I love the idea of keeping a maintenance log. As my collection expands and the commissioned repair pile continue to grow,it's gotten harder to remember where I am with each typewriter. Thanks!

I use a disc notebook with standard copy paper. The paper, I fold in half then punch the non folded side. This results in a nice thick double sheet insert which hold to the rings better. If you find that the punched holes hang in some of your other typewriters, try using a protective sheet folded over the troubled side.

This is a good idea. Might have to experiment myself - my preference is the A5 leuchterm Peka spring binder. No need to punch holes at all.

Funny! I bought Arc supplies from Staples recently, bc of wanting to do the same thing for my typewriters. I bought Rollabind and Levenger products in the past. I love the versatility of the systems. when Staples runs a sale, you can get those big punches discounted. I plan to also put pictures in my book of my typewriters (ie: the sales ads with the pics from Craigslist and Goodwill for them, close-ups of the serial #'s, etc). Also, I'm excited about Tom Hank's documentary coming out about typewriters! It looks good! This is a great video, Joe....thanks!

Love this idea! I have a suggestion for an episode: painting etc the typewriter. Have you ever done that? I'm bidding on a Royal Mercury and while I do love that this one looks identical to my first ever typewriter (oh the nostalgia!) but I'm tempted ton pretty it up.

Big fan of the Circa/Arc systems (the original was called Rollabind). There used to be a pretty active DIY community for this system. Lots of templates and good ideas out there that you still might be able to find. For lines on a folded letter-size page, maybe you could make a pattern in InDesign or other DTP software and print it on the pages.

Thanks, Paul. I did cut lots of footage during the edit for this video. I'll be making some pre-printed templates for this logbook, along with using heavier (28lb.) laser paper, which punches better and lasts longer.

Cool! I had some down time this morning due to a network outage at work, so I made a logbook template too (2 per landscape page). I was going to send you the file, but you beat me to it! Yes, 28lb paper works the best IMO. I also use cardstock as section dividers. I have a bunch of blog posts on using Rollabind for my freelance writing/editing business on my blog at www.avwrites.com if you ever feel like poking around.

I bought an ARC punch from Staples for $45....which I still consider worth it. Walmart tho now carries its own for $25 and is way easier than using that single punch dookicky..lol

Hello, Nice idea making a journal on your typewriters. Do you actually remember the date of purchase of all your type writers?
