Thankyou for watching Adi's Little Shedshop, I am glad to see people agreeing, I still really like the tyre glider as I have dexterity issues and it has been a godsend since Mrs Shedshop found out about it. I have to say tho there are definitely some tyres and more so rims that are not equipped for use with them, which is a shame. Back in the 90's I don't think I can remember a single tyre that I ever had as much trouble with as the amount that are around today.

Thankyou for watching Adi's Little Shedshop, I can't believe "Mr Tyre Glider" has commented on my video, thankyou. I am wholly impressed by your invention to the point, I got another Tyre Glider for Christmas but a red one this time which is hopefully the one for wider rims and carbon wheels. I do have my new wheels to pop new tyres on and am going to do another head to head with the Tire Monkey. Hopefully these won't be as tight as the ones in this video. Keep an eye out for it.

Great real world struggle vid. I bought the Tire Monkey a while back. Just tried it today and it was a fail. Couldn't even get it under the lip of the tire in the first step and I've been changing bike tires for over 40 years. I ended up having to use three tire levers on some Continental Ultra sports. The Shimano rims don't help at all either as putting tires on or off of them is a struggle since they are so tight.

Thankyou for watching Adi's Little Shedshop, I couldn't agree more, it is just a single tyre lever on steroids and not even a very good one. On the other hand tho, the Tyre Glider I haven't been totally stumped on yet, but I do have to replace my Continental Grand Prix's soon on my DuraAce rims and I'm not looking forward to that. Thankyou for taking the time to comment.

You're correct in your conclusion about the rim profile. Many people like to blame the tires. But those rims are horrible. They have no center channel. The center channel is key to making tires easy to get on. Try throwing the tires in the clothes dryer on low for 10min. Warming them up makes them softer and more pliable. Much easier to get on.

I used hot soapy water on tire/rim which does help make tire more supple to remove/install onto or off a rim. Not easy to do on side of the road for emergency repair!

Oh I loved that thankyou, certainly made me laugh, might have to pop a spray bottle in the bag and some washing up liquid. I think the problems all started when tubeless tyres came about because they had to be just a bit tighter but still fit clincher rims. There really is no definitive best way anymore is there, because even tyre levers can damage rims and tyres too depending on the composition of the both. I take a rucksack when I ride now just to carry everything I might need.

I’ve broken one blue tire lever and one tire monkey lever getting a Continental contact plus tire on/off a rim. It took me an hour to change and fix one flat tube. Neither lever seemed to work in removing or installing the tire, there is a tire plier that seems to work “better” in getting these tires on /off but you need help with standard plastic tire levers. 13:14

Hi thankyou for watching Adi's Little Shedshop, I have to say, I have almost broken my tyre glider before, a couple of times but it has held up so far. Not entirely sure how but it has. Now that tire monkey on the other hand what a piece of s#*t, poor copy of the tyre glider and it just doesn't have the same thought into it. I think I know the tyre pliers thing you're talking about where it pinches the tyre from both sides, I've been told to give one a go and I think I will get one and then have a good old tyre lever contest. Continental do seem to make tight fitting tyres tho, but after an hour I'd have probably cut it off and bought a new one.

Use a bit of dish soap thats what i ended up doing the old BMX trick from back in the day on schwalbe big betty the casing are so tight! I have a 27.5 and 29er and damb wouldn't wish this job on anyone who's not used to it! Schwalbe say leave them in the sun for half hour to soften what in the UK 😂 bit dish soap and hairdryer i ended up having to use! Not something you could do at the side of the road so will be swapping these out for maxxis later!

I am in total agreement with leaving tyres out in the sun in the UK, chance would be a fine thing, where do these tyre manufacturers think everyone lives and will only replace a tyre on a sunny day. Not here in Essex I can tell you, oh no, if it needs changing here it's probably a pothole that you didn't see because it was full of rain water. I have been filming today and actually had a total success with both the monkey and glider so keep an eye out for it and thankyou for watching

Well done on this, Adi, they are certainly brutal rims! I’m glad to see someone trying out the Tire Monkey. It looks like they took the idea from Kevin’s hard design work and investment but didn’t add the finesse of the Tyre Glider. If I get a real killer tyre and rim combination, such as a Shwalbe Gatorskin on a Triban RC520 rim, I use a little diluted washing up liquid, or some people recommend talc.

Hi Roy, thankyou for your nice comment, I'm in total agreement with the design of the Tire Monkey, it really does have some similar design elements, but, the Tyre Glider is definitely king in my opinion, total game changer especially for those with dexterity issues.

The schwalbes are a very tight fit and I wonder if this is the by product of tubeless ready tyres? I had a similar expoerience getting tubelss smart sams off a 29 rim. after watching your video I dont think Id buy either lever as Id want something that wouldnt let me down when Im out and about.

Thankyou for watching Adi's Little Shedshop, I have been wondering that myself, but I definitely think you're right. Before tubeless tyres came about, bike tyres were an awful lot easier to take off wheels and replace, now with combi rims it makes it definitely harder to do because they're designed for the tighter fit and I don't think it really matters what you use now. You can always trust in a set of tyre levers tho I agree.

This looks similar to my wheels that came on triban (Decathlon) RC500. The rims seem a little bit too large, shoulders seem too high and the central channel is too narrow for both beads to sit in it. It is a real pain in the a.. to replace the tires

Thankyou for watching Adi's Little Shedshop, I think I have had the same problem on my son's bike with his rims too. You definitely need a deeper and wider central channel in the rim to make these tools work better. I have a new set of wheels to give these another go on and hopefully they will be better, but if not I'll have to get a new set of levers.

Schwalbe tyres are a nightmare to get off mtb rims! My big Betty is an absolute £*#&#&@^## of a thing to get over the edge hopefully this new improved tyre glider works better that ive ordered! Got a larger gap for the rim

OMG mate, but the other side of the tire into the gully and release some of the tension BEFORE you try to take the glider to 90' n- this was painful to watch - use some washing up liquid, too ffs - "it" didn't damage your glider, you did by not using it right...

Thankyou for the critical analysis, I don't mind, I will just say tho I haven't had many problems with the Tyre Glider almost every time used it is an absolute dream to use, but these rims are of a whole other breed, they are almost flat in the centre with no gulley and I had released the tyre bead and squeezed it as close to centre as possible, I have just never had soo much trouble in all my life and I used to work with bikes as a job for years. As far as washing up liquid goes, I must say I have never actually used it in tyre removal, but thankyou for the advice I'm sure I will be revisiting these wheels again soon. Also I have to say keep up the videos especially with the recumbents as there is not anywhere near enough videos on them or velomobiles, the Quest is a beaut.

@@adislittleshedshop Maybe it's a good idea to just swap the rims then, for ones that do have a center channel. As you mentioned and according to their web page they've used as many regular bike parts as possible, and these seem to be indeed normal bike rims. Just bad or very cheap ones. Also with 20mm internal width it seems, and speaking of the rim width, a wider rim would move the side knobs more to the center, so that more of them would touch the ground instead of just dangling in the air. So you'd have more contact area, which could be both beneficial (more grip) and detrimental (more rolling resistance).
