmente... quizás hidratando la goma y aplicando calor con algo de presión también... todo puede arreglarse en la vida, aunque la solución puede llegar a ser más difícil que conseguir otra pieza nueva...

I don’t think they use recaps in America anymore. I’m not sure, But I do know you don’t see alligators lying in the road anymore like he used to in the summer(I wonder how many people know what alligators laid in the road in summertime means)

Вообще-то протектор не стоило натягиваться, а потом поправляться. Телретически должен равномерно укладываться ровно без натягивания. Просто ровно уложиться на стыковку! Это редкость, к сожалению они натягиааются и выравниваются на стыковку!!!

Елки палки я изоленту то ровно намотать не могу , а тут такое.😂 Уважуха. Лишь бы резинка ходила. Раньше при СССР были восстановленые колёса ШРЗ . Вотонавливали резину не всегда конечно ходили колёса иногда протектор отслаивался.

Бля ты ещё вспомни когда на лошадках на деревянных колёсах ездили. Тогда резины не было, был огромный дефицит, и машины ездили в среднем 50-60 км в час. А сейчас 21 век и это мало того что извращения так ещё и опасно

Americans used to buy retreads in the 70's. Everyone switched to radial tires. Retreads were cheap, and I never had a bad one. I used retreads snow tires.

Also in the 70's when they made 5$ a hour they could still buy a house and a car in only a few years versus today where you make in excess 50k a year and can't afford jack. Tires back then also only lasted a few thousand miles, not the 30k or 80k like today. So much has changed, and comparably a new tire today is as much as a rethread back in the 70's if you account for inflation.

I once bought retread tires mind you it was for Buick Skyhawk small car i had rubber all over the free way glad i made it home 🤦😄
